I've watched pretty much every game the Giants have played for the last decade, save maybe 2-3. If they put out another stinker like the last one (and pretty much every game from the season prior), I'm going to start skipping them. At this point, the games are less fun to watch than pretty much anything else I could do on a Sunday.
RE: The Giants are favored by 3, were favored by 5....
I try to remember that the 2007 that is being honored tonight were 0-2, losing their home opener to GB and allowing 80 points in the first 2 games.
Things can change quickly in the NFL. If the Giants lose tonight their season is not over. If the Giants win tonight they are not guaranteed anything even though they will be tied for 1st place in the NFC East.
I just hope the play calling will give this offense a chance. A running game will cure many things.
Injuries creeping in + Monday night football + Important home game honoring past greatness = Not usually good for NYG football.
I just hope this defense comes to play, because even if the O improves, it's probably going to be gradual week to week until Beckham is fully healthy and the O-line is serviceable.
If nothing else, to quiet the doubters. Would like to see Eli go out and have a nice game. Offense to be productive, even if OBJ is not 100%, his presence should help. Defense needs to step up and show that they are truly a Top 5 unit that their talent says they should be.
Settle down. Offense will be clearly be more productive than last week
I don't care how ugly. 2 fucking 0. I don't care. Just win. Win and get this season going in the right direction. The offense doesn't need to be championship quality right now. The team doesn't need to be championship quality right now but the team needs to find ways to win. I can forgive week 1 at Dallas. Tough spot. Tough game. Things got ugly. It happens to the best of em.
Win the damn game tonight by any means possible. I'd like to think this D has a dominant effort in them but they need to prove it.
...John Jerry get fooled once again and double team a guy with Bobby Hart while a LB loops inside into the space vacated by Jerry?
And will the Ereck Flowers ship tilt too far to port allowing Ziggy Ansah to rip underneath him for a direct shot on Eli?
And will Weston Richburg get blown backwards into Eli's face?
A "yes" to two of these and we won't win.
A "yes" to three of these and it's the Lions in a route.
This is just flat out false and annoying. The Giants can win this game even if the OL doesn't play very well. They won plenty of games last year when the offense didn't play well. They were in the game last week despite the O playing terribly.
You guys obsess over this shit every day. Every fricking post...it's so tiring. We get it...the OL bothers you. Find something new to say just once.
McAdoo himself has gone out of his way to blame the ENTIRE offense. I am not saying the OL is sound and secure unit but it's not the source of all the problems on offense no matter how many times you spout the same crap over and over again.
The RBs on this team need to make plays when they are there to be made. The QB, yes, THE QB, needs to hit a fucking WR in stride when the play is there to be made, especially against a quality team. You only get so many chances early in a game. Miss those chances and things get ugly.
Why would McAdoo single out other players on this offense? He's not saying this shit for his health or to instill confidence in the OL. He's blasting the RBs because they don't make plays! Never! There have been creases --there have been holes. The RB gets 3-4-5 yards on a play that could have gotten 15-20.
Make a fucking play tonight when it's there. Just once. ONE! They haven't in years. Fact.
watch some of these RBs run around like they are lit on fire. Breaking not one, not two but three tackles on ONE run. Watch Lynch run. Then tell me our RBs aren't the problem. Perkins runs like he's playing football in the backyard with his family. Run like your life depends on it! Like your job is going to be stolen from the backup!
Break a fucking tackle! ONCE!!!
My ass it's not the RBs. They are the most uninspiring group of RBs this team has had since 1980. The best RB is Vereen and he can't take more than 10 shots a game or his body will likely explode into 100 pieces.
Remember when the Giants running game sucked and then they traded for Rob Carpenter? Was the OL shitty then too?
Prove me wrong tonight. I want to see a broken tackle or two.
RE: Got to love the people complaining aboit winning ugly
I am just praying he shuts me up and puts a quality product on the field. I have a bad feeling the DET front 4 will look like the 85 Bears and we'll have to completely shut down Stafford & Co. which is unfair.
Good post to a fellow Giants fan. The difference in quality from the DEN to ours is stark across the board. Their backs run tougher, their line blocks harder, their WRs make tough catches and YAC and their QB is accurate and moves the chains. They have a very good WCO with McCoy.
We need a complete talent overhaul on O, similar to the D. Luckily we have Odell and Engram as starting points.
I've lost all faith in Ben McAdoo.

