I am really hating McAdoo lately. If you want your players to take ownership over their play then it all starts at the top. McAdoo has to take responsibility. All he does is point fingers at everybody but himself and the OL. He is not Belichick. He is not Parcells. He has no goodwll. He has to earn that right. This act is gonna wear thin and ruin this season.
Now, the delay of game penalty. Lets start off by saying that kicking the FG is the smart play. You needed 2 scores at that point. We don't get many opportunities so you cannot afford to waste that drive by coming away with no points. With that said, they did a horrible job with the cameras. The announcers said that they were going to kick it. Then there was silence because they didn't know what was going on. Then, much later, they were like, "Oh, they are going for it." It sounded like a late change in decision. I don't think this has been brought up at all. Was this on McAdoo for being indecisive? I just don't get how this has him so infuriated when there are many other things I would point to over this. Delay of games are totally avoidable but even if Manning were to get the play off do you really want him rushing the play on 4th down?
Have I mentioned how much McAdoo is pissing me off?
Good point, maybe he did
Definitely not a fan of going for it there, but don't believe that one for a second.
If all the mistakes last night, that one was at the bottom of the list.
Granted, I was seeing red at the time, but I wondered the same thing when it happened.
And I agree with the post above that the failure/refusal to call a timeout after the 3rd down stop at the end of the 1st half was infuriating.
I've been a staunch defender of McAdoo on here, but for the first time, I can at least begin to see the possibility of this season unraveling.
But Mac - what about not giving Flowers any help?
What about not calling a TO at the end of the first quarter?
He's really good at dishing out blame but really needs to look at his performance.
I really hope that is the case because as much as Ben should take so much of the blame...no way your veteran QB should get a delay penalty with a gigantic play clock just 15 yards in front of him.
That's what I thought too. Kicking the ball there was the right call to get within one score. McAdoo succumbed to pressure from the crowd. Haha
Quote:
100% Manning took that delay of game on purpose. He's making up for the coach's stupidity.
Good point, maybe he did
I wish he would've but it was too close for comfort, meaning if Manning intended to get a DoG penalty he would've waited an additional second.
BUT
I couldnt help but feel the penalty saved them from themselves in the moment. I think kicking the FG would have been the right call there with a functioning offense, let alone the one we have been watching for 2 weeks. I had zero confidence they convert for a TD there.
