He was in my mind a very good gunner last year. We just cut King and he didn't get a jersey last year a good portion of the time as Lewis showed his worth on punt coverage.
I think the PR touchdown was on him. He was the outside guy, he didn't maintain his leverage and the return was able to take it outside. This took Harris completely out of the coverage and for the most part DeOssie. One of the bigger plays of the game and that play in combination with the Marshall drop was the nail in the coffin.
From poor route running, bad off the field decisions, etc., Lewis appears to be a dumb player. Dumb players usually lose games. This was one example of dumb players making dumb plays.
Defense makes big play ... Eli makes terrible throw leading to tipped INT on literally the next play - that's when I knew this game was over.
Eli is done, this OL is embarrassing, and yes the special teams suck too
I honestly don't even want to watch next week ... Cox is going to break Eli in half
But it became magnified after the Marshall drop....
Funny how that works.
Check out the replay of the TD and freeze as Lewis approaches the 20 yard line. Then go frame by frame. He has a clear shot at a returner who is preparing to make a catch but he is not preparing to make a tackle. He crosses from his right gunner position to a spot three yards left of the returner to avoid contact with a returner who has not signaled for a fair catch.
Just last week we saw Lewis stand dumbfounded when the Cowboy punt returner returned the ball rather than make a fair catch.
Lewis's plan A is to down the ball if it hits the turf. His plan B is to stand and watch a fair catch. He has absolutely no interest in tackling.
For this (and the occasional dink and dunk reception) Lewis is gifted a roster spot. NYG compromised its principles to sign him in the first place and is getting what it deserves for stubbornly refusing to admit that it did so for nothing.
