NFT: Isola: Melo's camp "optimistic" he will to be traded by 9/25

DanMetroMan : 9/20/2017 11:07 am
"Anthonys camp is cautiously optimistic that a deal will be struck before Monday, and trying not to think about the potential media circus that will take place if Carmelo is still with the Knicks. Two weeks ago, Carmelos wife, La La, said the family thought a trade would have been completed by now.

Mentally, Carmelo and his family have moved on to Houston. Reality is another story. Hopefully, Mills and Perry will have the right answers when they address the media on Friday because the Carmelo issue isnt going away until he goes away."

(Article reads as total BS as he also says "The problem, however, is that Carmelo has limited his trade list to one team, the Rockets. So, unless Houston can find someone to take Ryan Andersons contract (hes owed over $60M over the next three seasons), Carmelo is stuck in limbo."

Knicks don't need to do anything
steve in ky : 9/20/2017 11:11 am : link
They actually have all the leverage since Melo has been so vocal about insisting he doesn't want to remain a Knick. If he wants to leave badly enough he will need to increase the amount of teams he is willing to go to.

I always laugh
bceagle05 : 9/20/2017 11:13 am : link
at the "Houston just needs to find a taker for Ryan Anderson's contract" qualifier that every reporter has used for months. That's been the main issue since day one - the deal isn't really close until that matter is settled. What a circus training camp will be with (potentially) Melo, KP, Hornacek and Rambis, along with a slew of new faces and a brand new offensive system to install.

Out brilliantly for Knicks, they just need to stand there ground and not give in to rockets. They have to be extremely nice to Melo, tell him he is a great player yards yada, however he doesn't fit with that they are trying to do any they are going to only play him minimum minutes per night so they can develop the young guys. Tell him they are happy to trade him to another team but nothing with Houston works. They will also buy him out if he waves his 2018 option. There is no way he is going to waste a year playing 20 mins a night in a rebuild. They have to be overly nice to him to not give off a bad vibe around the league like Phil had.

Portland trade makes sense or a trade to okc sending kanter to Milwaukee, expiring Monroe to Knicks, knicks get some young players, draft picks and expirings. I would also take kanter with the thought that he is more then likely to opt out after this year.
Rockets
TyreeHelmet : 9/20/2017 11:38 am : link
If I'm the Knicks the only way I do a trade with the Houston is if they are giving up multiple future 1sts to take back Andersen. Even if the Rockets find a 3rd team for Ryno, what are the Knicks getting back? If the Rockets are willing to include sweeteners to take back Ryno, I'd rather the Knicks just get them.

I don't think Hayes or Artis have a real shot

Excited to finally see Frank

career 29% from 3, 32% this past season, career 67% from the line, 53% this season for a 6'4 2 those are simply awful numbers. 24 in April.

Dotson was the most impressive SL player
Pep22 : 9/20/2017 1:17 pm : link
Really impressive stroke.

6'7" and well developed NBA ready body.

Athletic (not necessarily a sky-walker, but very good end to end speed).

Competes hard, especially on the glass.

I am not saying he's = Klay Thompson. That is far too lofty. But he does have skill-set that suggests he models his game after KT.

is likely a 1st rounder if not for the sexual assault stuff. My roster would be

KP
Willy
Melo (I want him gone but he's here so...)
Baker
Beasley
Dotson
THjr
Jack
Noah
Lee
Kuz
Thomas
Sessions
KOQ
Frank

and 2 way roster spots to Artis and Kornet

Jarrett Jack has been one of more than 15 Knicks working out and scrimmaging at the team's training facility in Tarrytown. Carmelo Anthony has been training at his gym in the Sky Building in Manhattan but hasn't been working out at the facility, which is somewhat noteworthy but not all that surprising since the Knicks and Anthony aren't on great terms (the club wants to trade Anthony; Anthony wants to be traded). Other Knicks players have been to Carmelo's gym for pickup and members of the organization, including Steve Mills and Jeff Hornacek, have attended workouts.
Can anyone come up a scenario where

Yes, of course. I'd be very surprised if Houston ends up blinking and arranging a good deal for the Knicks before the season though

I wouldn't be surprised if Isolas story was planted in some way by Melo's "camp" to try and grease the wheels

Trade deadline to the Rockets or somewhere else Melo agrees to probably more likely

Yup.
Knicks are playing this right....
Keith : 9/22/2017 10:51 am : link

Knicks president Steve Mills said that he expects Carmelo Anthony to be with the team on Monday for Media Day and Tuesday for the start of training camp.

Both Melo and the Knicks organization would prefer to part ways, but Anthony has a no-trade clause and the team is not willing to take back an unfavorable contract in any deal. Thus, it appears that Melo will start the season in New York. The persistent rumors may calm down a bit now that training camp is upon us. Anthony averaged 22.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.0 3-pointers last season. Expect him to post similar numbers for the Knicks in 2017-18.

Knicks are playing hardball at this point. Glad to see they aren't catering to this loser. It's under our terms, or you will be back in the same situation you've been in. Open up the list to more teams, not just to play with your buddies.
Perry
DanMetroMan : 9/22/2017 10:54 am : link
can't relent on Anderson. It would set an awful precedent. Obviously that changes if the return is so overwhelming that you go "well, you got X so Anderson is fine" but realistically speaking his first big move can't be a "bad" Melo deal. Also sounds like Jack has "made" the team despite his deal not being guaranteed.
Perry has made an excellent first impression.

If Melo wants to be a Rocket so badly
Greg from LI : 9/22/2017 11:04 am : link
Then his agent should be burning up the phone lines to put together some kind of multi-team deal, because the Knicks aren't going to commit a self-inflicted wound just to make him happy.

Carmelo Anthony's people are trying a Hail Mary attempt to get him to Houston (Knicks won't do it) ... before he accepts a deal to Portland

far from a Melo "hater" but some of these guys are ridiculous. Wade apparently wants a buyout but not give up "significant money". Sorry bro, you opted-in, you wanted money over rings.
Id be ok with a portland trade,
Keith : 9/22/2017 11:16 am : link
however I'd rather Melo opened his list to about 5 teams so that they can bid against each other.

he is mad because he said the knicks were on the 2 yard line and then the knicks said no deal...

a Portland trade. They have young players (Harkless, Swanigan, Collins) and expirings to make a deal work.
Yeah, if we deal him to Portland
bceagle05 : 9/22/2017 12:59 pm : link
that's a huge win for Mills/Perry. The return won't be incredible, but it's better than anything Houston can give us and it's a victory in the game of chicken that's going on right now.
in theory a Portland deal should
Enzo : 9/22/2017 1:20 pm : link
be better for us but I've been conditioned to expect the worst with this team. I want no part of Turner or Leonard...which means it almost has to be Aminu, Harkless and then whatever young pieces we can squeeze. It might only be one.
if the main holdup to a HOU deal is anderson..
Italianju : 9/22/2017 2:06 pm : link
i cant see them turning around and getting Turner or Leonard. Unless POR is willing to give up a few young assets. I mean if they want to give us swanigan and collins ill happily take back Leonard and Harkless. Leonard's deal sucks, but we arent signing FA's anytime soon. Get as many young assets as you can and hope we get lucky with a couple.

if he's ultimately getting traded, it's in everyone's (his, Knicks, acquiring team) best interest if it happens before camp starts.
