Frazier is a tall man and Austin is big too. Ells and gardy are 5'11" and they look small.

Amazing how Odorizzi became undone in this inning.

That error completely changed his outing. Huge butterfly effect there.

Never undervalue defensive surehandedness, esp. in the infield. It's a pleasure watching Frazier play 3B for that reason.

A beer leaguer should be able to make that play. There are errors, then there are really, really bad errors. That was terrible.

No different than the Sundome. Actually the Rays probably getting better gate receipts here than their.

for a long bullpen appearance (2 innings, sometimes 7-8 outs) instead of a 7-8-9 inning formula. He used Chad Green that way; now he's using DRob that way. They'll do well over the long bullpen appearance, get a day off, and be ready for the following game after the day off
That was really good managing
Kyle in NY : 9/11/2017 10:04 pm : link
by Girardi in the 5th inning there. Went to maybe his top guy for the two biggest ABs of the game. Didn't care what inning it was.

Credit where it's due. Hopefully that's how he handles the playoffs.
Examples
dpinzow : 9/11/2017 10:05 pm : link
9/10: Chad Green pitches 2.1 innings, 1 R allowed
9/4: Chad Green pitches 2.1 innings, nothing across
8/31: David Robertson pitches 2 innings, 1 walk, nothing else across
8/30: Chad Green pitches 2.2 innings, nothing across

Prior to this he tried to give each top reliever a specific inning and they started faltering
All jokes about Girardi (and his BBI "fan" club) aside
mfsd : 9/11/2017 10:09 pm : link
of course he looks smarter now that he's had a reasonably healthy Robertson, Green, Kahnle, Betances, and Chapman to use

But definitely credit where due for going to Robertson early tonight

Chad Green has not pitched on consecutive days since July 22-23. Girardi is giving him enough rest between outings when he needs Green to get 6+ outs

Here are the days Green has pitched since last appearing on
dpinzow : 9/11/2017 10:14 pm : link
consecutive days

September 10: 2.1 innings
September 7: 1.1 innings
September 4: 2.1 innings
August 30: 2.2 innings
August 25: 1 inning
August 23: 1.1 innings
August 18: 1.1 innings
August 14: 2.2 innings
August 9: 1.1 innings
August 4: 2.1 innings
July 30: 2.1 innings
July 27: 1.2 innings
July 23: 2.1 innings
July 22: 1 inning

Girardi tends to give him 2 days between appearances, sometimes 3 days

2 losses really hurt

The walkoff loss in Baltimore last week (Machado GW-HR against Betances)

Chapman giving up a HR to Devers (how in the hell did Devers get around on Chapman, only God knows)

Man it was a great night.
first the game itself-
-as you guys said excellent job by Girardi understanding the most important moment in the game and bringing in DRob in the 5th. Those were the most important outs of the game. If either of those guys goes yard it's a 5-4 game just like Baltimore last week.
-we didn't do much offensively but when the the Rays opened the door we kicked it in like good teams do- Todd Father crushed that one.
-little point bird took BP in one of the last groups so the back must have tightened up after that.
Serious question....
chopperhatch : 9/12/2017 12:51 am : link
Any chance Yanks and CC can come to an agreement on something short term? He seems to like it here, has a great mind for a guy like Monty to access and he is still a quality lefty starter.
Now on Citi Field
Stu11 : 9/12/2017 1:19 am : link
Holy crap. Now don't get me wrong I'd take our past, present and future over the Mets and their fans any day of the week and 10 times on Sunday. But damn that stadium is nice. Much roomier than Yankee Stadium and the just did it right with all the walkways/bridges and food areas. Its hard to explain without going there but its just a great place to watch a game. Of course having lower level seats right by 1st base for $25 was nice.

It was a really interesting experience to be at Citi with so many Yankee fans(Yes before Douchenozzle Hudson asks it Was 99% Yankee fans) I think the ticket guys and security were kind of getting a kick out of it as kind of a change of pace. I haven't gotten a chance to see the Yanks take BP in over 20 years. And thanks to Caleb Smith my daughter got a ball in BP. One thing I gotta give my girl credit he tossed it from about 20 yds and she snagged it from a group of about 5 others. Whether is a softball or baseball, when it goes into her glove it doesn't drop out! If I start up guys don't ever let me bash Caleb again.

Yea I think we'll have to see the way the off season plays out with things like Tanaka opting out what the plan is with Mongomery. I have to say Mongomery for much of the year was solid until they started screwing with his innings and pitch counts so we'll see. Obviously CC is year to year at this point and if they bring him back its something in the 10 mill range probably. Frankly I love the guy and all he has done for us but I'd go in a different direction. I'd be more into bringing a vet in who may not be spectacular but is more reliable for innings. Looking at his last 2 outings he was handed a 6-1 lead (just about coughed it all up in under 6 innings) and a 5-1 lead and couldn't get out of the 5th. That really compromises the pen for tonight's game. We need better than that out of our SP.
What CC would realistically want...
manh george : 9/12/2017 10:20 am : link
has little to do with his current salary. It has more to do with what the market will bear at his age and with his current skills. The other question is whether he will give the Yankees a home town discount from the peak number bid elsewhere, for whatever reason. I suspect he might, especially for the pleasure of being on such a talented young team in a major market.
CC has never given the Yankees a discount
xman : 9/13/2017 12:58 am : link
so I don't hope for one. Present salary makes it hard for a player to swallow a 2/3 salary haircut.

There will be bargain shopping interest in CC . I could see him getting a 2 year 20 million deal. Run the other way and send him a cheese cage
FWIW, CC is a back
section125 : 9/13/2017 6:01 am : link
of the rotation guy now, maybe on some nights with #3 stuff, but realistically a 4 or 5. That knee will not be getting better anytime soon, with 300 lbs pounding on it 90-100 times per game. So there will be missed games because of the knee.
He gives it all he has every time he pitches and obviously does well.
I'd guess he'll get 2 years of #3 money.

So who do the Yanks have next year:
1.) Severino
2.) Gray
3.) Montgomery

** Smith
** Adams
** Green (he was a starter up till this year)
** Mitchell

Possibly:
Tanaka - I think he opts out and rolls the dice
Garcia - (I think they let him go)
CC - I think Cashman wants him back
Otani - Yanks will go for him, but I'd bet he goes Dodgers unless Tanaka stays with Yanks

Who am I missing?

Do you think the Yanks let Betances go and use Green in that 7th/8th inning roll? Cheaper and appears to be less volatile.
DRob still looks stable and reliable.
Kahnle has the stuff but needs to be less sloppy.
Try putting Betances back

MetsAreBack : 9/13/2017 1:40 pm : link
your young ace gets the scare he did in Chicago 11 days ago and you're out of the race... Obviously you shut him down. Not a difficult decision.

Tampa must be using the Mets training staff. Fitting this series is at Citi Field.
Archer is really fighting it
