NFT: Boxing vs UFC tonight

B in ALB : 9/16/2017 8:42 pm
So what's the consensus here tonight folks? Are you paying for the big Canelo/GGG fight? Or are you sticking with the free UFC event on FS1?

Not to mention college football going on right now.

But late-night - what are you watching BBI?

Is the boxing match worth the money?

are doing two TVs, one with the UFC and one with the boxing. Got the grill and some beers going, should be a fun night of fights.

Nice!

Well done sir!
Didn't realize there was a UFC event.
Cam in MO : 9/16/2017 9:03 pm : link
Probably because I don't follow UFC...

Super excited about this fight- best matchup of "name" fighters in years- plus I love that damned ginger.

Not paying for it, tho. Looking for a stream- so if anyone has a good one, please share.

Neither

Is that the thing where the guys wear panties and flex muscles? Sounds pretty cool I guess.
I would like to watch the fight
feelflows : 9/16/2017 9:40 pm : link
What time is the main event. I'm in China, but have the day off. I am hoping that a bar has the fight. Maybe the Hard Rock.
Diaz/Rivera starting soon.
Giants_ROK : 9/16/2017 9:48 pm : link
12 rounds.

Watching on SBS Sports in Korea. No charge!

Kinda kills the middle of the day, though.

118-110 for Canelo?
Jints in Carolina : 9/17/2017 12:01 am : link
Are you fucking kidding me?
What a disgrace
Walt in MD : 9/17/2017 12:01 am : link
Whatever momentum boxing had from the may weather fight is long gone. Horrible
I had it 116-113 for GGG
BlackLight : 9/17/2017 12:02 am : link
7 rounds to 4 with 1 even.

what a fucking joke
Jints in Carolina : 9/17/2017 12:02 am : link
disgraceful
Boxing is so rigged
Dave in PA : 9/17/2017 12:03 am : link
GGG kicked his ass from round 4 on and Alvarez was dead on his feet in round 12. What a joke
I pretty much scored it the same way the HBO judge did
Jints in Carolina : 9/17/2017 12:04 am : link
GGG was ahead for me 8-2 going into the final 2 rounds. Canelo needed a KO to win.
Adalaide Byrd scores it 118-110 for Canelo
j_rud : 9/17/2017 12:05 am : link
What fight was she watching?!?!? What a fucking disgrace
I gave 1-2
BlackLight : 9/17/2017 12:06 am : link
to Alvarez, 3-4 to GGG, 5 to Alvarez, 6-9 to GGG, 10 was even, then they split the last 2.
What a load of horseshit
Motley Two : 9/17/2017 12:06 am : link
Hats of to Canelo & GGG, anybody who just watched that would love to watch them do 12 more, to force a draw with a bullshit 118 for Canelo is absolute Shit. GGG doesn't deserve that in his record.
reposting
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 9/17/2017 12:08 am : link
Boxing is bullshit. That is all. I'm done with it.

Any judge who scored that fight 118-110 for either guy should never judge anything again except De La Hoya's women's underwear line.
Oddly enough
BlackLight : 9/17/2017 12:08 am : link
118-110 for Alvarez argues against the scoring being rigged. If you go in intending to score the fight for Alvarez no matter what, you don't score it 10 rounds to 2 when you know it's closer than that.
Either Canelo is a dick
bradshaw44 : 9/17/2017 12:09 am : link
Or his translator, who said all of two words after each Kellerman question, was feeding Canello lies. I was surprised by him insulting his supposed friend.
I gave it 7-5 to GGG
dpinzow : 9/17/2017 12:09 am : link
Canelo won 2-3 and 10-12. GGG won the rest. If you had Canelo winning 1 also then that is a draw

While I see the logic, even reaching and trying to give Canelo as many rounds as possible, GGG still had him 7 to 5. 118 is insane. I don't think anybody would have honesty had GGG at a 118, but Canelo? Madness!

Ironic that the British feed had Amir Khan on pre-fight
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 9/17/2017 12:17 am : link
and Khan said GGG would have to KO Alvarez because if it was anywhere close, GGG would not get the decision in Vegas.
I had 7 to 5 Alvarez.
Cam in MO : 9/17/2017 12:18 am : link
GGG came forward but wasn't landing shit aside from his jab. Canelo was slipping almost everything and landing hard counters. All you need to do is look at their faces to tell who landed more hard shots.

This is a fight that's hard to score, though. I can see rounds going to GGG based purely on him being the aggressor and out jabbing Canelo.

Either way it was an awesome fight. GGG has a hell of a chin- walked through some hellacious shots- of course we're not saying that about Alvarez because he didn't get hit with any huge shots- certainly not even close to as many as GGG did.

115-113 GGG on my card
PetesHereNow : 9/17/2017 12:18 am : link
Adelaide Byrd is crazy. 118-110 Canelo? Was she watching a tape of Canelo vs JC jr?

Strongly disagree GGG didn't land hard shots. He's the naturally bigger man and he hurt Canelo pretty regularly through the middle rounds. GGG sits down on his shots and beats him in rematch.
Alvarez

Backed up all night and never hurt GGG. This was a bad one.

Never affected him IMO.

So you missed the one where GGG hit him in the ear and Canelo went sideways and then shook his head to say i'm not hurt before cowering?

Heard the same thing a few times this week from pundits. Canelo is gonna have his day and he's positioned nicely for the next half decade, but this shit is shady.
Teddy Atlas

Going nuts on ESPN about corruption.
Ridiculous. One guy has it 10 rounds to 2 for ...
Crispino : 9/17/2017 12:36 am : link
Canelo, another with GGG winning it fairly close, and remarkably, one draw card. What a crock of shit. Crooked sport ruins a good fight with a phony result.
Adelaide Byrd's scorecard is on Twitter
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 9/17/2017 12:37 am : link
She gave Canelo the first 3 rounds, but then also from round EIGHT on was all Canelo, which again is insane.

Put her on ESPN. Let her commentate how she scored punch by punch of 8-12. If those are all Canelo rounds, I am Eli Manning.
One circumstantial piece of evidence for the scoring being rigged
BlackLight : 9/17/2017 12:44 am : link
is the idea that McGregor/Mayweather 3 weeks ago took away a chunk of the probable audience for this fight, so they needed to make a case for a rematch before the first fight even began.

The argument against it being rigged is that even with a decision for GGG, there still would've been a rematch. It was a close fight. Now you've got Teddy Atlas saying corruption in boxing and pointing the finger at De La Hoya.
Also Canelo is hugely popular within the Mexican American population
PetesHereNow : 9/17/2017 12:50 am : link
I can sell Canelo fighting a broomstick in Vegas for 200 bucks a seat. Unless I miss my guess, May 5, 2018 for the rematch.

Oh certainly - if there's such a thing in boxing as a credible, properly executed fix, this wasn't it.

But I still think the 118-110 scorecard was so bad, it better makes the case for crummy judging rather than corrupt judging.
Golovkin was very gracious
j_rud : 9/17/2017 12:55 am : link
Canelo came off as defensive and maybe even a little childish. And now Canelo releases a statement: "I was superior inside the ring, I won at least 7 or 8 rounds". I guess he's in a tough situation, he's gonna defend himself. Only thing tougher than being booed like that would be getting robbed and your unblemished record taken from you.

showed incredible toughness, heart and fought their way through extremely dangerous situations. They both earned a rematch on the merits of their fighting.
That scorecard might as well be Janet's titty. Shame it'll end up being what's remembered.
