I'm tired of all the negative football talk. Are there any songs for you that come to mind, that when you hear the solo, guitar or any other instrument, that for you it is one of the most perfect things you've ever heard?
For me, to immediately come to mind. First- Jimmy Page's solo in Stairway to Heaven. The song may be overplayed but the solo still moves me. Second is Clarence Clemmon's saxophone solo in Jungleland. I could listen to that forever. His solo in Prove it All Night is also up thee for me.
THIN LIZZY - Cowboy Song - ( New Window )
Good call! One of the few Mountain songs I really like (and written by Jack Bruce).
Derek Trucks on Midnight in Harlem...tons of live versions.
In this case however I have to give Steve Morse his props.
He does not get enough credit for the stuff he has done with Purple, or even with the Dixie Dregs. He is one amazing guitarist that has played Blackmore's stuff flawlessly over the years and this is one of the best in the entire Purple catalog.

2 F-bombs in the opening monologue so NSFW.
Frank Zappa- - ( New Window )
Roy Buchannon Please don't turn me away
Tina Guo Wonder Woman, Crystalize
The Outlaws Green Grass and high Tides
Almost one long solo, so not sure if that qualifies, but I love Buchannon's Sweet Dreams too. So many twists and turns in his playing in one song.

Also, EVH on Beat It is pretty sick.

Gary Richrath
Richrath is often forgotten in these discussions because REO is an under the radar band, but his leads are as memorable as any - the lead in Keep On Lovin' You is also pretty epic - he had killer tone - phenomenal chops - for me, the only reason worth watching REO at all back in the day. Great player - died a couple of years back...
Agreed.
Gary Richrath and Kevin Cronin absolutely crush it.

Clapton solo - ( New Window )
Voodoo Chile - ( New Window )
Good point I'm surprised no one has mentioned Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour or Mark Knopfler either - no mention of Jimi Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen either.

REO wasn't under the radar. They were often boring soft pop rock but they had multiple hits. Two number ones at least.
Buck Dharma on "Burnin for You". That's a fun song.
