Flowers did okay other than 3 plays Monday, so says Flowers.

"Minus those plays, I thought I played all right," Flowers said. "Those three plays were big, so it overshadows any good work I did. But other than that, I'm on to the next week."

Flowers' main takeaway after watching the film: "Just go out there and work the technique. Get the job done."

Why should he hold himself more accountable than everyone else does, honestly? No matter what he does, it doesn't seem to matter -- he even attacked a reporter last season (however much of a douche he is) and the team didn't seem to care.

What he's saying echoes what McAdoo did. In some ways, he's falling in line with his HC.
But other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play!

This guy is beyond pathetic. I believe the team would get a lift if they knew Flowers was being benched. Flowers lacks ability and confidence. If he wasn't Jerry's wonderful #9 pick he would be on the practice squad. Flowers has regressed each year.

Where did I say only Flowers is to blame? I have been all over McAdoo too. I have been on Pugh for his comments with the OL for the last 2 years. I was on Pugh for blaming the fans and media for Flowers' lack of confidence. McAdoo is enabling this. 100%. With anything in life there needs to be balance. You cannot always praise someone because they don't learn discipline and consequences. You cannot always beat some one up either. I have coached for many years and I have taught for many years. The kids I am tougher on are the kids that love me the most.

One of my favorite experiences teaching was this. I had a student who was absent for almost the first month of school. When he finally showed up I talked to him privately. I was very stern and told him that he is so far behind that it will be difficult to pass. I will be there for him but it will be the effort he puts in that will be the deciding factor whether he does well in that class or not. I went through all of my expectations with him. We ended the conversation.

I go back into the classroom and check my email. I got an email from someone that let me know I had him as a new student and the reason he missed the first month of school was because he was homeless. I felt like shit. I wasn't a dick but I was firm.

The year went on and he came up to me the last day of school and thanked me. I said for what? He said nobody has every showed that they cared as much about him before and people always took it easy on him because of his situation. He said because I had high expectations of him and I held him accountable that it got the most out of him. He aced his regents exam. That is when I truly learned that you can be very tough on people but if you don't show them you care then it won't mean anything. If you are too nice then that doesn't teach them anything. When it is blended together that is when you maximize their potential.

I had another student who I coached and he was a dick. I had him as a student as well. He had no discipline in his life so any time someone yelled at him or asked him to do something he didn't want to do he'd give up. There was a simple situation where he wasn't paying attention and was constantly on his phone. I asked him to put it away numerous times and he just kept on taking it out. I asked for his phone. He said no. I wasn't budging. He walked out of class. He went to the HC to complain. The HC didn't want to make it a big deal because he didn't want him to miss the game. Great example being set.

Months later he comes to me and asks me if I can write a letter. He was a senior. I thought it was for college but asked what for? He said a judge handling his case wanted a letter from his teacher. He told me it was to help keep him out of jail. I said no. He was shocked. I said I will do it under one circumstance. He agreed. I wrote it and was very honest at how the kid was a dick but was showing improvement. I then put my number on there dor the judge to call me if he had any questions or concerns. I told both the judge and him that I would be 100% honest. The student understood.

I saw him the year after he graduated and he was enrolled in college. I saw him just the other day. It has been about 5 years. He noticed me out and came up to me. He is doing well. He ws headed down a bad path but straightened out.

The point of these two stories is that we keep hearing phrases like millenials and snowflakes. Part of the issue is that this is the environment we live in. It is our job to teach and educate them. The sense of entitlement and self importance is at an all time high. Flowers' quote tells me that he is satisfied with his performance "outside of three plays". I look at that and just shake my head. If I feed my son and he chocked once because I cut his food too much should I saw that well I have done a good job as a parent because I cut up 100 other meals that were fine? If I am his teammate I wouldn't be happy with that mentality. If I were him I would never even think of complimenting myself if we just got our asses handed to us and I was a reason for that. Have we ever heard Snee, Diehl, O'Hara, Suebert, Boothe, McKenzie, etc. say anything like that? Of course not. And we aren't talking about a player that has been a probowl player that had a bad game. We are talking about a guy who has been nothing but potential. He is in his 3rd year.
#9 pick in the draft
HomerJones45 : 9/21/2017 5:23 pm : link
Jerry is starting to blow the high draft picks now too.
I just started thinking
robbieballs2003 : 9/21/2017 5:26 pm : link
I am not saying this is the reason for Flowers struggles but I don't think it helped either. Flowers negotiates his own contract because he didn't want to pay an agent and it makes sense financially for your first contract since there is little to negotiate. However, I wonder if not having that sounding board and support of an agent made his transition to the NFL a little harder. Having an agent doesn't just mean he only helps out with contract negotiations. They can put you in contact with other players, ex-players, training agencies, etc.