You've lost faith in a guy who went 11-5 because we lost on the road in the opener?
Do you people ever employ any fucking logic in life?
I think our defense is too good for a team like Detroit to ever blow us out, but any other outcome is on the table. Win close, win big, lose close.... if I was a betting man I really wouldn't touch this one. Give us a slight edge because we are home and have the best unit on the field for either team (Giants defense), but I have little feel for this one. It's a big one though because next week will be a tough one to get, especially on a short week.
should be ball control. The Giants NEED to open up the passing game by running the ball!!!!!! Commit to the run !!! Do what ever it takes 3 TE's Fullback just pound the rock and earn some respect!!! They have a championship D just control the game keep the Lions off the field.
I fully expect a better showing tonight. 1-1 hopefully.
1.30AM kick off, can deal with TNF and SNF as its either friday the next day or it just extends the weekend, but MNF is brutal for an English fan. Still, tuesday won't be a struggle if we win
Good post. When you have an immobile quarterback behind a poor offensive line coupled in with that we do not have an NFL caliber starting running back is a recipe for disaster. Running back should be a pretty easy position to fill. Reese seemingly has picked the wrong guys lately.
could handle a normal tackle around the legs without worrying about this injury occurring again.
To be honest, I don't give a shit if he plays or not because that doesn't change the bottom line with this offense. They need to play a helluva lot better, even if he's not out there. The coach, the QB, and the OL all share the responsibility of last week's (and beyond) disaster. They all need to step up as professionals and as men. If someone is getting knocked on his ass again, he needs to get benched immediately.
A win is a win and that's obviously the most important thing, but 17-7 isn't going to cut it tonight. I'm not saying they need a blowout, but they need the kind of offensive performance they haven't produced in a long time. I expect them to win because they were much better at home than on the road last year, but it needs to be of a quality that relieves some well-deserved pressure on the parties I listed above.
...respond to adversity, so they may have a chance. The media has been brutal this week regarding the offens. If they have an ounce of pride at all, they should at least be competitive.
the OL doesn't play better we will lose. I expect Detroit to start in some type of cover 2 shell to see if they can get pressure with just four or five. Everybody should. Their DL isn't that good, but the same was true of Dallas. To counteract any pressure we may see more planned bootlegs and rollouts from Eli.
There should be some opportunities in the middle of the field. Worried about the Lions DL. Ansah, Ngata, and Robinson are no joke. Better than the Dallas front 4.
There have been a handful of games where I went in with
...John Jerry get fooled once again and double team a guy with Bobby Hart while a LB loops inside into the space vacated by Jerry?
And will the Ereck Flowers ship tilt too far to port allowing Ziggy Ansah to rip underneath him for a direct shot on Eli?

Your words: "They were in the game last week despite the O playing terribly."
I don't think you'll find much agreement here. Giants were steam-rolled by half time, and the 19-0 score felt more like a 56-0 beat down.
And one more thing... even great running backs don't do so well behind lousy O-lines. And another problem is that the Head Coach doesn't call for many run plays, or Eli is audibling out of them. Looks like zero commitment to the run game by this team.
You'd think it should be the other way, especially with an O-line that gets turned inside out on so many passing plays.
We've got a good chance if the defense performs to last year's standards. Carson Palmer threw 10 picks last week and yet the game was within reach until a late Stafford explosion that likely wouldn't have occurred against a D like the Giants fielded last year.
As many have pointed out, it's pretty difficult to string consecutive seasons with dominant defenses. Hopefully we'll be capable.
we had about the same talent on the OL and less talent at RB, WR, and TE. Yet, we moved the ball and scored and Eli had 2 of his best seasons. We successfully, used the pass to set up just enough of the running game to keep defenses honest. We had a well oiled passing game making excellent use of the intermediate passing game, as well as well designed slants, ins, and outs. Now, we have either a 2 yard pattern or a deep/slow developing pattern that has little chance of success, with very little else being called.

Maybe the rest of the NFL caught up to McAdoo... and he hasn't made any adjustments!
The offensive line is deteriorating by the hour. Eli has no rapport with Marshall. The running backs are mediocre. And of course, no Beckham. The Lions are a competitive team. 9-7 last year, a productive offense, with a quarterback (Stafford) who's better than Eli. I am not hopeful at all. If I'm wrong, I'll be more than happy to fess up to not knowing much about pro football.

Exactly how to lose.
Handcuff your offense. Put your weakness (OL, running game) against the Lions strength (front 7) when you are on offense. Then blame the offense for not making plays. Dink and dunk so we need 10-12 mistake free plays to score. Try to get to manageable third downs? How about not getting to third down on every series? How about making some plays downfield. Hitting receivers in stride. Getting the RBs in space with screens and dump offs, draws.
Put pressure on the defense to be perfect vs a decent offense.Play it close and conservative so one turnover or ST mistake can lose the game.
this is exactly the kind of fucked-up view that has me shaking my head this week!

