Giant thoughts, my own personal opinion, short and sweet....

Blue Angel : 9/23/2017 9:29 am
If we lose tomorrow the season is over...If we lose tomorrow I could see us going 4-12 with POSSIBLE wins over San Diego at home, San Fran on the road, Philly at home if Philly is not in contention for the division and Washington at home if the Skins are out of the playoffs or play their second stringers because they clinched a playoff spot. In this case we gotta let Eli go, his cap hit is like 22 million and he aint getting any better but older and slower.....commit to Webb as your starter, let Gino go and sign a decent journeyman qb that won't be in competition with Webb like Gino would be, I just don't feel comfortable with Gino and Webb together, I don't think that they would be rooting foe each other to win the qb job for the New York Giants together...With that 22 million use it to rebuilt the OL and let Pugh go if he is asking for too much money.

If we end up 4-12, I doubt Webb ends up the starter because we'll be drafting one of the 3 big QBs in the first rd.

You beat me to it. Don t write off seasons, but that wouldn't be a bad consolation for a loss season

The only consolation if this season stays on the path that it is on is that the Giants are in position to get their next franchise QB. You are not going to pass on one of the top guys because you spent a 3rd round pick on Davis Webb the year before.
So if we get a top three pick.....
Blue Angel : 9/23/2017 9:55 am : link
and draft one of those QBs what can we get for Webb in a trade, a Ham Sandwich??? We would be VERY LUCKY to get a seventh round pick for him in that case.

Lucky to get 7th?
Where you getting that from?
My own view short and sweet

If we go 4-12 which is a possibility, our entire draft should be offensive lineman ... unless of course we could trade a pick for a new GM.
I don't think "short and sweet" means what you think it means

Given the way that our high draft choices have failed the OL, maybe we should ticket one big free agent, who could help out the young guys.
The Giants offense is capable of playing much better.
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 9/23/2017 11:06 am : link
Three premium draft picks in the OL. I thought the other guys were solid or better.

Right now that unit is just in a daze. Like an overmatched army unit that has been routed twice by the enemy. Lifeless. Like the army unit, the offense needs a leader and a shakeup.

We all laughed at Coughlin's inspirational videos.

A new game plan. Pick up a veteran running back who still has a lot left in the tank and is fast enough to get around the corner to spread out that defensive front.
It's sad to say
blueblood'11 : 9/23/2017 11:17 am : link
But this season may very well be over before it ever gets started. I wouldn't get rid of Eli because I don't believe he's the problem. Webb can learn behind him. If they draft high enough and stud offensive linemen are there that's where you go. And whatever money under the cap you can allocate go out and get another one. Build a fortress around Eli.
Take a look at the league.....
Simms11 : 9/23/2017 11:31 am : link
and currently the other 0-2 teams. We could actually end up with a poor record and end up drafting still around 7?! Play around league is poor. Unfortunately, the Giants have a very bad offense right now.
If this happens Reece should be fired !

Piss away a 3rd round pick and ignore the one thing that hold the offense back ? We didn't help ourselves at RB either !

I think QBs and OLs are the hardest positions to draft true blue chippers.
Poor planning then.......

The only consolation if this season stays on the path that it is on is that the Giants are in position to get their next franchise QB. You are not going to pass on one of the top guys because you spent a 3rd round pick on Davis Webb the year before.

Then you have wasted a third round pick....

To have a real shot at a top qb, you have to have like a 2 win season......I can see this offense turning it around to the point that the only way to get a top 3 qb is to trade up.....which will make that third round pick a real mistake....

The only reason you draft Webb in the third, is if you think he is your qb of the future......to go after a qb next season wasted that pick, and a roster spot this season...
So many people say
Gman11 : 9/23/2017 1:14 pm : link
"It's a marathon, not a sprint."

You know what? If they start 0-3, then they are just about out of a playoff spot. They would have to go 10-3 the rest of the way to have a shot. And, what would make people think that they are good enough to go 10-3 when they are bad enough to start 0-3?

It's not a marathon. In no other team sport can you lose three games and almost be counted out of a playoff spot. Only 3 teams in the history of the NFL have made the playoffs after starting 0-3.
Why would anyone not think the season is over based on the putrid
SterlingArcher : 9/23/2017 4:02 pm : link
display shown by the Giants offense the past two week? They have managed 13 points in two games! The defense once again hasn't been able to get of the field on 3rd down, so, what makes anyone believe they can throw a switch and suddenly start playing championship football.

EXCEPT, the OL will still suck.

If he doesn't get it done this year, he is useless to the the Giants, thereafter.

I agree. I'd pick an OL player and not a QB. First what would another skill player do behind this line (the answer is nothing), plus we have Webb.

If they are both in the right fit for you team, and have NFL type player metrics, especially the rd 1s, then it shouldn't be that hard.
QB is the harder because that is really his only spot(with exceptions, but a LT that has power but has poor movement to the left in pass protection always has a shot at being a OG (a-hum), or even C.
IF this nonsense continues on the Offensive Line then
Jimmy Googs : 9/23/2017 5:58 pm : link
we have to pick the best O-lineman available in Rd 1 no matter what. I would also then choose a top RB in the first several rounds as well. Add in another O-lineman in Free Agency.

I never want to see Flowers, Jerry or Hart on the field again for this team. And yes, I realize the other two (Pugh and Richburg) have contracts coming up but I don't have enough intell to know which way that goes yet.

If it means we have 5 new O-lineman on the field in Sept 2018 then so be it...
It’s way too early to have this discussion -
Toastt34 : 9/23/2017 8:24 pm : link
But if you have an opportunity to draft a franchise QB for the next 10-15 years you do it. Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Rudolph. This has a chance to be another 83 or 04 QB class. Yes they need OL, but if they’re 4-12, they need a hell of a lot more than OL and it’s full-on rebuild mode.
If they end up in the top 5
LakeGeorgeGiant : 9/23/2017 9:51 pm : link
They will likely take a franchise QB considering Eli's age. Webb's presence wouldn't prevent them from doing so.

I think at this point no matter what they'd have to look to FA to plug a hole or two on the OL.

In this scenario I also suspect Reese would be out the door.
I can t believe how many of you
joeinpa : 9/23/2017 10:10 pm : link
Think the Giants would or should draft an O line if a possible franchise quarterback is there.

I also don t think it would be wise to try and build around a next year 38 year old quarterback.

Eli is here for 4 more years. Get Barkley from Penn State instead. Just like we should have taken Gurley at 10 instead of Flowers. What a miss that was.

4 more years? He has 2 years left on his contract after this season and there are no guarantees he'll play out the full length of it - would anyone be shocked if he retired after this season or next?

You can only cut Eli.

You can not get ANYTHING for him in a trade. No.one will give us anything at all for the right to pay a 38 year old QB $22 million next year. He is absolutely worthless as trade bait.

Yes, next year. January of next year. 4 months from now he will be 37. By the start of next season he will be nearly 38.

He isn't going to be here 4 years, and it's apparent that even if he was, his skills are on the decline already. What good is he going to be 3 years from now?

I know getting a new QB is a scary proposition, but some of you are living in a fantasy land if you think Eli is playing until he is 42.

Thankfully the Giants aren't going to put all their eggs in the Eli basket under the delusion that he will play at a high lever until he is 42.
