NFT: Where are the Penn ST. Frat haters over LSU and Colgate

The 12th Man : 9/19/2017 2:28 pm
LSU Frat Chapter pledge dies last week over hazing.
All Greek activities were suspended at Louisiana State University on Thursday after a freshman pledge died in what is being investigated as a hazing incident.

The school announced that freshman Maxwell Gruver, 18, from Roswell, Georgia, died Thursday morning in what LSU media relations director Ernie Ballard termed a "potential hazing incident" at the Phi Delta Theta chapter on campus.

LSU President F. King Alexander announced late Thursday that all Greek activities at the school would be suspended pending a thorough investigation of the incident

Colgate Rowing team The men's varsity rowing team at Colgate University is being suspended for multiple competitions after violations of the university's policies on alcohol and hazing.

The team has been suspended for all fall competitions, as well as the first competition of the spring season.

The team will also not be allowed to compete in the postseason.

As I stated months earlier in a post Penn St. and no college is immune to hazing and kids doing something stupid. This is again horrible news. You would think with all the news going on about hazing and frats that the kids would learn. They don't because kids who are freshmen are trying to fit in and they are willing to go further to do so. This is again a tragedy that should not have happened. Here is hope that schools across the country start allowing pledging to start when kids become sophomores. I really believe it would make a difference when it comes to these types of tragedies.
Yes, hazing is certainly not confined to Penn State

However, there are significant differences in the incidents you describe. First, I hadn't even heard of the Colgate incident, and probably because (fortunately) nobody was seriously injured or killed. And while the LSU incident resulted in a fatality:

1. The student who died was taken to an emergency room by a fellow frat member and was not allowed to lay overnight in the frat house. Much of the outrage involved in the PSU case stemmed from the actions of the "brothers" when there was obviously a problem. And
2. They're still waiting for a final determination it was hazing.

could happen anywhere unfortunately

They put their own self preservation over that kid's well being - sound familiar?

LSU President F. King Alexander added, "This is a tragedy for the entire LSU community. I take full responsibility and assure you that it will never happen again. That said, it is no where near as bad as Penn State covering up boys being raped for a decade."

Admittedly LSU is on par with PSU hazing and worse than the coach freezing the kicker in a blow out.

Stay proud PSU.
Also LSU

stopped all fraternity activity immediately. I don't believe PSU you did that and the frat brothers also tried to cover their incident up instead of taking the kid to the hospital right away.
Hazing goes on far too much

Hiding and enabling child molestation and abuse does not.

And that didn't sound right, obviously. But you get the point - child molestation doesn't happen everywhere, hence the hate and increased scrutiny.
