Why didn’t we keep running the ball?

PetesHereNow : 10/8/2017 6:10 pm
Up 22-17. Gallman for 7. Pass in flat for loss of two. Sack. Punt.

Up 22-20, Vereen for 3. Pass to Beckham, incomplete, broken ankle for best player. Sack and fumble.

That’s my major issue with BM. He seemingly has no feel for the game. Stop with the slants over the middle that everyone and their grandparents know when it’s coming. Use your halfbacks and tight ends in the passing game. Run the ball when it’s working.
Why was Vereen in
section125 : 10/8/2017 6:12 pm : link
the game after Gallman was tearing up the Chargers and specifically the right side was giving Gallman great big holes..
Probably doesn't have
bluepepper : 10/8/2017 6:12 pm : link
a plan for what happens when the running game is actually working.
Because you can't get blamed for not being able to scheme a run play
jlukes : 10/8/2017 6:13 pm : link
if you avoid running the ball

its similar to why they stuck with Perkins so long
idiotsavant : 10/8/2017 6:16 pm : link
of why they stuck with Flowers so long, or why they let Hart back on the field....did you see the blindness of that sack?

Its like they value "The Plan" or "The Story" more than they value the W/L.

So, that leads back to protecting the top.
It's called complimentary football, dummy.

19 carries for 126 yards today

for Gallman and Darkwa, and yet we barely ran them in the 4th when trying to protect a lead. With three WR already out, then another because of that reluctance to run.

Brutal.
The throw to Gallman might've done better than -2 yards
shockeyisthebest8056 : 10/8/2017 6:23 pm : link
if Eli didn't almost throw it over his head despite absolutely no pressure. It seems that lack of execution comes into play nearly everytime we complain about McAdoo's play-calling... bad throw by Eli, drop by a receiver, o-line shits it's pants. And yeah, we could've just run the ball again.

That's what happens with bad teams.

Granted it was high but it looked to be like the Charger defender would have been there to break it up or stop him for a minimal gain. I thought watching on tv live that Eli intentionally threw it high trying to avoid an interception. I’d love to see it again.

He went away from the run

at times after they had been running well. Then he runs Vereen instead of Gallman. Some puzzling moves.

Nah, had he thrown the ball correctly Gallman likely gains some yardage and has a chance to break a tackle instead of coming down off balance with no chance to make a move.
Heh, I wish I could instantly recall all the folks who were clamoring

For this many slant patterns all because they thought Reuben Randall's suck had more to do with the offense that netted us two super bowls than, you know, Reuben Randall being shitty.

That's the way it looked to me.
Because McAdoo sucks
Matt M. : 10/8/2017 6:40 pm : link
The worst part is that he will probably be given a pass on the rest of the season because of the injuries. So, we are probably looking at another shitty season next year.

"Oh well, lets go back to 11P, and shotgun with Jerrys Kids, cuz, you know, Jerry is the boss, so...you know, job security and all....and we have a system...so..."

Lol. For all the hate Gilbride got on here, when he knew his run game was working, he kept pounding away.
He put vereen in because of experience in the 2 minute drill

I would have stayed with the hot back imho

I understand Vereen in down 27-22. Don’t understand it up 22-20

Gilbride's offense only failed when their OL went to shit. So, instead of building a strong OL they hired an OC to implement the WCO. It was very good for 2 years, but he runs a different offense now that he is HC. There was nothing wrong with Gilbride's offense and this QB running it, as long as they had some semblance of a professional OL.
Why
blueblood'11 : 10/8/2017 6:47 pm : link
Because McAdoo is a dope.

This is one thing I don't get at all about McAdoo. As OC, the offense had numerous inventive ways to get Odell the ball. As HC, everything became as vanilla as humanly possible.
You give Coughlin and Gilbride a tough OL and a defense worth a damn.

And we’re still winning games. They fired them both because the almighty Jerrel Jernigan was underutilized and they made a huge deal about Beckham freaking out on Norman in a game we lost to the eventual NFC champs after being down 35-7.
Agreed

Tho I recall feeling the same way at various times in the TC / KG era

Today the one thing we could count on were positive if not chunk runs but we repeatedly went pass - sometimes 3 straight going 3 and out, sometimes 2 straight after a 5 yd run on 1st, and w/ solid YPC (Darkwa 8-69 & a TD) vs a known weak run Charger D

Add in our WR injuries & their strong pass rush, I was scratching my head all game as well

Still say this offense does not fit Eli's skills period .
He has shined with a decent run game and the ability to
throw downfield .
