NFT: Question: Selling on e-bay to a buyer outside the US

Ten Ton Hammer : 9/15/2017 5:22 pm
Anybody have any experience in this area? Were there any problems in receiving payment? Went through paypal and everything seems to be okay. I have a buyer in Colombia for an old PC video card. Are there any special hoops to jump through? Figured I'd ship USPS Priority Mail International.
Payment's not the issue

Proof of delivery is - make sure you get delivery confirmation.
Just be careful...

Tried selling an Samsung Galaxy on Ebay last year and every winning bid was someone trying to scam me. Had to go to craigslist.

I don't sell very often, so this is my concern as well. Paypal seems reliable though. I'm being told just to wait until the payment completely clears, which is fine with me.
Let eBay handle it via their Global Shipping Program

claim they never received it. Hopefully you listed it as-is, and you get some delivery confirmation in case they try to pull a fast one.

Upon first glance, it doesn't seem that delivery confirmation is even available for priority mail to Colombia. When it's time to ship, I'll have to go in person to the post office.
I sold an iPhone a few years back to some guy in Georgia, the state.

It was to some obscure address, but UPS found it. Well anyway, he sent in a complaint that he didn't receive any accessories, even though I stated that they weren't included. I trying working it out with the guy, but he said he wanted to return it to me and wanted a full refund. Just because I didn't include a charger. I felt it was very fishy and I talked to someone from eBay and plead my case. They ended up siding with me, which I was surprised at. I knew if they sided with him, I wouldn't be getting back what I sold to him.
Seems like a really bad idea

I only ever sell in the US on eBay

Especially computer equipment. I learned this after I sold something a very long time ago - iPaq or Palm type long ago. Maybe things are better now but I still don't bother with anyone out of the US.

This has always worked well for me. As long as you get it to the US shipping center okay, you're pretty safe. Out of the ~10 items I've sent that way, one of the buyers (in Japan) claimed they never got it. I don't know if they were trying to work the system or the package legitimately didn't make it all the way to them, but it didn't matter to me because eBay automatically took care of it since it arrived at the US center just fine.

I think it only protects against loss or damage, though. I suppose the buyer could still claim that it was the wrong item or not as described or something.
