Eli Manning's New York Football Giants 0-1
Tom Brady's New England Patriots 0-1
Russell Wilson's Seattle Seahawks 0-1
Drew Bree's New Orleans Saints 0-1
Andrew Luck's Indianapolis Colts 0-1
Does anyone think these teams are out of playoff running because they sucked big time in the first game of the season?
Are we to assume that these teams are a foregone conclusion to be headed to the Super Bowl because of game one: Buffalo Bills 1-0 or the 1-0 Philadelphia Eagles?
Just trying to keep it in perspective.
Yes, the Giants have issues (poor play calling, poor execution, o-line can be a sieve, ground game sucks, etc), but there's no reason to believe their first game is indicative of how the season will play out. I have faith that the team will turn it around and not come out flat like they did in Dallas. I for one am still hopeful and think the Giants will make us proud this season. There's 15 games to go and we were never going to go 16-0
That's what's so troublesome for me. It really surprises me that Eli did not get more work in the pre-season. You can't expect a QB and his Offense to look ready to go with only a few quarters under their belt.
Not struggling with life - just pointing out that teams with great QBs and high expectations don't always play up to their abilities on some days. Not everyone is panicking, but judging by the harsh criticism by many, there are "fans" who have written this team off and ready to fire McAdoo, put Geno in and take out Eli
You are trying to hard at this point...
There used to be a better class of trolls on this board.
Exactly Tyree, we forget how good the line was with Diehl, Snee, O'Hara, Boothe, and McKenzie. Reese missed on Brewer, Mosley, Gettis, Baas, Schwartz, Herman, and now Jerry, Hart, and Flowers could easily become a fixture on this list by years end. Eli is a statue. He needs a run game and 3 solid seconds of time to pass. We have had neither for all of 2016 and game 1 this year. I think the most telling piece of Reese's ineptitude is that we won our Superbowls with great line play on both sides of the ball and serviceable skill players with a sprinkle of talent (Buress, Nicks, Jacobs, maybe a couple more??). I get the need for better secondary play but we never needed Marshall and we sure as hell didn't need Evan Engram. He seems like he could be a matchup nightmare except it's hard to know if Eli can't create play action fakes or allow him the 3 seconds needed o get up the seam to find out.
Yes, the season is not lost. But this team could not move the ball or score points for the second half of last year, and that trend continued in week 1 which is worrisome. The fact that New England lost to a really good Chiefs team the same week is totally irrelevant.
Ind is going nowhere even with Luck
Pats will win the division
Brees is getting up there in age and in a tough division
Wilson with there defense they will be in most every game Packers with Rodgers caught some breaks IMO
Eli will bounce back if the line does as well and the loss of OBJ exposed this team and its offense .
Saints will be on the outside looking in and they just lost there RT .
We may also be outside looking in if they don't get this offense solved .
.
Bengals
.
My exact thoughts, Also I don't care about any other team I care about the NY Giants. To justify losing a game by saying other playoff teams lost too in nothing more than as excuse for playing really bad football.
Those other teams did not have a revolving door for an O-line either. Did we field 5 O-linemen because it look as if they weren't on the field at times. In fact it was more than a few times. You cant expect anything for any Offense if your QB is playing the game on his back and the RB's are getting hit 2 yds behind the LOS. No QB Or RB can succeed it that type of condition not one
Running the Giants is something none of us do, what a pointless statement. Sports are constantly about stats and being compared to other teams, why would his be any different?
OL play is bad throughout the league. We need to figure something out but do do other teams. And that matters when people suggest trading for OL help because he price goes up with every additional struggling team out there.
It's not a hard concept to grasp and it isn't making excuses, it's pointing out the realty of the NFL.
and dont say it was a different team because during that season people said they hoped the giants lost because they woukd lose in the playoffs
They all have very good D's.
We lost to a reconstructed D and if not for ours our score could have been 31-3.