Again, I am not saying that is THE reason for his shortcomings but I would have to imagine that having an agent can help in certain areas. I wonder if there are statistics to compare hiw players are doing without agents when they enter the league.

Just a random thought I had.

He's given up some big plays, but overall across both games the protection from his side of the line hasn't been too bad.

Unfortunately there's so much hysteria around this guy right now that no one is evaluating his play rationally.

Everyone has bad days so it does happen. Like it or not, the team doesn't appear to have any plans for a change at the position. Whatever the outcome, they own the results.
What do you expect the guy to say?

Flowers knows the Giants have no willingness to change and nobody to change to. So he can just go on showing he is "working hard" during the practice week and then default to his flawed-play on Sundays.

Giants didn't address a line that got much worse from 2015 to 2016, and now in 2017 we have hit rock bottom.

Or maybe not which is scary...
I don't blame him..
chuckydee9 : 9/21/2017 8:03 pm : link
Its the coaches Job to tell him that he screwed up on about half the plays.. Its the GM's job to bring someone else in who will take over for him if he keeps this up.. He can say whatever he wants.. its what the coaches and GM do about his actual play that I care about.. and so far it doesn't seem like either the coaches or GM recognize the problem..
What Flowers says to the press is not important.
81_Great_Dane : 9/21/2017 8:35 pm : link
It's up to the coaches (not us) to hold him accountable. I'm gonna lay off him, other than to say that the first step to recovery is to admit you have a problem.

In opinion of Ereckwhateverthefuck Flowers. He comes off as a pompous, confrontational, defensive jerkoff when he gets embarassed on a weekly basis by anybody who lines up across from him. Whats worse is that the coaching staff coddles and enables him to act like this.

Hes got a lot of balls. David Diehl would not have responded the way Flowers did. This is a team that I was soooooo excited about that I might hate more than any other Giants team. Yes, even Handley's. And fuck mentiining his nname. That team sucked, but lets label the loser.

Have done a horrific job on the o-line earlier I kind of felt
sorry for Flowers but in 3 years he is not even close to
progressing and Bobby Hart isn't an NFL starter either he
may be able to make it at Guard .After watching a youtube evaluation holy smokes this was a reach watching what Ziggy
did to him lifted him right into the air that was sad to watch especially when there triple teaming the tackle
Brett Jones should have been helping Flowers out you would
think that Solari or someone would have reminded him hey
help Eric out if your if no one is in front of you .
He could have easily stepped over and helped but never looked
problem is that those stunts are

happening shortly after guards or center moves to help the next player over.

so they may have been told to stay in the gap.

which not only leads you back to weak tackle play, point points out the overall reactive nature of this game plan visa vis OL play.

Typically you see the OL, shoulders squared to the line, crouched, almost on heels, waiting for the DL or LBs to come, and then react.

As opposed to firing out at the square, much less at an angle, at snap.

So, this has been a major weakness of this scheme from the get-go.

Add to that, a predominance of pass plays that, while, any one of which may not be low% type in completion rate, most of which seem to be slightly lower than average % wise, so, if you add together all the pass plays in a game, you have a greater average level of risk throughout any given game.

as I said the past two years, high risk/ high rewards, leaving it all on Manning -to- Becks.
so, if you prioritize by clock; in half seconds,
idiotsavant : 9/22/2017 7:53 am : link
starting at snap, the first weakness of this style of play is that it puts the OL in reactive mode right away, handing the initiative to the DL in opposition.

And yes, that certainly effects OL play, what happens on the line, both in terms of young player development and in terms of w/l.

Is it an excuse for weak play and possibly poor scouting? No.

But, you cannot simply say 'its up to them (these young kids, flowers, hart, and journeymen, like jerry) to deal with it'.

You must change it up to create better outcomes both in play and player.
