Receiver routs

PhilD : 9/19/2017 7:21 am
It is 4th down and We need 3 yards and the receiver runs 2 yards. To many times the receiver goes less that the first down and tries to make up the difference by run after catch.

The teams we play ,the receivers go past the first down marker and make the catch. This is coaching.
It's been one of my pet peeves

for the last three years with this offense....

In the first game, we needed 3 completions to get one first down.....

Last night, we had a completion on 3rd down and on 4th down, and still did not get a first down.....how do you blame Eli for that? He barely has time to look for receivers, never mind know if they are passed the first down marker...we are one of the worse teams for yards after the catch, because we run patterns that are close to the LOS.....this means that if our receiver is not immediately tackled by the cover guy, another defender that is not deep either can break off his man to make the tackle....how much separation are you going to get on a short pass, if you are not a quick guy?

To run these patterns you need speed....Marshall lumbers out there.....SS is not that quick, and also a disappointment this year....Double E is a rookie....that was a first down play where he made a poor attempt at a badly thrown ball....it's first down....knock it down....don't give the other team an opportunity.....he has to learn from that mistake....you have to be a defender if you can't make the catch, in that situation....Vereen just looks slow....Ellison looks like a slug.....OBj was not 100%.....

So where is the speed to run short patterns to get open with a bunched up secondary of 7 and sometimes 8 defenders?

If you constantly get tackled after a reception with no YAC, why do we continue to throw passes on third down short of the first down marker?

Why Mr. McAdoo? Why?
I may have missed them BUT

Why have I not seen Marshall run his patented slant route? That was his bread and butter play, perfect for this offense, but we have not se n much of it.
