Teams in the same boat as the Giants

mavric : 9/12/2017 1:11 pm
Eli Manning's New York Football Giants 0-1
Tom Brady's New England Patriots 0-1
Russell Wilson's Seattle Seahawks 0-1
Drew Bree's New Orleans Saints 0-1
Andrew Luck's Indianapolis Colts 0-1

Does anyone think these teams are out of playoff running because they sucked big time in the first game of the season?

Are we to assume that these teams are a foregone conclusion to be headed to the Super Bowl because of game one: Buffalo Bills 1-0 or the 1-0 Philadelphia Eagles?

Just trying to keep it in perspective.

Yes, the Giants have issues (poor play calling, poor execution, o-line can be a sieve, ground game sucks, etc), but there's no reason to believe their first game is indicative of how the season will play out. I have faith that the team will turn it around and not come out flat like they did in Dallas. I for one am still hopeful and think the Giants will make us proud this season. There's 15 games to go and we were never going to go 16-0

The Colts most certainly are not contending for a playoff spot this year. They're really, really bad. Even when Luck comes back - which could still be a bit - they're likely going to struggle.

Cause we lost the first game. It's the fact that the exact same deficiencies we saw last season that prevented us from going further are still present. Horrendous O-line play, zero running game and little passing offense and less than stellar QB play. Bad play calling too. Same shit we saw last year.

That's what's so troublesome for me. It really surprises me that Eli did not get more work in the pre-season. You can't expect a QB and his Offense to look ready to go with only a few quarters under their belt.

First of all I don't care about therest of those teams.

Secondly the Giants looked so bad offensively. Losing is one thing but losing looking so bad is another.

Not struggling with life - just pointing out that teams with great QBs and high expectations don't always play up to their abilities on some days. Not everyone is panicking, but judging by the harsh criticism by many, there are "fans" who have written this team off and ready to fire McAdoo, put Geno in and take out Eli

Everyone should care about how we got here. 44 yards of offense in the first half. Didn't even make it to Dallas' side of the field until the 3rd quarter and only came away with a FG after 1st and Goal inside the 5. The Defense held up as well as a defense can when it's on the field for almost 60% of the game. I never liked Sullivan as the OC, he was a schmuck in Tampa and McAdoo can't play call and run this team. Not paying for Whitworth over Ellison, Marshall, J.T Thomas (did he even play??) and not drafting an OL until the 6th round is equivalent to betting on 00 on the roulette wheel IMO. Dallas is a middle of the road D and they completely outplayed our O for 58 minutes. The frustration for this team stems from the clear lack of talent in the one place we needed it most surrounded by impressive talent we have almost everywhere else.
One game

Everyone keeps saying don't overreact to 1 game. With the O line and offense as whole, its not just 1 game. Its multiple seasons. What makes you think they will all of sudden become better?
Agreed on Manning
mikeygiants : 9/12/2017 3:04 pm : link
he's never been one to shine in the preseason, but limiting his "pitch count" or whatever may have been misguided.

listen to NFL radio after game days ...EVERY FAN call up complaining that their team has the worst offensive line in the NFL. Texans gave up 10 sacks ..how much of a beating did Russell Wilson take on Sunday and all of last season. Poor o-line play is more of the norm than many of us are willing to accept. The Raiders, Cowboys and Titans are at the top while everyone else is still trying to figure it out.

Exactly Tyree, we forget how good the line was with Diehl, Snee, O'Hara, Boothe, and McKenzie. Reese missed on Brewer, Mosley, Gettis, Baas, Schwartz, Herman, and now Jerry, Hart, and Flowers could easily become a fixture on this list by years end. Eli is a statue. He needs a run game and 3 solid seconds of time to pass. We have had neither for all of 2016 and game 1 this year. I think the most telling piece of Reese's ineptitude is that we won our Superbowls with great line play on both sides of the ball and serviceable skill players with a sprinkle of talent (Buress, Nicks, Jacobs, maybe a couple more??). I get the need for better secondary play but we never needed Marshall and we sure as hell didn't need Evan Engram. He seems like he could be a matchup nightmare except it's hard to know if Eli can't create play action fakes or allow him the 3 seconds needed o get up the seam to find out.
Do you really not understand that people
Mike from Ohio : 9/12/2017 4:35 pm : link
are not upset that we lost the game so much as they are upset that the Giants were not competitive? They are concerned because our offense was overmatched by a defense expected to be below average to bad.

Yes, the season is not lost. But this team could not move the ball or score points for the second half of last year, and that trend continued in week 1 which is worrisome. The fact that New England lost to a really good Chiefs team the same week is totally irrelevant.
Honestly it's just the first game
Bluesbreaker : 9/12/2017 4:57 pm : link
KC is for real .
Ind is going nowhere even with Luck
Pats will win the division
Brees is getting up there in age and in a tough division
Wilson with there defense they will be in most every game Packers with Rodgers caught some breaks IMO
Eli will bounce back if the line does as well and the loss of OBJ exposed this team and its offense .
Saints will be on the outside looking in and they just lost there RT .
We may also be outside looking in if they don't get this offense solved .

My exact thoughts, Also I don't care about any other team I care about the NY Giants. To justify losing a game by saying other playoff teams lost too in nothing more than as excuse for playing really bad football.

Those other teams did not have a revolving door for an O-line either. Did we field 5 O-linemen because it look as if they weren't on the field at times. In fact it was more than a few times. You cant expect anything for any Offense if your QB is playing the game on his back and the RB's are getting hit 2 yds behind the LOS. No QB Or RB can succeed it that type of condition not one

Running the Giants is something none of us do, what a pointless statement. Sports are constantly about stats and being compared to other teams, why would his be any different?
And it isn't an excuse by pointing out
UConn4523 : 9/12/2017 7:54 pm : link
that other teams are in the same boat. Do I win something if I don't point out we aren't the only team struggling. Never understood this whole"excuse" thing when none of us work for the Giants.

OL play is bad throughout the league. We need to figure something out but do do other teams. And that matters when people suggest trading for OL help because he price goes up with every additional struggling team out there.

It's not a hard concept to grasp and it isn't making excuses, it's pointing out the realty of the NFL.
people act like the giants havnt won with a terrible ol
nygiants16 : 9/12/2017 8:03 pm : link
the 2011 oline was god awful with the worst running game in the nfl and a mediocre defense and won a damn superbowl...

and dont say it was a different team because during that season people said they hoped the giants lost because they woukd lose in the playoffs
Which

TB lost to KC...RW lost to GB....DB lost to Minn.
They all have very good D's.
We lost to a reconstructed D and if not for ours our score could have been 31-3.
