Left Tackle ... he's 32 with 10 years in the league but still generally regarded as Houston's best OL yet he sitting out in a contract dispute. Houston desperately needs a TE. Any thoughts ?
with a maybe a few late rounders or a player might work.
Duane is an awesome person off the field, as I know him personally. Would love to see it happen.
I don't think its likely to happen, but it would definitely be good. You could put Flowers at RT, and then probably move Hart to guard, as they were trying to do this with him earlier in his career.
Can make it better. But what are you giving up to rent a guy for a year or two? If they stink on Monday then we seriously need to explore other options. But I am giving them one more game to figure it out.
I'm all for trying to trade for some O line help. Problem is he wants a new contract. So even if you can trade for him, your going to have to pay up to ink him to a new deal. So your essentially signing a restricted free agent.
Should have just paid up for Whitworth. He was worth it....
Um yea it does. Let's say brown comes in you can shift flowers to right tackle kick hart inside to right guard and your line looks a whole lot better. You can slide protection to the right and help hart and flowers. It would change our line dramatically. Please don't just comment to have words appear on the screen
The right side of the line should have been addressed in
the offseason and it wasn't. Too late now. Its likely not happening. Its simply not how the Giants operate.
I love this team but if there is one thing about them that has always bothered the hell out of me, its that they have a tendency to rest on their laurels with certain positions.
You've got an aging QB hitting the down-slope of his career whose window is closing. Your defense is primed and championship-ready. You have the best wideout in the game. The tight end position is finally solid.
And you go into the season with a line that for the most part - has failed for the past 2 seasons.
They should have made a trade or found some wiggle-room financially to bring in a good veteran, even on a quick fix 2 year deal. The time is now. But instead, they decided to roll with what they have and *hope* that Marshall and Engram can cancel out the OL woes. Doesn't work that way. Never has, never will.
I agree with you 100% which is why I think we have 1 or 2 weeks left to do a deal like this and have a better outlook for this season. If I'm JR I call the Texans and see what it would take ... I'd be fine with Jerrel Adams plus a 3rd rounder for Brown.
necessarily agree with how Reese handled the OL in the offseason, but trading away premium picks for aging veterans
or signing big contracts to aging veterans is just not the way he goes about his business, and I'm sure there's a reason for it.
Look, he's done it before, and it completely backfired. Baas, Schwartz. So maybe that's why he's hesitant. I don't know. But he just doesn't do it, and he's confident in the guys we have, as much as that sucks to say.

couldn't agree more...when your plan for the O-line is ti cross your fingers and HOPE that this line improves then face it, you DON'T have a plan...

.
I wouldn't mind that deal, based on JR's track record with
3rd Rd. picks here. To say they have been bad in that round
is an understatement! I do think Brown's play has slipped a bit though.
trade for a decent O-lineman. I just don't see it happening, JR and the crew will continue to say the same thing they always say...... it isnt just the offensive line, they are making progress, Blah, blah, blah and so on.
Where Eli leaves at the end of his deal which is next year. He is roughly 20 Million of the cap and OBJs new contract would take the spot of that 20 Million with Webb (or a Rookie) taking over at QB at that time.
So we have a 2 year window to win with Eli at helm including this season. Make the deal, give Eli some protection now.
