you never would have known anything happened, they kept talking about some other nonsense while the refs kept moving the ball up, first to the 50 then to giants 45. Just part of the total meltdown.
when did they start tacking penalty yards on after the following play? Didn't they make the Giants kickoff from further back? Isn't that why the ball went out of bounds? I can't go back to look, because I deleted the mess from my dvr already,
the rule is the ball gets placed 25 yards from where it was kicked, not at the 40 yard line. The Engram penalty resulted in them kicking from the 20 instead of the 35.

The broadcast was awful. Routinely showed wide angles or promos at the snap, never explained the Engram penalty, kept claiming Apple was a backup only playing significant time due to Jenkins injury, etc.

A few years ago they started giving teams the option of taking the penalty yardage on the XPA or on the KO. Obviously every team is going to choose the latter.

They've been doing that on XPs and punts/KOs for awhile.
Initially it threw me but it made sense, it would have gone to the 40 if normally kicked OOB, but tack on 15 yards for the taunting penalty and you end up at our 45.
the penalty marked off before the kickoff rather than after ?
It was. They kicked from the 20 yard line. The penalty when the ball goes OOB is relative to where it was kicked from. It's not automatically placed at the 40. Otherwise, this would arguably be a smart play be Rosas.
But engram looked so cool grabbing his balls after his first rd.
The rule isn't that a kick off out of bounds goes to the 40 yard line. The rule is that it goes to a spot 25 yards from where it was kicked. Since most kickoffs happen from the 35 yard line, the other team's 40 is just where the math puts it.
However on that play last night, there was a penalty imposed on the kick off. We kicked off from our own 20, meaning that when it went out of bounds, the 25 yard walk off put the ball on the 45

Thanks. Didn't realize the KO was from the 20

Thank you for clearing that up for me.
