PFF Grades are in! Wanna guess who was our worst player?

Bramton1 : 9/19/2017 9:12 am
I'll give you one guess, although I doubt you'll need more than 1.

Quote:
Top 5 Grades

G John Jerry, 80.1 overall grade

CB Ross Cockrell, 80.0 overall grade

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, 78.3 overall grade

DI Dalvin Tomlinson, 77.3 overall grade

DI Damon Harrison, 77.1 overall grade

Performances of Note:

QB Eli Manning, 74.0 overall
While Manning was far from spectacular in this game, he was hardly the problem for the offense. He actually pushed the ball downfield fairly effectively, going 2 of 6 with 56 yards and a touchdown on passes that went 20 yards or more down field. And that doesn’t include a perfect deep ball thrown to WR Brandon Marshall that was dropped, and another that would’ve been a touchdown if not for an incredible play by Lions CB Darius Slay.

T Ereck Flowers, 47.3 overall
This is more an indictment on the Giants offensive line in general, which once again struggled. They allowed their quarterback to be sacked five times (though one of them was more Manning’s fault for holding the ball too long), before adjusting protection schemes to give help with tight ends and running backs. They struggled more in the run game, where they surrendered stop after stop. Taking away Vereen’s two end-of-half runs against prevent defense, the Giants running backs gained 40 yards on 14 carries, and averaged just 0.76 yards before contact per carry.

CB Ross Cockrell, 80.0 overall grade
Cockrell was called in to duty as he was filling in for injured CB Janoris Jenkins. He played well in Jenkins absence, as he recorded a coverage grade of 82.0, allowing only two catches on five targets for 18 yards. Cockrell limited Lions rookie Kenny Golladay to one reception on three targets for 8 yards when covering him.

EDGE Olivier Vernon, 75.7 overall grade
Vernon had a strong night rushing the passer, and when he rushing against Lions LT Greg Robinson, he forced five quarterback hurries and two holding penalties. Vernon’s pass-rush productivity of 15.0 puts him just behind Deatrich Wise for fifth place among 4-3 defensive ends in Week 2. However, Vernon will look contribute more against the run in the coming weeks, as he ended with a run defense grade of 45.6.
that's a generous grade for DRC

do CBs not get dinged for whiffing on tackles?
Tomlinson has gone largely unnoticed in all of this

He's been very good. I thought for sure losing Hankins was going to hurt, but thus far he's been a very capable replacement.

He made a lot of tackles as well

Ross Cockrell missed a few tackles himself and if not for Thompson coming in slightly at the end, gets beat for a deep pass to I believe Marvin Jones.
Any system grading John Jerry as top player

Partial credit goes to Flowers. Easy to look good when the QB is sacked in <1.5 secs repeatedly.

DRC was all over the place making plays including attacking the line...
COCKRELL!!!!!!!!!!!
NYG007 : 9/19/2017 10:01 am : link
He dove head down and missed a simple 1 yard run that turned into a 30 yard run. Come on, that grade is a joke

He missed a couple of tackles. Don't know what they were watching.

1. Tomlinson is great. He was at the top of my wish list in round 2
2. Hankins is beyond overrated and hasn't had a "great season" in 2 years.

I didn't reach last the Jerry part ... what a joke. Shame "metrics" can't throw a run block ... he did get in the way of a defender occasionally though, so progress
Ross Cockrell is clearly an upgrade in coverage over previous guys in
shockeyisthebest8056 : 9/19/2017 11:35 am : link
his role, but my goodness... his run support was probably the worst I've seen from a Giants corner in quite some time. It looked like preseason DRC/regular season Jayron Hosley.
Cocksucker
SHO'NUFF : 9/19/2017 12:14 pm : link
couldn't even seal the edge on what should've been a 1 yard run, at the most.
Cockrell, another great Reese move.
Dave in Hoboken : 9/19/2017 12:16 pm : link
And look at that Flowers grade, LOL. Man, he is garbage. Worst pick in along, long time.
Cockrell was very good in coverage, despite his run defense failings.

Remember the previous occupants of that role... Trevin Wade, Jayron Hosley, etc.