I mean, it isn't like we played the 9-7 Lions juggernaut last year and beat them or held them to 6 points, right? How is their 9-7 more impressive than our 11-5 if we are basing it off of last year?
The OL is deteriorating by the hour? Really. No rapport with Marshall? Based on one game?
This board is really filling up with a bunch of reactionary idiots who regale us with the above insights.
Under what logic are the Lions "competitive", but we are dogshit, nevermind the historical performance of that team on the road.
someone posted a gif of a perkins run to the left. There was deent blocking to the inside but Flowers was one on one to the outside with a CB, and he obliterates his guy. But rather than keeping going to the outside and trust that Flowers is going to demolish a CB, he cuts it inside for a 2-3 yard gain. If he follows Flowers, it's 15-20.

Ok then, but I distinctly remember many on here saying Perkins had the best vision of any RB in the draft.
That's why everything is BS until you hit the field and start playing for real.

Football is won and lost up front. The Giants suck up front on offense, so it's going to be a struggle all year unless A) the OL gets better, and/or B) they get more creative on offense. It's that simple. It doesn't matter what shiny new toys you have at receiver or RB if the OL can't get the job done.
Everyone slobs over EE's ability, how'd he do yesterday when Denver destroyed them up front?
Um. The Giants are still the 11-5 team from last year.

Looks as if B.J. Goodson will not play. LB Curtis Grant this afternoon will be signed off practice squad. Grant eligible to play tonight.
Play that of the same formation on something like 95% of a plays difficulty or didn't try to establish the Run and Defenses also adjusted from the previous year's success by playing two safeties high or the Tampa 2 defense because the Giants couldn't run they dare the Giants to pass and they couldn't unless the broke the big play.
My previous comment was simple you got to run the ball to succeed I'm not saying running all the time I'm saying establish it get them out of two safeties back make them play you honest then the play-action will work obviously.
We brought in a supposedly a great blocking tight end plus drafted a tight end that is a great past receiver but is supposed to be an adequate blocker and we have four tight ends on the roster and a fullback. we should be able to run at least for 3.5 yards a carry. Everything else should open up if we can just establish the Run. And with a great defense you win those close games you want to keep the other team's high-powered offense off the field thAts how we won a few Super Bowls

on 3 complete seasons + this 1 game. And his entire employment life before the Giants too. Thanks for asking.
Three complete seasons? 2015, McAdoo as OC, team scored 24 or more points in 11 games, Eli had one of his best years, 35 TDs, 93.6 rating, more than 4,400 yards. Recall, the D stunk? Recall D couldn't hold a lead? Recall losing to the Saints 52-49?

I've seen numerous plays like that one. Perkins is terrible right now. He's thinking when he should be running hard. Running hard when he should be waiting on the play. He's young and he wasn't terrible last year but he needs to start running like an NFL starter and soon.
I'll be disappointed if Gallman isn't active tonight. IF nothing else his presence could light a fire under Perk.

I don't have a great feeling about this game whatsoever.
Unless McAdoo had a brain transplant this week, he likely will continue to use his inverted version of Belichick's strategy of continuing to use the same attack unti it STOPS working. McAdoo's version? Continue using the same approach until it BEGINS working, no matter how bad things get, and if it works, STOP. If the offense scores some points, go conservative and try to run out the last 30 minutes of the game. If no points, blame it on player execution, not on yourself for not having a good (or any) game plan, good (not overly complex) play design, or good play-calling. Our two-time Super Bowl winning QB will get jittery and sack himself, throw too high, too hard, or too inaccurately to keep the offense on the field. The past two 'meaningless' preseasons and the ensuing regular seasons reveal an ineffective and ugly offense.
The mighty Cowboys defense that throttled McAdoo's dynamic West Coast 'offense' yielded only 5-6 TDs to the Broncos' super offense. Based on the above, Lions 35, Giants 9. We will triple our offensive output, throw at least two INTs, and Or defense will get exhausted for playing a full game before the half.
We still need a couple of weeks before the Defense scores the first TD, followed by one or two offensive TDs.

Holy pessimism Batman! Dallas's vaunted O scored about as many points against Denver's elite defense as they did against us. Unless we suddenly gift the Lions excellent field position or turnovers for TD 3 times, I do not see that offense scoring 35 points. Our D is capable of holding offenses under 20 points, now our O just needs to get more than 20!

You are right, Mike. Short of a one-week turnaround, I don't see the offense scoring 2 TDs. As revised, Lions, 19-9. I hope I am wrong, but the Giants offense is soooo anemic that it's difficult to enjoy watching them.

