Two Tight End Set

Gary JC : 9/20/2017 11:20 am
Why are we not using two TE sets? I would use it constantly! It not only disguises the play but assists the offensive line. Am I missing something here? I don't like this coach at all, I think he's an arrogant ass. He gives these smirky two word answers like he's the second coming of Belichick. And to look at the schedule, the absolute best this team can do is to have a 2 - 4 record at the break.
I have posed the same question here about 12 times

and started a thread. It's alarming to me.

It's like a no-brainer! You got the guys and now the defense will not know if you're setting up the run or pass. I mean, holy shit!
Its doesn't appear ...

they rarely run the ball as well. Same with Philly. I think its just part of West Coast Offense, and I hate it.

They ran it a few times v. Dallas,

but I don't recall seeing it at all Monday night. Would make sense to allow Ellison to help out in pass pro before leaking out. The flip side is that it takes Shepard off the field.

Not arguing that we shouldn't do it, but you know posters will complain that Shepard isn't playing enough.

Eric's NJ.com post shows that they ran the 12 personnel package (1 RB, 2 TE's) 11 times in 55 plays. I think we'll see a little more of it Sunday.

No it doesn't necessarily take Shep off the field that much at all. You rotate the big 3...

And here's the even bigger crazy thing in all of this....Beckham WAS HURT!

I'm tellin you there's no way in hell Reese and Mara aren't giving Ben the business rignt now. No way in hell they devote the resources they did to Ellison for him to be a glorified backup...shit he isn't even that right now. The guy plays 35 % of the time and that's with Beckham hurt.

This is madness.
McAdoo needs to change his

Philosophy and he needs to do it quick. Not saying that he is on the hot seat just, but his offense does NOT fit the current personnel. It might not cost him his job this year, but he will immediately start next year on the hot seat if this doesnt change soon.
oh I forgot
djm : 9/20/2017 11:40 am : link
we can't take these RBs off the field right? We can't sit the RBs and play Engram as the H back with Ellison as the inline TE 5 plays a game and line up the big 3 WRs? Can't do that? Can't sit Marshall for a few plays? He's that good I guess?

It's crap. Total crap. The guy's in over his head.

He's also our leading receiver in terms of # catches....
you don't have to sacrifice that much burn
djm : 9/20/2017 11:52 am : link
for any of the 3 WRs by getting Ellison and Engram on the field together. It's not rocket science. There are a myriad of ways you can get all these guys a high number of snaps. You can line Engram up in the backfield without a true RB. You can, gasp, go empty backfield with no RB or HBack. You can also adjust when one of the WRs are hurt and use that as an excuse to go two or three TEs more frequently.

But Ben felt the 11 personnel was working even with Beckham out.

Disaster.

Two losses and the guy is in over his head. Wow.

Not true.. Bill Walsh ran the ball all the time with Roger Craig..

Now we dont have a Roger Craig quality running back either.

I'm not talking about Bill Walsh. I am talking about Mike McArthy and his version, and you know where Mac came from.

Again, why give Ellison all that money if he's barely going to play?

If you don't think something is dramatically wrong with the offensive formations and subsequent results I don't know what else to say. I

You know I'm not one to kill the HC. I gave Ben nothing but praise for the 2016 season. To me this Ellison thing is either a clear disconnect between mcadoo and the front office or the guy is struggling to grasp the personnel he has it his disposal, during the games. Either way it's a huge concern.

Unless you think the giants to a man had no problems giving 25 million to a guy that will barely play while the perfect stop gap FA left tackle got similar money elsewhere.
Concur, we need more two TE sets
Emil : 9/20/2017 12:22 pm : link
The TE is the most versatile position on the offensive side of the ball. You can create a ton of mismatches, especially with a player like Engram. Given McAdoo's experience as GB's TE coach, I'm surprised we don't see more two TE sets.

in relation to the FB also. In week 1 the only two drives of substance saw a nice mix of personnel and packages, making nice use of th e FB, a TE in the backfield, and 2 TE sets. We moved the ball and had some element if surprise. Plus, e of the 4 TEs have made some nice contributions already. So why not go with them more or at least line up the FB more than a few times a game.

I like McAdoo less and less.
