Surprised you didn't keep Newhouse. He's looked good at RT for us. He's the weak link on the line... and he gets help from the TE Lee who is a blocker first TE. But he's looked better than any of our other choices so far.

Giants fans usually like to choose a whipping boy on the offensive line - he was it when he was here even though it wasn't totally deserved. He wasn't really good - wasn't awful, either. Sadly, he'd probably be an upgrade right now.
he's trash

He's no better than Hart

Might not be any worse - but we're not exactly pining for the days of Marshall Newhouse.

Remind me when we miss Geoff Schwartz.

Weren't you high on Cam Robinson? He has looked really good locking down LT for the Jags.

Yes, but I also understood the selection of Engram with the pick.
Should have picked Cam

nothing more; and not even a good backup. His last year with the Giants he was rated near the bottom (maybe dead last) of all RTs

It wasn't just the Giants who passed on him, he slipped all the way to the 34th pick. Seattle is every bit as OL-needy as Big Blue and yet they traded down twice rather than select Robinson. They were the team that gave up the 34th pick to Jacksonville. So maybe there is more to it than we know. I just hope it wasn't based solely on the marijuana arrest because that was a non-issue in my mind.

The Giants elected to address their lack of speed on offense with the 1st pick and I don't have a problem with that.
hes crap

He slipped what? 10 spots? Him or Ramczyk should have been the pick. And Irs not that I don't love Engram. He very likely will be a very good to great player.

The bullshit that none of the OL were worth that pick is just that. This team is devoid of depth and talent on the OL. Love hate or Somewhere in between not grabbing any OL early was arrogant and beyond stupid.

They drafted an stud TE and gave him to a guy who can't even design plays for him. Great. Meanwhile The two longest tenured OL are up for contract after this year. Flowers may not be offered a 5th year Leaving Hart and Jerry maybe?

Reese should literally hire someone else to draft and find FA OL and step away from It. It's amazing that they can kill it just about everywhere else on the roster and have so little ability to find linemen.
It's not just Reese though

OL play around the league is down quite a bit. That suggests that the players aren't there, or that teams are avoiding spending premium picks on them. Despite a number of teams that could use his help, Robinson slipped to 34.

It looks like NFL teams have decided that if the talent isn't there overall, maybe they'll focus their picks on other skill positions and just find ways to scheme around a porous OL.
Not Sure Why Posters Quote Other Fans
Jim in Tampa : 9/14/2017 8:26 am : link
I guess a fan for another team can at times provide insight as to how a particular player is doing, but why do we always assume that the fan is an objective, reliable source, just because he watches his team's games?

Imagine for a minute if someone visited our board and chose just one poster's comment about a particular player to post on their team's version of BBI. Would that opinion be a representative one or would it be just another uniformed opinion by a fan?

Throwing up your hands and saying OL play is down is a cop out IMO

Atlanta prioritized it and grabbed Mack and Levitre. They wind up in the SB. Oakland grabbed FA guys.

Reese not only goes after WRs.(Engram is pretty much one) but he ignores the position for years. Then for 3 years grabs one in the the 1st 2nd and first and the pretends it's done. He grabbed Schwartz as a FA. Meanwhile he will pick WRs and DL Over and over til he hits.

You can't plug all your holes ever. And all GMs miss. But Engram and Webb were locks for 2-4 years from now. This is a 9 year in the making issue. David Wilson over Corey Glenn. Sintim over Max Unger. Now Engram and Webb and Tomlinson over every OL. Not one OL
was "worth" a any of the early picks?

Flowers is the best example of what you get if u let the OL fall
Apart. A wasted top 10 pick. If you don't want to draft then be prepared to over pay.

We grabbed Harrison Jenkins and Vernon. Looking back I wonder if the Vernon money wouldn't be better spent on one or two OL. He's a great end and a great guy but it's a thought I have
Also Robinson slipped to 34.
LauderdaleMatty : 9/14/2017 8:53 am : link
Collins slipped to 33. Thinkna few teams would like to redo that draft. Heck he'd have been worth the 9th pick but S Is a less important position. Now a kid like Cam Robinson slips to very early in the 2nd round and people act like he want in the 6th.

And I know it's way to early to even know if he's a good NFL tackle. But we know the best T On the Giants may be a FA that didn't get drafted at this point
We were offered extra picks in the 1st round
Bluesbreaker : 9/14/2017 10:38 am : link
We could have taken Cam Robinson and possibly moved up in the 2nd and took Forrest Lamp instead of taking Webb. You have Kareem Hunt and Donte Foreman sitting there instead of taking Webb and Gallman who didn't even suit up .
There were a couple of decent defensive tackles after the 3rd round and I do't think we would fall apart because Hankins .
Well hindsight means nothing now were gonna find out in a hurry with Detroit .

Newhouse did not allow a QB pressure in 30 pass block snaps against the Titans. They had been experimenting with 2nd year T Vadal Alexander and the two switched off a bit on Sunday... but VA gave up a couple sacks I think... the only two of the game.. I think that "competition" is over and Newhouse will be the clear starter going forward.
The OL must be really bad

if we're pining for Marshall Newhouse!
They let Newhouse go and replaced him with Hart who they knew
Ivan15 : 9/15/2017 2:23 pm : link
wasn't a tackle when they drafted him.

Pugh is probably a better than average guard but was less than average RT. About what you would expect when drafting for versatility.

Flowers may be a complete whiff, but hopefully he is salvageable at another positions.
