In 1984 The Giants drafted William Roberts in the 1st Round from Ohio State
He was supposed to be a Tackle and was written off as a bust.
He even used 3 different numbers trying to find his way with the Giants # 69,#76 before settling on good old dependable #66. You remember !
He played helped the Giants win 2 Super Bowls against Denver and Buffalo, as his accomplishments also include Pro Bowl.
He was forced in the beginning to be a Tackle.
Once he was switched to Guard his career took off.
Flowers is in the same position he should be playing any other position with the exception to Left Tackle
He may be able to play even Center.
Guard or Right Tackle is college position.
Give him a try at another position he may be able to transition better to Pro Bowler.
Not only is he a bad athlete but he doesn't use his strength effectively because his technique is so poor. He is like Kuandijo, Fluker, Greg Robinson etc. meaning his career as an NFL lineman is hanging on by a thread.

His shitty hand technique is due to his problem dealing with speed rushers who often line up against the left tackle. the players who line up vs a right tackle or guard rarely have the same speed so in theory Flowers should handle them better.
Pugh would do better than Flowers

He can't move laterally to his left side with balance. The Giants are hard headed.

or OG will be a cure all.

Way too tall and not flexible enough to play Center. Not including the fact that he has never played it!
We had 1st Rd Roberts (84), Elliot (2nd Rd 88), Moore (1st RD 88), Riesenberg (87 5th - I believe), Oates (USFL FA), Kratch (3rd Rd 89), Williams (1st rd 89).. Back then the Giants went after the Oline often in the draft.
He might actually be a very good guard and they should try that position ASAP.
Nice comparison EM#32
Thats why RG is his best shot in the NFL.

Now THIS is where we may be on to something.
The Giants drafted him, but it appears his skill set is designed to a strict power game and not that of a guy who can pass protect one-on-one 40+ times where he is exposed more often than not.
However, the team plays that style. So right off the bat, we have a problem. It was like drafting Andre Williams and trying to fit into a passing style offense when he had poor hands and not quick feet. It was doomed to failure.
His strength is his power game. It is likely his future career will be as a power player inside. The problem is the Giants are going to be stubborn to this all the way to the end.
David Diehl on Big Blue Kickoff Live yesterday said that Flowers has not taken one drill as a right tackle as a NYG. So if you think they are just going to move him over there now, that is not happening.
The time to experiment as different positions would have been during the last 8 months just to see what works for flexibility purposes. The fact the Giants figured that was not even an option is their own fault.
