NFT: Any suburban Atlanta BBI'ers here? Commuting info needed.

Crispino : 9/21/2017 9:36 pm
We may be moving from North Jersey to the Atlanta area. My wife has an career opportunity in Atlanta which may be worth relocating for. We're starting to look at Northern communities like Alpaharetta, John's Creek, and Suwanee and Decatur. Anyone familiar with these areas? Specifically, were concerned with the commute into Atlanta.

Is there any mass transit? Trains? Buses? Also, any towns where the commute might be better than others? Recommended towns?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Visiting buddy tomorrow in Cumming.

Great town, though a bit of a hike from downtown Atlanta. Mass transit down there sucks...MARTA doesn't really go out to suburbs. Buddy usually picks me up at North Springs station.

Great place, but traffic sucks too.

I live in Cumming

Great schools... great neighborhoods... terrible commute to ATL unless you leave early.

Where in ATL?
The job is at Coca Cola headquarters just north of center city.

Is bad ... if she's going to work early she would be ok being north of the city.

The drive home sucks no matter what time you leave.

My wife works off exit 4 on 400 and the commute sucks , but she only does it twice a week.

I've been here 7 years now , love it.
My dad lives on the Alpaharetta Roswell line

When I go to visit, I take the MARTA to North Springs from the airport. Seems like an easy ride to and from. As others have said 400 is a traffic nightmare. I believe MARTA North Springs station has free parking as well, not 100% sure on that but worth looking into. Atlanta has some of the worst traffic issues in the country.

Roswell/Alpaharetta area is really nice. I like that area much more than where they were living in Smyrna.
Im in Johns Creek - 15+ years

Great neighborhoods - great public schools - Cost of living is awesome - bad commute to downtown (hour and a half slow going) there is no realistic mass transit. Most folks out here work from home or out in the burbs.
I am in Roswell

North Atlanta communities are nice but you basically are biting the bullet on a bad commute if you work anywhere near downtown.

There is MARTA train but it doesn't reach far enough north to make it worthwhile to use to me since you still have to take a bus or short ride to train station.

If hours in office can be flexible, then maybe you can work a few days a week at home. Or switch off coming into office early a few times a week and late a few others.

good luck...
