We have to ass-ume, that OBj does not play.....
I really think the Giant staff was not prepared for OBj not playing in Dallas.....they ass-umed it would be a game time decision in Dallas....
Even if OBj feels comfortable running routes, what about jumping? What about that first hit to the ankle?
I don't want this guy out there chancing further injury, until he is absolutely sure of himself.....
So what can the Giants do?
What is truly disturbing, is the lack of chemistry between Eli and Marshall.....They did not have many reps in preseason games, and practices during the week just don't cut it.....anyone think the timing and the anticipation of moves between Eli and Marshall are suddenly going to come to light this week? When you have good communication with a receiver, a qb can anticipate when that receiver will make his break, in a defensive situation(if the DB is left or right of the route, behind/in front or tight on the route) and throw the ball in anticipation of how his receiver is going to react to the DB......Eli and Marshall have none of that.....how the hell is that possible after OTA's, and preseason?.....right now Marshall looks like a guy who joined the club 24 hours before the first game......
I remember when Ocho joined the Patriots, and the media was all Lady Gaga on what a combination he and Brady would be....it never freakin' happened....Brady and Ocho never had that connection.....
Say what you like, but the Ocho/Marshall comparison, both wr's at the end of their careers, playing with a new qb, look scary similar......yes it is only one game......but if Marshall does not do a complete 180 this Monday, this offense is in deep trouble.....
Pass patterns by our receivers have to change.....we needed 3 completions to get a first down in one series.....too many times our receivers stop and catch passes....that's ok if you are past the first down marker.....unfortunately, they are not....
And how many times do we see receptions on third down that don't result in first downs?
Gee, maybe instead of a 5 yard route, how about an 8 yard one?
And we have to stop being afraid to go long.....we throw so many short passes, those DB's are anticipating them, and because they are short, the DB's are bunched together, and more often than not, it is not the primary defender that makes the tackle, it's someone who has left his man because Eli is staring down the primary receiver...
We expected too much from Double E.....but you are not using his assets running a 3-5 yard pattern across the field.....send this guy up the seams....
From my observation of the last game, Vereen looks a step slower this year(as well as Mr. DRC)....
Does SS ever go long? Anyone covering him, knows he doesn't, and is one of the reasons there is not much separation from defenders......they don't worry about his speed....
There is not one bruising RB in the bunch....none are fast....they basically head for where the hole is suppose to be....if it's there, you get a run like Darkwa had....if it's not, you get a run from Darkwa that nets one yard...
So what does Mac and Sullivan do?
First, they have to accept the fact that OBj does not play, and plan accordingly....if he does it's a plus....
Their only hope is to get more creative, in their play calling.....and they have to start benching guys that are not producing......
To lose this game, and then go into Philly, who could be crazy confident if 2-0, or have a burr under their saddle at 1-1, will be a nightmare....to be 0-3, and 0-2 in the division, may be something we can't recover from....
So to me, this is a MUST game....
The first win is the toughest to get. We all remember 2013.
while they would have time to recover, another dreadful performance would be very hard to overcome. i know what they did in 2007, but (way) more often than not, an 0-2 start is the beginning of the end.
I have no idea and I don't know why that would even matter. Reality is that week 2 is never a must win.
Between 1990 and 2015(14 sesaons)-24 teams started 0-2 and made the playoffs.
The first win is the toughest to get. We all remember 2013.
a MUST win. A team has never gone 0-2 and won the Super Bowl. EVER!! It is do-or-die this Monday.
Monday I'll be watching and enjoying as they honor the 2007 Giants... who went 0-2, had to face Washington in Week 3 and it took a last second tackle to save that win. Oh and they won the Super Bowl that year.....
It's not a must win
Depends on how we lose. If our offense, with OBJ, looks like it did in week 1, I wouldn't bet on it. Even if we lose in week 2, week 3 isn't a must win. It's certainly a, need to win, but not a must win.
...but it sorta is.
If you know what I mean.
Just go back to 2013 for a lesson on this.
High expectations. Tough loss in Dallas because of the turnovers. They lose at home to Denver. Offensive line we didn't realize just how bad it was.
0-2 going to Carolina (who was also 0-2 and rumors of their coach getting fired) and the expectation was because we were desperate and they had neither of their CB's playing. Perfect day to reignite the offense right? We would get through and win and right the ship.
The result? 7 sacks allowed. 38-0 the final. It finally hit us that the offense sucked and nothing could be done to fix it. The defense was surprisingly good and keeping us in games, but we couldn't move the ball or score for s*it.
This year...because we know how the Giants have performed in Philly the last 3 years (specifically the o-line), the specter of 0-3 is very real and threatens to derail the season by the end of the month if they don't win Monday.
After getting completely dominated in game one, they have to beat a mediocre Lions team at home.
Very different from 0-2 start in 2007 when they gave the Cowboys all they could handle before losing a shoot out, and then played relatively even against Packers before giving the game away. Also that Packers team went 13-3. Lions are nowhere near that good.

won the SB?
But that Giant team averaged 24 points a game that year, the same in it's first two losses...this team hasn't seen 20 points in it's last 7 games....
we can easily wind up 0-4

0-2 and then facing Philly on their home opener with our o-line? Yikes!

0-2 heading into Philly with our o-line? No big deal!
But I m not feeling confident. Indon t expect Beckham to play. And I m wondering why I should expect the ioffense to be better.
I ve been hearing too many comments from people I respect, like Carl Banks and Bob Papa, that are suggesting perhaps there needs to be more flexibility from the coaching staff in regard to getting away from their own philosophies
This is disconcerting as I have have seen no indication, over a good period of time, that this coaching staff has the answers in how to fix this offense.
Playoffs? Don't talk about-Playoffs!? You kidding me? Playoffs?
It's not a must win, those start if the Giants lose 6 games at some point in the season. But a loss is going to really feel crappy after the expectations we had.
My sense is that they will find a way to win this game.
Agree completely.
So, maybe it is a must win game.