They will run the exact same game plan they ran against us last December when we only scored 17 points.
I bet the Lions are figuring that they can do that again, they will figure out a way to win based on the amount of possessions they will get because the Giants offense won't consistently possess the ball.
We have all the reasons to come out flying and win. Monday night, first home game, coming off an embarrassing loss on national TV, and we're playing a team we just beat 5 games ago.
We should come out flying and roll. If we do we can just write-off the Dallas game and move forward. If we don't then its going to be a long season.
our poor record on national tv and/or halftime celebration(commemorative) games, along with our poor OL play, I am not optimistic about tonight.
Just sit, watch, and hope....like every other game.
This is probably going to be an ugly, embarrassing loss.
The sad part is it doesn't have to be that way. If they did the same old, same old, this week in practice- we are fucked. If they tried to address these issues, make a few tweaks, maybe we have a slim chance. One thing is for certain......we lose tonight this season is over.
I heard espn radio commentator predict lions will win
The question is about scheme and style not about players. Predictable and reactive will result in a loss. Assertive and dictating tempo on both sides with some wrinkles/changes and we win going away.
Changes?
- use two tight ends more, chip with them, and be diverse with the play calls when formations that way - this should be a weapon
- more quick hitting run game to avoid negative plays.
- get back to "throwing the guys open"- a strength of Eli especially when we have special skill players.(stop fade type routes)
- take shots downfield- create time by chipping and pushing tempo- snapping below 5 seconds on play clock is a recipe for ol disaster
- let our own de's get loose to the qb instead of the passive protect the run pass rush
- let Landon loose
I wonder what shoes Odell is wearing for pregame warmups?

Ohh my lord. Stafford better than Eli. When will it stop?
Guy is 0-3 in the playoffs. My god.
Giants declared CB Janoris Jenkins, MLB B.J. Goodson, QB Davis Webb, RB Wayne Gallman, LB Keenan Robinson, TE Matt LaCosse, and DE Avery Moss inactive for Week 2 against the Lions.
Take the snap under the center and roll out to one side or the other?
Defeat the twists and stunts?
You mentioned this above I believe. While it might make sense to move Eli to avoid pressure from stunts, it also eliminates protections for the receivers. The moment the QB leaves the tackle box, then the defensive backs can make contact with the receivers as long as the ball is not thrown in the air (Pass interference still applies). A smart and ruthless tactic would be to light up the receivers the moment a QB leaves the tackle box. A receiver's success at catching the ball lying on the ground is diminished rather than letting them run unimpeded through the secondary. A perfect example (I think it was last year, but it might have been the year before) is when Sherman from Seattle obliterated a receiver in the endzone when the opposing QB scrambled outside of the tackle box. Fans decried the act as unnecessary but it was within the rules.
Ohh my lord. Stafford better than Eli. When will it stop?
Guy is 0-3 in the playoffs. My god.
It's very debatable whether Eli is better than Stafford at this point in their respective careers but regarding the playoffs, you make it sound like QBs always win and lose games by themselves. They don't.
no Jenkins either .. Just need to run the ball keep the defense fresh . Eli has to be able to get through his reads
and get the ball down field for a change .

I think Stafford is underrated. In some ways he reminds me of Eli. He may be in for a beating tonight though. I expect the D line to dominate.
...John Jerry get fooled once again and double team a guy with Bobby Hart while a LB loops inside into the space vacated by Jerry?
And will the Ereck Flowers ship tilt too far to port allowing Ziggy Ansah to rip underneath him for a direct shot on Eli?
And will Weston Richburg get blown backwards into Eli's face?
A "yes" to two of these and we won't win.
A "yes" to three of these and it's the Lions in a route.
Giants offense looks better, Eli has some time and running game actually gives some balance
Giants D holds Detroit's big plays, but the game goes to the wire
Giants win 24-17, all NFC East teams are 1-1, BBI gets too optimistic about remainder of season
I think the energy level begins with Eli!!!
Things can change quickly in the NFL. If the Giants lose tonight their season is not over. If the Giants win tonight they are not guaranteed anything even though they will be tied for 1st place in the NFC East.
I just hope the play calling will give this offense a chance. A running game will cure many things.

Haha. Then we'll get the pleasure of McAdoo's boilerplate "everyone is to blame" presser.
I think the defense shows up in a big way, & the offense will again be lackluster. OBJ plays, and gets in the endzone.
GIANTS 17
LIONS 7
Jackrabbit would be a tremendous loss. Total game changer.
Win the damn game tonight by any means possible. I'd like to think this D has a dominant effort in them but they need to prove it.

