When Beckham is on the field

Looking at this offense in totality even when Beckham is on the field teams have not been afraid of this offense no matter how much of threat he is. That has been proven over and over the last year and the start of this year. Of course he's hurt right now but even if he wasn't defenses attack this offense and throw caution to the wind regardless of OBJ.

Is it the scheme? Many have criticized McAdoo's offense because it is too predictable. 90% of the time last year they ran out of the same receiver set. This year the offense looks eeerily the same. I realize it comes down to execution and talent on the field. Well, many believe the talent is there to threaten defenses. Yet they attack this offense like they came out of the huddle with them.

That doesn't explain the poor play of the offensive line but it sure makes one wonder of it isn't a contributing factor. It's that way every single game. Every game on the first set of downs they run Eli gets mauled. McAdoo has to change it up. Defenses are like hitters sitting on a particular pitch and more often the not they are correct and the damage is done.

we can't run or block so the odds of Beckham breaking a long play are less than they should be.

They don't respect the run

So they rush just 4, and Eli has to throw through 7 trees....and when you throw mainly short quick passes, it gets a little crowded back there.....we are not stretching the defense.....

I don't think we are using Double E effectively with short patterns......we should be using him on deep seams more.

So why sign Beckham?

Why sign him? Did you watch his first three seasons with mostly the same OLine problems? Is the only way to improve the line to give up our best player?

I agree completely. If you look back to the Parcells years their wide receivers were average at best. They believed in offensive line first to give the quarterback time to survey the field. And they also ran vertical routes that made the defensive backs make difficult decisions. They stretched the defenses. And that opened up the running game for Morris. The '86 Giants offense struggled a lot but they were able to move the ball. And it wasn't until later in that season it took off.

Then you had the smash mouth Giants of 1990. Again not a lot of great receivers but balance and execution and an ability to stretch the defense. Under Gilbride and Coughlin it was all about stretching the defenses and blowing the top off. It opened everything up. With this offense lord only knows what the plan is.

is exactly right, offenses are supposed to do the attacking. This offense starts out in back-pedaling mode and is in full retreat before the game ends, can't win like that!

There won't be any money left to sign any O-line if Beckham gets the contract he wants. Whose the last elite WR to lead his team to a Super Bowl victory?

Just doesn't seem to be in the model of a championship winning team more often than not.
