look no further than this matchup and TNF in general. Both teams with legit playoff aspirations and they look as bad as we did last week. The product just fucking sucks.
OL play for both teams is pretty poor. Watson and Dalton are being constantly harassed and hit. The difference is they are mobile. Eli is not. The Texans are of course missing Brown. The Bengals have spent a lot of high draft picks on their OL recently IIRC. Not sure about Houston.
The bad OL play favors short, quick throws. Defenders know this, so they sit on the routes. Watson has almost been picked off twice. Some of that is inexperience. He is holding the ball too long, undoubtedly because he's still understandably confused by NFL coverages and adjusting to the speed of the game. But he's also running for his life on many plays right after the snap.
league-wide poor OL play are spot on.
That won't help us in the draft since we will have to settle for a 2nd or 3rd tier player, unless we go standings BASEMENT ROCKIN' FOR BLOCKIN'.
did on Sunday despite being more mobile. People really need to take a step back and actually look at what's going on. It sucks the Giants are going through it, but it looks more common than many like to admit.
Arc, sorry about the snark. You're right. There's just been this annoying almost absolving of the OL on here because blocking sucks elsewhere. The Giants problems aren't due to a league wide OL crisis. Our OL has been bad for a very long time. Sorry for coming across douchey.
but more pointing out on the 400 OL threads that this isn't a Giants specific problem. None of us can change what's happening, but it's somewhat easier to swallow knowing 2 other playoff hopefully looks as shitty or worse than we do on the OLine. I wish it wasn't this way but it is and we are all going to have to get used to seeing it.
It's cool, man - I get it. I'm as frustrated as anyone. We've got to be better offensively. Sunday night was pathetic.
I just can't remember line play being this poor around the league in all my years watching football. It's terrible.
I watched most of SEA/GB on Sunday and Rodgers/Wilson were running for their lives constantly. It's like you get 2 seconds before a defensive lineman or linebacker gets into the backfield. Sometimes less. And with a zero-mobility QB like Eli, it's a disaster.
We have to find a way to run the football because we're going to be doomed if we don't.
now he grossly overshoots a wide open LaFell. The boos have started. Eli did the same thing on Sunday night. He missed wide open receivers. Is that caused by how many times they've already been hit?
bad OL play limit blitzes? Why blitz when if you can stuff the run and get pressure with just four or five? Drop everyone else back in coverage. Doing so also protects your secondary, who are already at a disadvantage because PI rules so favor receivers.

I think it depends on the team you're playing - there are still times where blitzing will be effective, but if teams can't run the ball against light boxes and still allow pressures against standard fronts, there's not much reason to use anyone in your back 7 as an extra rusher.
is throwing a lot of quick hitting passes and screens to negate the Texans's pass rush. Twenty yard dig routes are out. They are moving the ball, but it's not surprisingly taken them a lot of plays to get to the twenty.
Bengals offensive sure looks a lot like the Giants offense Â
Lewis has to cut the crap with this RB carousel. Let this kid play an entire drive. Stop taking him off the field every 3rd down. It's fine to mix Bernard in on some passing downs but Mixon is without a doubt the most talented back they have. Let him rock for a while. What he's doing is so stupid.
You're not letting any RB get into any sort of rhythm by doing this. And they wonder why they still haven't scored a TD this year.
LOL, that lineman getting leveled to end the game made me laugh pretty hard. I have no idea what the point was of even throwing him the ball. He wasn't going to get anywhere.
worse as the season tracks on with the inevitable fatigue and injuries that come with it. The players hate them. The coaches hate them. It was an awful game . Undoubtedly it will be topped in overall suckiness. Watson's run was spectacular . Show that a thousand times .

So... you drafted Mixon for your fantasy team.
Lamar Miller with his usual 3 yards and a cloud of dust performance. Fantasy football the literal only reason i watched some of that stinkfest last night.
As i've said before, TNF is fine.. but the teams need to be coming off byes. So bizarre they give London teams the next week off on 7 days, but no one says 'hey maybe the teams with 3 days rest should have their bye before this game'. How this league hasnt gone back to the 2 bye weeks per team to satisfy this... and give players the rest that medically we know more now than we did 20 years ago is absolutely necessary... is beyond me.

Definitely agree with the TNF and the byes, 3 days is not enough for these guys to recover and probably leads to more injuries.

I do have Mixon on 1 of 3 teams but didn't start him this week and really don't need to (I have other options) - I just don't understand why a team that has now gone 8 quarters without scoring a touchdown this season keeps forcing this rotation.
Faulk said it himself before the game - RB's generally don't respond well to situations like this. You have to name a starter and he's got to be your guy. That doesn't mean he plays every single snap, but the way Lewis is using these guys is ridiculous. None of them have a chance to get into a rhythm.
Same thing is going on in New Orleans with those 3 RB's. Regardless of how much Adrian Peterson wants to bitch and moan - Payton needs to make either he or Ingram the guy and mix in Kamara.
Side note - Beckham would be getting killed if he said what Green said after the game. And Green is always the guy people want Beckham to be more like.
fantasy. Mixon is an all world athlete and incredible runner. He should be playing basically every snap, except for Gio on a few. Which let's face it...Gio is a cute little back, but c'mon. He takes a wheel route and hops over a defender every once in awhile. What else does he do?
Give it to Mixon and let him run the fucking ball 20+ times per game and see what happens. Vikings and Jags are doing that with their guys, and look at the results.
draft a dynamic playmaking WR at #9 in the draft, and he fumbles, and then they BENCH him. No wonder this team can never get anywhere. It starts with the coach, and he is perfectly OK with mediocrity. Which is why they have 17 running backs.

Well, i drafted Ross... he's hurt. They werent sure he'd play on thursday night. So not sure what the "benching" was all about - i do know Ross has barely practiced in a month.
People need to watch other NFL games - these QB's are under constant pressure just like ours is.

it goes to the fact, that offensive linemen at lower levels college etc aren't being developed anymore...its a passing games these days.

Cool. We haven't scored 20 points in 7 games.

Wasn't my point - thanks for the snarky response, though!

WOW. Watson with a great run for a TD. About 50 yards. Bad tackling, but that was impressive.
You're not letting any RB get into any sort of rhythm by doing this. And they wonder why they still haven't scored a TD this year.
He's just a rookie. He is running what they tell him too.
Huh?
One of the best DEnds vs the best RT in the league. It would be a great matchup.
Nope.
Almost

Question does that last play count as a catch for aj green
Nope.
I take that back - it looks like he was credited with a catch for 3 yards on that last play.
