Next Gen Stats recap: Giants' offense has deep issues

The issues start up front for the Giants. Eli Manning was under pressure on 30.3 percent of his passes from the pocket. None of the sacks delivered to Manning came on a play where the Lions blitzed. The left side of the offensive line was particularly leaky, as Ereck Flowers was noticeably beat on a number of plays:

interesting ...

"His 2.61-second average time to throw was the 15th-fastest among Week 2 quarterbacks."

IMO this actually plays against the authors argument of being one of the worse O-lines

15th is middle of the league.

Of course you have to really look at the whole timing scale but to me that reads Eli did have time which leads to either

no separation

he was being too hesitant

You can't have watched Monday's game and come away thinking that Eli had ANY kind of time in the pocket. That middle of the league thing is just a freaking stat. Please.
This is an interesting stat

So each of the Lions' defensive linemen were closer to Eli than the league average. Most notably, Haloti Ngata (an interior lineman) was especially enjoying himself. If he's close to Eli, there is no pocket to step up into.

Flowers is a problem, but he isn't the only one.

I did watch. In some plays he did and others he didnt

I'm a huge Eli supporter but how can he not be a little gun shy after last season.

I think time will tell

Do you think the stat was false and made up out of the sky?

All you have to do for confirmation is pull out a stopwatch and watch the tape for yourself. That will tell you whether the number is true or not.

It isn't a difficult exercise. The "use your eyes" crowd loves to make these kind of arguments.
The Number is Borderline Irrelevant

I'm not sure how you can watch what we all watched and quote a stat like this thinking it is useful. Eli is under siege, almost constantly. "Using your eyes" ALONG with analyzing stats is how real football minds work. Not just spitting out numbers saying we're 15th in the league so the line is league average.
You are overcomplicating things

When this isn't even one of those fancy new age stats people love to hate.

This is a very important stat. Its not just the 2.6 seconds time to throw. Its also the collapsing pocket around him. With defenders always breathing down his neck, it makes it hard to go through progressions, step into throws, etc.So IMO pressure is just as important as getting to him, its a very dirty pocket. The few times he got a clean pocket he threw strikes, for example to Marshall.