There have been creases --there have been holes. The RB gets 3-4-5 yards on a play that could have gotten 15-20.
Make a fucking play tonight when it's there. Just once. ONE! They haven't in years. Fact.
Lions win 17-13
people saying if they play ugly they are going to stop watching, dear lord
Break a fucking tackle! ONCE!!!
My ass it's not the RBs. They are the most uninspiring group of RBs this team has had since 1980. The best RB is Vereen and he can't take more than 10 shots a game or his body will likely explode into 100 pieces.
Remember when the Giants running game sucked and then they traded for Rob Carpenter? Was the OL shitty then too?
Prove me wrong tonight. I want to see a broken tackle or two.
people saying if they play ugly they are going to stop watching, dear lord
People have short memories when it comes to sports.
I think the offense needs to show something so that they can build some confidence. A win by the defense and this team will be just treading water.
I am struck by how well the offense played against the Jets when the OC was calling the plays. I think that Reese may need to intercede on that.
We need a complete talent overhaul on O, similar to the D. Luckily we have Odell and Engram as starting points.

I am just praying he shuts me up and puts a quality product on the field. I have a bad feeling the DET front 4 will look like the 85 Bears and we'll have to completely shut down Stafford & Co. which is unfair.
You've lost faith in a guy who went 11-5 because we lost on the road in the opener?
Do you people ever employ any fucking logic in life?
Giants win 17-10
GO BIG BLUE!!!!
I expect them to win because they were much better at home than on the road last year, but it needs to be of a quality that relieves some well-deserved pressure on the parties I listed above.
no running game is going to hinder anything positive happening.
some people are in denial here i still see.
Unfortunately for me, this is one of them. I have zero confidence in the offense to do anything right now.

...John Jerry get fooled once again and double team a guy with Bobby Hart while a LB loops inside into the space vacated by Jerry?
You'd think it should be the other way, especially with an O-line that gets turned inside out on so many passing plays.
no running game is going to hinder anything positive happening.
some people are in denial here i still see.
Precisely!
As many have pointed out, it's pretty difficult to string consecutive seasons with dominant defenses. Hopefully we'll be capable.
Maybe the rest of the NFL caught up to McAdoo... and he hasn't made any adjustments!
If D comes to play and the OL does squat again and he refused to admit they are a issue that spells a even bigger issue ...
Yes Eli takes some heat as well but the issue is starting upfront.

Worse case for us would be Stafford having the ball at the end of the game and we're up by less than three.
I'd expect the flow of the game to be completely different tonight, esp being at home.

They aren't going to play like shit every week.
They're winning tonight. Bank on it.

Looks as if B.J. Goodson will not play. LB Curtis Grant this afternoon will be signed off practice squad. Grant eligible to play tonight.

Yes.
Kind of hope he shuts u up too...
Remember...once we got that one, the offense really opened up and led to all of our scoring in Week 1.
They aren't going to play like shit every week.

They have a much improved defense and a downright ugly offense. I would NEVER bank on the Giants playing well.

I would hammer the under 41 total in the Sportsbook tonight.

We should come out flying and roll. If we do we can just write-off the Dallas game and move forward. If we don't then its going to be a long season.
Just sit, watch, and hope....like every other game.
@bigblueview
Odell Beckham just came out. McAdoo and Reese out here to watch him test his ankle.
Watching @OBJ_3 right now, he put a ton of equal pressure on both ankles at roughly 85 percent speed without limitation.
@OBJ_3 jumps into Eli Manning's warmups with the WRs, catches slant after putting foot in ground and going full speed. Leaning 80-20 yes.
Based on what I've seen so far, with my untrained medical eye: I think @OBJ_3 plays and @JjenkzLockdown sits tonight.
@KimJonesSports
Odell stopped, I asked if he's playing: "You know what time it is!" #nyg
Defeat the twists and stunts?
Ohh my lord. Stafford better than Eli. When will it stop?
Guy is 0-3 in the playoffs. My god.
Giants declared CB Janoris Jenkins, MLB B.J. Goodson, QB Davis Webb, RB Wayne Gallman, LB Keenan Robinson, TE Matt LaCosse, and DE Avery Moss inactive for Week 2 against the Lions.
good thing is you still have drc, most likely play a lot of nickel, maybe big nickel with collins in the box
Washed up.
Guy is 0-3 in the playoffs. My god.
It's very debatable whether Eli is better than Stafford at this point in their respective careers but regarding the playoffs, you make it sound like QBs always win and lose games by themselves. They don't.
and get the ball down field for a change .
Riddick and Abdullah against Munson in the middle? Lord have mercy

I think Stafford is underrated. In some ways he reminds me of Eli. He may be in for a beating tonight though. I expect the D line to dominate.
