I picked up a guitar book on the 1970s group bread. I have played through a couple songs and I have to say I really liked playing their music. Just wondering why I never saw these guys on tour
...I can't speak about their musical proficiency, but I am certainly old enough to say that Bread sang some of the corniest, sugary and stupidest damn songs of my generation! I found their music annoying and grating, and I was hardly alone in that opinion. It was like over-serious, sentimental clap-trap strictly for the AM listening crowd.

lol, word. "I'd Like to Make It with You" is exactly the route you didn't go if you wanted to make it with her in those days.
Hey have you ever tried
Really reaching out for the other side?
I may be climbing on rainbows
But baby, here goes
Dreams are for those who sleep
Life is for us to keep
And if you're wondering what this song is leading to,
I want to make it with you

I hated them. Their songs were so sappy they make you cringe.
I would give everything I own
Give up my life
My heart my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Get the **** outta here. If you gave up your life how can you get her back?
Gman11 - Are you aware that David Gates wrote that song for his father after he passed away? Puts the song in a totally different light and makes it much more meaningful.
I saw Bread in concert at Merriweather Post Pavillion (Columbia Md) in the summer of 1978. Very enjoyable show.
Not the biggest fan, but heard bit of an interview years ago and heard that song was about his father.
After hearing what the song was about, i was in my car shortly after my mom passed away in'85 (while i was in college) and that song came on the radio. I had to pull off the road.

No, it's still more sappy than an IHOP pancake. And, that high pitched voice he does is enough to grate on your nerves.
Love some of his simple progressions.
I would give everything I own
Give up my life
My heart my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Get the fuck outta here. If you gave up your life how can you get her back?
I would give everything I own
Give up my life
My heart my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
I love that song!

When you're a big fan of groups like The Who, Dead and Pink Floyd, Bread doesn't mix well.
