The new Foo album released late last night. Been listening this morning.
Early in the process, but many solid efforts.
They "pre" released 3 tracks, and I loved 2 and liked 1. Now getting things in the context of the entire album, sounds really good. Makes a difference.
Make It Right
Run
Arrows
La Dee Da
Dirty Water
Sunday Rain
Good stuff.
I know there are a lot of music snobs on BBI who will pan anything because it's "not like they used to do." Suck it.
First couple of albums aside, to me all Foo Fighter songs sound like they came off the same album.
Don't get me wrong - love the Foo Fighter's, but they've 'evolved' about as much as AC-DC did.
And I will give credit where it is due, Grohl tries really hard - he tried the epic acoustic/electric treatment, tried the collaborative effort - as you pointed out, did an analog 'garage' album, even tried touring multiple studios in a variety of locations to spice it up - in that effort, Grohl remarking "We still haven't created our 'Stairway to Heaven"... a dragon the Foo's have chased and will chase seemingly for the duration.
Some birds just can't change their colors - the Foo Fighters took something wonderful from Nirvana, made it their own and have become really, THE stadium power-pop-rock band of a generation - they have a fantastic dimension to their material, they have turned into a great live act - but make no mistake about it - they are locked in that dimension for good.

to blasting this on my commute home today...have always loved their sound. Perfect example of a band who stayed true to their roots but evolved over time.
Evolved?

blah blah blah lol
For me, hard to top my No. 1 - Pink Floyd (even without Roger) in the Carrier Dome, 1987.

agree to disagree...Wasting Light in 2011 was incredible. That was recorded on analog in Grohl's garage in CA. Completely different sound than what they had been putting out.
"Nothing Left to Lose" offered a wide palate of sounds, the production pushed the envelope in several intriguing directions and had me very optimistic for the future of the band.

I was going to post my Foo Fighters thoughts on this thread. But seeing yours, I no longer need to.
I'm hoping this album to be a step up from Sonic.
