On the first 4th down play, it looked like Vereen had a good chance to score if we got the play off. He had 1-on-1 with a linebacker who was playing a bit off the line of scrimmage and it looked like the middle of the field was open. Looked like one of those plays where he might fake an out pattern and cut across the middle and Eli would have hit him for 6. I know this is all speculations but I'm just wondering if anyone else saw the same thing or if I am mistaken.

If you click on that link you can see the thread, but on the first 4th down it looked like he might have been able to hit Marshall sitting down in a zone well past the sticks.
There were plays like this during the Dallas game too. Eli has left some possible big gainers on the field. Then again, he hits Marshall and the fucking guy drops the ball. That's what happens when everyone is playing like shit.
Eli does not have time to go through the progressions
He has not time, so of course he needs to find a way to make the 1st (or at most 2nd) read work.
Yes the offensive line is hot garbage. But he has time here. He has to notice when he has a clean pocket and go through progressions. This is a vet, not a rookie.
Mind you, I've only been a fan since the 80s, but I remember Simms going through progressions and throwing in the face of pressure without looking scared. He took a lot of hits...and maybe his career ended because of it, but, he found the open receiver more than not...and he didn't have guys named Beckham and Marshall on his team.
There was safety help over the top. If the throw is not perfect, shepard gets plastered and incomplete.
Bereen did a shit job on that play. He did not push it did enough. Should have gone 2 more steps and he did not have to come back for the ball. That was stupid.
We're talking like a half second longer and on the back shoulder the safety probably wont make a play.

I don't think he has time for a pump fake.
