Classic BBI. The OP asks an interesting question and people make fun of them.
I too would like to hear those details...
Then come tell us.
Or baseball like the Browns Depo lol
Majority of GMs come from a scouting background.

+1 - I'd be interested too, look forward to reading what you find.
Majority of GMs come from a scouting background.
Breakdown of backgrounds-
Front Office/ Scout-23
Player- 3
Numbers/ Cap/ Analytics- 3
Family-2
Coach-1
Ozzie had a long background in the front office for the Browns/ Ravens. Elway was a president in the AFL but thats about it. Considering his lack of experience, Elway has done an incredible job.
I would imagine all of these guys played football at some level, but doubt the vast majority ever sniffed an NFL roster.

Elway and Newsome had some front office experience prior to being promoted. They weren't directly thrown into it. Doesn't that impact the analysis some? Lynch is going to be an interesting case study.

I thought Elway served as an executive with DEN prior to being promoted as GM, but it looks like I was wrong. You're right, he has.
