A: It wasn’t that simple last night. It wasn’t just cover two. There were a variety of coverages being played. There was a form of quarters, there was some sky weak being played, there was two being played as well, but yeah, it’s novice to say that it was just a bunch of cover two yesterday. But they were playing soft and they were playing to keep the ball in front and to make you take completions and move the ball slow and methodically down the field.
is exactly what I've been worried about this offseason and is the reason I've been calling for more emphasis on execution at the expense of fundamentals in practice. The follow-up question that didn't get asked is whether the Cowboys just gave the league the blueprint to how to beat the NYG, and if so, how does McAdoo counter that?
Here's another question:
How is it that Dallas can execute the same gameplan nearly flawlessly given the same limited amount of practice time? What have we missed where we cannot execute consistently and they can? In other words, what they are trying to force us to do is exactly what they are able to do so well.

A: Again, I give Dallas credit. That’s the way they like to play. They like to receive the ball, they like to go on long drives, chew clock and play keep away, essentially. It forces offenses to press and we’ve got to be better than that.
If it works so well for Dallas to chew the clock, move the chains, and play keep away, why is that so toxic for us?
The only thing I can come up with is that we don't coach execution well enough. We may be coaching individual players how to make their individual blocks, but I think we aren't practicing the plays enough to become consistent in all players MAKING those blocks.
Also - I must admit, but Eli is a player who cannot recover from poor blocking up front, where Dak and other more mobile QB's seemingly can.
"It's not that simple" needs to be listened to. Whether we think this player, or that group of players, or the play calling is the problem, we should remember it's a combination of things where one change here or there won't just fix it.
In my opinion it starts up front with the OL, no offense can run efficiently with an inefficient OL. Even on plays where they block well, the qb is feeling rushers that aren't there.
I think the qb has been under too much pressure for too long, and it had taken a toll. Eli's qb clock is off, he's rushing his decision making when there isn't any reason to. I don't think there was a whole lot of confidence in the huddle last night, combine that with the defense not getting Dallas off of the field and as Mac said the offense was pressing.
Getting OBJ back will help, but if Eli and the OL continue to make the same mistakes it won't matter all that much
I mean I get you got beat but the strength of the Coach is on offense . e certainly din't take an ounce of blame with
play calling . What did you do at halftime execute ?
Seemed they decided to spread them out and throw the ball .
Instead of the run run pass fail ...
Some nice insight on Dallas's variety of zones, including playing quarters instead of the Tampa 2 Martenelli rant.
Thing about stunts he must realize: Eli is one of the few quarterbacks in the game that you can utilize stunts with impunity. The lanes that open up don't matter. Even guys like Cousins will pull it down if they see wide swaths of green, especially when they are playing man behind it.
I think McAdoo is going to be alright. I prefer he give the play calling duties to Sullivan but it's his neck in the noose. Going forward, these guys have got to play with a physical emphasis throughout all their units . When you watch the Eagles' defensive front or the Cowboys oline, you say to yourself , "These guys look mean." The Giants need mean players .
I've been saying this for years. Sometimes he should and won't attempt either. QB's with at least a little mobility can keep a drive alive and keep an opposing defense honest. Of course that's why he's survived 200 games too. But there are times.....
The bottomline is the Giants lack speed on offense... Â
They don't have it horizontally from any of the RBs and OBJ is the only WR with vertical speed. This is why they added Engram at the expense of OL in round one, they viewed adding speed to the offense as a more important need. It's also why McCaffrey was probably high on the draft board. But with OBJ out, the only guy on offense with any speed was Engram. And so the Giants became very easy to defend. It's not so hard to keep everything in front of you when you don't have to protect the sidelines and you don't have to protect against the deep ball.
Teams dont have to worry about our QB scrambling. Our QB cant avoid sacks like most QBs do. Thats huge.
How many times would we get pressure on Dak only to have him slip away? We have to use a contained rush to keep him in the pocket - that kills your pass rush right there.
You NEVER need a contained rush vs Eli. Just rush your ass off and hell likely fall down if you get a hand on him.
at this point. He's really lost the little athleticism he had and is a complete statue. Like other posters have pointed out, opposing Ds can simply tee off on the pass rush and have no fear of losing contain. Brady is no sprinter, but he's great in sliding around the pocket when it's breaking down. Eli was great at this as well up to 2011. He looks completely rattled to me and I hope, pray, that this is not it for him.
I'm in the camp that thinks McAdoo ought to let Sullivan or somebody else (even Eli) call the plays because: 1) the play-caller needs time to talk with the offense between series; 2) the play-caller should be studying the photos between series, in order to make in-game adjustments; and 3) McAdoo's track record with the Giants' offense isn't stellar.
But there's a ton of over-reaction here. The most explosive player in the NFL was out. Eli was spooked early. Brandon Marshall, Evan Engram and Eli have had HOW much game time together? (How much practice/timing does it take for Dak to hand Elliot the ball?) At the moment we don't have the personnel for an effective running game.
Best case: we make the playoffs and win a game, maybe even two. Worst case: we finish 8-8 and focus on the O-line in the off-season, aimong to be a top-third offense a year from now.
This year's schedule is a lot tougher than last year's. Â
I don't care how good the defense is, you can't trot the horror show that is our offense out there and expect the team to accomplish anything significant.
OBJ is spectacular enough, and the defense probably is stout enough, to make this an 8 to 9 win team. So Mara will prob just stand pat and not make any changes. The truth is, what else can they do? McAdoo is absolutely clueless, so is Sullivan, it's not like we have some hot shot position coach to pass the baton to.
He says everything that needs to be said right, like it's scripted. It sounds like He doesn't know what to do at this point?! If your going to talk the talk, walk the walk! Make things happen already! Shake this place up, it needs it! Smh.
No surprise here on Sunday night. Dak just had to hand the ball to Elliott. If your team can't get first downs even the '85 Bears would get worn out. Dallas defense bearly broke a sweat, Can't imagine what happens when we meet a real defense like KC, Seattle and Eagles. Watch out!

Eli Apple was. He hurt his ankles - first one, then the other.
