Last year he finally broke the terrible habit of crashing hard inside virtually every play and was a beast against the run. This year, he's doing it regularly and getting exposed in both the running and passing games.
His defenses are not very good when he doesn't have a dominant DL. This year the DL is average, so the D is suspect.
I didn't really want to bring this guy back. It felt cheap or lazy or just kind of wrong to me. I think he's an overrated dc. He has his pelts so I can't kill him but right now, hard to support him. He's done a terrible job in 2015 and 2017.
RE: I've said it over and over...Spags is overated.
is unfathomable. Playing soft coverage and hoping for a mistake with the game on the line is a recipe for a loss. The game got turned around when he started bringing it in the 3rd qtr. Why go back to what was not working?

It's not like the rest of the defense is fine. The LBs all stink except for Goodson against the run and none of the safeties can cover.
So Spags defenses are no good when the d-line isn't dominant, the LBs suck, and the safeties can't cover. Every defense with those problems sucks.
He's made mediocre D look good with dominant DL play, which makes sense. Last year, for example, we didn't have good LBs, FS was average at best, and our depth at CB left a lot to be desired. But, up front we dominated and the D as a unit excelled.
yet this board gets all pissy when he questioned the money spent on D.
And based on that, people should really stop and think a little about Beckham, his performance thus far this year, and the money that's about to be spent on him, as well.
I personally feel like they have to keep him, but it gives me pause.

If they pay him they are out of their minds. I can not say this strongly enough.
They should trade him today. It's the best way to maximize an asset that is eroding in value by the minute.
BUT - but, but, but, DT play must improve vs the run. that is the bottom line, the whole back 7 was built on the assumption of good DT play, good DT play enabled LBs to perform better, for example...pass rush may have justified some of these d-backs (obviously DRC and Jackrabbit are greats, the others need that situation maybe). DT play helps your DEs as well.
Can DT play improve with current roster? The free agent and the draft pick are not big slobbery bastards, just as on O we lack interior emphasis (again suddenly in the case of D).
Its not just that 30lbs here or there, it sounds like teams are taking Snacks out of the game with OL techniques, angles, what have you, attacking as we should be on O.
I still think we can run a 5-0-6 with Kennard or Vernon as the 'extra DL', such that will help vs run and pass
Or Snacks?
Watch those checks cash boys!
I hate everything. Fuck spags too.

Kennard is not a bad LBer either, but he makes very few game changing plays.
Quote:
Is Reese that inept that he could screw that up?
Well, the last time they had a top 10 pick they used it on Ereck Flowers. Does that answer your question?
Last 3 first rounders were Ereck Flowers, Eli Apple and Evan Engram. Any prospects with a first name starting with E for 2018?
Agreed
That falls on Coaching IMO
I hate everything. Fuck spags too.
