Lot of talk but I think one of the biggest culprits to ol failures is this guy. he has had a couple of years to mold this ol and it's worse than when it started. I think when head start rolling it starts here.
They had in 15. When the offense was pretty good. The only difference is TC and Flaherty. The offense has regressed since then despite adding more talent. McAdoo just hasn't had any one to answer to, and it shows. It's coaching folks.
This whole problem is Reese's fault. McAdoo-Solari have to work with what they are given.
The only thing this collection of linemen has is versatility. That's what Reese told us when they were drafted or signed. McAdoo has not explored that versatility. It should have been done in training camp but it isn't too late to salvage the season.
Pugh to LT and Jerry to RT or get a RT somewhere. Maybe Jones to center. Whoever is left standing battle for the guard spots.
Everyone on the OL not named Pugh has seemed to regress. They can't pick up a stunt if the DL told them it was coming. Not saying he's the problem or even most of the problem, but he's at least part of it.
this group could improve is at fault? Then to not even create competition for spots...well, that is on the GM. A coach can only coach the players he is given. The assumption that this group would improve was made by the GM and the offensive coaching staff. They were dead wrong...as bad a miscalculation as I have ever seen.
The status quo cannot be maintained...I have to imagine there are major meetings going on today deciding who to move around and what to do...if not working out some OL vets.
But the bottom line for acquisition of players belongs to the GM and his record is very bad. The clock is ticking on ole Jerry and unless this is fixed...I am now convinced this will be his last year as GM. The only way to fix this is to move people around and hope a miracle happens as it did with Baltimore in 2013 when they faced same issues.
Moreover, if nothing is done and the same group plays Sunday and we lose and the offense does not perform, I think the vets will revolt.
Solari, while continuing the lack luster development of Offensive lineman, hasn't really earned a firing. If the staff goes, that is a different story.
Steve Spagnuolo after 2015. That defense was wretched.
Then, you gave him better players in 2016 and miraculously they had a good defense.
It's not rocket science. Get better players, you get better performance. These coaches are all basically the same, especially position coaches. They aren't reinventing the wheel. But you can't always make lemonade with the lemons this team seems to have.
these problems predate him. Any attempt to make him the scapegoat will look weak and have no credibility.
You are correct except with FLowers...shouldn't he have been able to help flowers develop?
No. This is specifically on Flowers.
He "clashed" with Flaherty and that led to his ouster and Solari coming in.
Two years into this, he still hasn't progressed. The same problems he had as a rookie are the same he is doing now. This leads me to believe the problem is more on the player than anyone else.
But instead, most fans will blame the coaches for not "developing" them.
Flowers is a sunk cost. He is just another in a nice little list growing of linemen in the last 5 years who were drafted high in the first round that have become busts.

Ha ha, this is always what I think of too when I hear his name.
Of course he gets a lot of blame. He could have changed out Flowers 10 times by now and didn't, along with other moves. No one is safe anymore IMO.

Carl Banks called him a "coach killer", surely someone needs to take the fall for this abomination.
