It s not Flowers fault

joeinpa : 9/19/2017 7:47 pm
Successful businesses put people in position to succeed. They don t set them up for failure by placing them in the wrong position

According to Francesca during the game one of his NFL sources messaged him, that the Giants were the only team in the NFL that believed Flowers was equipped to play left tackle in the NFL

After watching him struggle with "technique" for more than an adequate amount of time to understand they were wrong in their assessment of his abilities, they have stubbornly refused to admit their mistake and reassign him to where his skill set gives him a better chance for success; the consensus seems to be any of the other positions on the line except center.

This mess is squarely on the people who drafted him for left tackle, on those who had no back up plan in place for this season, and on coaches who don t have the guts to make the sweeping changes on the line that would get him off that spot.
Yes and no.

Yes, it's up to the team to put the player in a position to succeed. Yes, it's up to the coaches and front office to size up a player's skills and weaknesses, assets and limitations, and act accordingly.

But no, the player isn't faultless for playing badly.

years older than the kid so I don't want to rag on him too much.

But he's not good. And I don't think we're helping him mentally by throwing him out there each week to get destroyed. I appreciate his effort & all, but he just isn't a starting LT in this league.
Repeated mistakes of this nature

As I pointed out in the other thread actually make he team 1% worse -- and we are waaaayyy down the rabbit hole
how long did it take
japanhead : 9/19/2017 8:06 pm : link
the giants to move william roberts from T to G? or the raiders to move robert gallery from T to G? this is only flowers' 3rd year and with a new staff, and he apparently trained hard this offseason.. so i can kind of see why the giants stuck with him this year, even though its looking like a bad call through games 1 and 2.

Yes, he is at fault for playing poorly but this little experiment has gone on long enough. He has basically shown what he is. It WAS his fault but now if we keep putting him out there it is on the coaches and GM.
McAdoo's responses to anything OLine related
UberAlias : 9/19/2017 8:09 pm : link
Are downright confounding. More and more the conspiracy theorist in me is screaming there's more to this than is apparent on the surface. Who is he covering for here? The GM should have done more and didn't. They blew the evaluation but perhaps can salvage something by doing the right thing here, but flat out refuse. Are they afraid to pay Pugh LT money? Are they this adverse to admitting a mistake? At the expense of a season?
Flowers is terrible
Bill in TN : 9/19/2017 8:10 pm : link
Even a neophyte like me can see he has no business at LT.
Problem is, there's no one to replace him if he's moved or benched.
I don't care how young or old he is. He's uncoordinated and, apparently, uncoachable.
Thank you Jerry Fucking Reese.
The minimum viable replacement doesn't even have to be an upgrade
UberAlias : 9/19/2017 8:16 pm : link
Replace him with someone equally as bad and let him upgrade Jerry or Hart. Progress is progress.
John Jerry must be on cloud nine

the biggest problem with this OL is there isn't enough tallent

across the board. Also more then one player is out of position. It leads to inconsistent play across the line. Flowers was actually alright week 1, but Jerry and Heart were so awful that our offense completely collapsed around them. Week two the offensive line played better on the right side after Pugh moved over but flowers got killed. In the second half the O-line actually managed to put some plays together but then the receivers forgot what those things on the ends of their hands were for. When you factor in specials we are a bad football team playing bad football.

Joe Thomas has put together a hall of fame career on offensive lines that were bottom of the barrel. And he wouldn't make this offense substantially better given the level of execution across the whole line and frankly every other position group.

That being said I think the op is right about one thing. The shortest path to good football is to start moving players into positions that fit their skill set and then design the rest of the offense around the perceived capabilities of that reshuffle. Otherwise might as well start looking to next years draft.

Does anyone expect him to become a good left tackle? I liked what he did his rookie year but honestly he's getting worse. I'm sure he would welcome a position change.

This is a talented roster with Eli still capable of playing well. Time for Reese to move. Send a 2nd rounder and go get Staley, Duane Brown, Thomas or Cody Glenn. Can't let this ruin the entire season.

go back and read threads over the last year
mdc1 : 9/19/2017 8:54 pm : link
about Flowers not being worth the time to fix. We are seeing that now. As the pope said this afternoon, he got beat every way last night and the only thing he could have done positive was ask the staff for him to carry the equipment back to lockeroom after the game.

Flowers can't play RT either. He needs to move to Guard. And I have heard the argument that playing guard could be harder than T, but at G he will be going against bigger, less athletic guys, and he won't have to do that kick step drop back pass protection that he just can't seem to get.

while this site remains a good place for Giants fans, the one drawback is posters who prefer to derail legitimate football points by attacking the poster.

They kind of remind me of some of the kids I knew in Jr High.

You re not in Jr High are you?

How much more of this does the Giants brass need to see to realize he's not getting any better. When Eli's head pops off??? They have backed themselves into a corner and unless they do something drastic in the way of a trade one can only hope something happens to turn this thing around.

Is it the coaching? Or more the denial by Reese and company things will get better. I cannot believe every single guy on that line can be that bad. Together they are terrible and nothing seems to be getting better. So it brings into question the coaching.

Having said that it has been a very predictable offense and if so does it make it that much more difficult to block because the defenses have no fear of the offense and attack at will.
Yes, you are correct. It's not his fault!

a strong, mental illness based aversion to being touched.

Seems like Eric may have this condition, and that it may be contagious, spreading to Jerry, Hart and Richboy as well.

"shit, you mean that guy plans to touch me? after the snap I better quickly move back and out of his way, ech, I hate being touched, people are dirty!, nasty!"

either that, or they are being carefully coached up to get out of peoples ways.

or maybe both.
