... I've pretty much had it with unnecessary jargon that adds nothing (e.g. protect the Duke), but "complimentary football"?
I know that if Marshall catches a certain pass, the team will do better and it will percolate down to affect actual things, the attitude of the team, time of possession, etc. I know that if you kick the kickoff out of bounds, we have bad field position, and that is a reality.
But I think saying that a play on offense compliments a play on defense is just stupid, and asking a player to play complimentary football is just wrong. The players on defense don't care if the offense is naked as long as they score points and take time off the clock.
I think our coach is inventing explanations and solutions when the issue is a very basic lack of preparation.
or
"Holy shit Brandon Marshall, it was incredible how you dropped that pass when you were wide open. That forced a punt and the punt team failed and it changed the game. Great work!"
complementary football, BS or not, means each unit doing their job and it has an impact on each other, like specials helping turn the tables with field position or the offense not giving the ball right back after the defense forces a TO.
sorry/ rant off....
