All we heard about Ben McAdoo, when he was Giants offensive coordinator, was how great he was at Green Bay. How he'd revolutionize our offense.
Then he was promoted to head coach, and in his first year, his offense often sputtered but it could be overlooked because the defense clearly won him some ball games.
Spags was a hero in his first go-round with NYG, then he gets elevated to head coach and shits the bed. It just doesn't work, so he returns to what appeared to have been his strength, as DC. A few personnel moves and we have a very good unit.
Now McAdoo is floundering. He's head coach, but also holding on tightly to what he's likely most comfortable with: constructing and calling the offense.
Is it too much? Is he simply not being the type of manager successful head coaches need to be?
Definition: The Peter Principle is a concept in management theory formulated by educator Laurence J. Peter and published in 1969. Thus, employees only stop being promoted once they can no longer perform effectively, and "managers rise to the level of their incompetence.
Maybe too soon to tell. And sure, the O-line is the thing here, but how much culpability does McAdoo have in standing pat with this group, and rolling things over, hoping for that elusive "continuity."
Just a matter of time before it's brought up: Has McAdoo risen to his level of incompetence?

As God as my witness - ( New Window )
Maybe an atrocious o-line is too much to overcome, regardless of the coach, their experience, or area of focus. Look at Seattle... it took them seven and a half quarters to score a TD because their o-line is awful too. And we know Pete Carroll is a good coach. Combine that with an aging, immobile QB and perhaps that's too much going against McAdoo right now. Or maybe McAdoo just stinks. I just think it's unfair to make any overarching statements about him at this point.
I also think you're being unfair to Spags. He took over a team that hasn't had a winning season since 2003. It's not as if the Rams were suddenly successful once they fired him.
Not for me. The run game has always been an after thought. The reason the team Won 11 games mainly on the defense last year.
He fell into a perfect situation. I hope he proves me
Wrong and turns it around but this guy's resume was paper thin as a OC hire. Mara loves him. Great. But this team looks to be 6-10 at best
I remember he won HIS wild card game.
I hope he gets fired quick then and if he by a miracle gets another HC job you guys who love this guy can all say I told u so
So he either has to change his style to suit his team, or look to change personnel to fit his plan. A good coach would adjust.
Lets see what McAdoo does.
He was not "awful" in Cleveland or anywhere close to awful.
Awful is a stretch. And the browns also had that whole moving to Baltimore thing which sort of put a damper on things. He wasn't the goat just yet but he wasn't terrible in Cleveland either.

I hate it when people give all he credit to the head coach blindly and then absolve him totally when the team falls apart.
He has more talent and the same exact OL
Yes the OL sucks. It u can't blame Reese because his loyal followers crap
Their metrosexual panties if anyone questions anything he does
He's the simple truth McAdoo is a guy w a paper thin coaching resume. He had a great first year. Now into his 5 th year calling plays he's being out coached weekly. Last year and this year.
So. Reese can't put together a good OL. AND McAdoo is a crappy offensive coach. Both can be true

who was AWFUL in his first stint as head coach of the Browns.. but no one remembers that..
I remember he won HIS wild card game.
Could've been worse. Imagine if Belicheck coached an NFC East rival or the Jets instead. (***shudder***)
