Classic Francesa rant and he has a point.. You're really trying to ice a kicker while you're up 56-0.. common....
Killing callers left and right who are defending this bush league move. The Penn State coach said he called a timeout to get the block team in there. Mike is not buying it!
I'll post a link if I find it. Here is a link to an article about the incident.
Penn State's James Franklin iced Georgia State kicker to preserve 56-0 shutout - (
New Window )
The reaction to the miss leads one to conclude they really wanted to keep the shut out and its lame as hell
After Franklin's remark last week about Pitt being like Akron.
Up 56-0 you care if your backup field goal block unit is not lined up correctly? Really? I know football coaches are compulsive types but if you can't figure out what to do at 56-0.
Second, even Glen Mason, former Univ of MN coach who was broadcasting the game agreed with Franklin. He felt the GA State coach probably should have taken a knee, as most would have suspected. He admitted he'd also have called the TO seeing that GA State was kicking a meaningless FG.
But I guess there's gotta be a weekly bitch at PSU thread. Carry on.

You'd think they would bend over backwards not to be asswipes.
Oh wait - probably could have used different phrasing there....
Oh please. They wanted the shutout and would have a lot less grief coming their way if they just admitted it, IMO.
Up 56-0 why would a team even care who they had on the field for the FG? Were they going to try and block it? Just make sure you have eleven guys out there and let the play go on.
First, why exactly did James Franklin call a timeout to seemingly ice Georgia State’s kicker with a 56-0 lead and just 11 seconds left? According to the head coach, that wasn’t why.
The reason?
“Really that had nothing to do with it,” he said. “We had our fourth-team on the field, and we don’t have a fourth-team field goal block.
“They didn’t really know how to get lined up, so we called timeout to get the second-team field goal team in there.”

Why? Maybe because he's a gung ho, classless A-Hole who wanted the shutout.
Again, who the hell cares what you have on the field or how they're lined up at 56-0? Answer.... A classless A-Hole.

Only people who played NCAA football can comment on it? Okay then.
