DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket - Update

Stan in LA : 9/15/2017 4:31 pm
Was going to post on the other thread but it's been archived. Called today and just told them the truth. NFL ticket is too expensive, I have offers from Dish Network and I've been watching more and more streaming via Roku.

Their 1st offer was FREE ST, 10 off my bill for 12 months PLUS free Sports Pack.

Not being greedy, I took it.

Note: I've had ST free for the last 4 years, but I've been a customer for 17 years so there's that. Last year they gave me a hard time to get it for free even when I talked to the retention supervisor, so I scheduled a disconnect per Mook's advice and then got it free with the added discounts and the $200 Visa card.

I've lurked for the past 10 years

and I can honestly say that this post is the best and most informative post you've ever written.

when I called and got a deal.

Cancel ST right after the season. That way you get the best deal come Aug.

That's correct. But you must cancel before the season starts because once you are charged there are no refunds. I actually cancelled in July this year.

but you can get ST now without a DirectTV contract for ~50/month (25 w/ .edu email address.) on just about any streaming player.

Sorry, its for apartments that can't get access. I did it with the edu address so I didn't try to sign up normally. I guess with the student address you can sign up from anywhere.
I've tried this for years

and never got it free, just a couple bucks off a month. By the way, is anyone incredibly annoyed that the shortcuts is still internet only? I used to record them and watched them at my leisure mon-sat. Now I have 3 days to cram them in using their crappy app

That's $69.99 per month for 4 month, or $280.
Did you threaten to cancel Directv

...so that you were transferred to a 'save specialist'?

Yes, and it was not a bluff. As explained above, the ST is too expensive and it has been the only reason to carry Direct TV at all. In fact, if they had offered $99 for the year I would have taken it. But their 1st offer was the one above and it was an offer I couldn't refuse.

When you call just tell the auto operator you want to cancel service and you will be transferred to retention and then just ask what they can do for you.
You don't need a .edu email
KentGraham : 9/16/2017 1:50 pm : link
All you need is to know the name and birthdate of an active student. I have been doing this for three years, found some random person on Facebook who made their university and birthdate public, entered that on the site and then registered with my personal email. Hasn't been an issue yet.
