For all the raging about the OL

bluepepper : 10/8/2017 7:17 pm
the biggest mis-evaluation the organization made this off-season was on the other side of the ball. We've scored 24-23-22 points the last 3 weeks. If the defense was near-elite like the team thought then we'd be 3-2.

True

Our defense is not very good. Too much blitzing with little success
Landon Colllins as some said here

Being the the next LT. ha ha ha! Mybae the next Pee Wee Herman:. He's been exposed as a make believe!
Fair point Blue ...
short lease : 10/8/2017 7:33 pm : link
but, this offense looks uninspired, bored, and boring.

The whole team looks like they would rather be somewhere else. I see no team fire at all ... on a consistent basis.

Is it me or do these guys looks blasse'? Maybe I am missing something ....?
Now how exactly was the organization supposed to evaluate
GiantFilthy : 10/8/2017 7:34 pm : link
this defense after what they saw last year? As a weakness? No one predicted this and I can't blame them for this defense. This is on the players.
Well at least the coaches should explin

The defense was very good last season but you have to project ahead not just look at the past. It's tough but that's there job. One tip-off might have been that you can't really be a top defense at least not consistently without a real good pass rush. And we didn't have much of a pass rush last season nor did we do anything in the off-season to upgrade in that area.
Last season was a mirage
Bluesbreaker : 10/8/2017 7:46 pm : link
Everything went right last season with a cakewalk schedule and a few OBJ plays that no one else in football could make
some lucky bounces and stayed relatively healthy .
While the offense plodded along all season with zero capacity
for a deep threat or a long run because of the inadequate
O-line . The proof was shown in Pre-Season this offense was in trouble . Well now the team is banged up and they lost there only offensive threat ... 2-14 here we come .
DL cannot generate a conventional passrush
The_Boss : 10/8/2017 7:54 pm : link
Like last season. Our DT situation has regressed. Perhaps Snacks isn’t as effective and/or Tomlinson, Bromley, etc aren’t any good. Our LB’s still suck. And there are serious questions regarding the FS position. Combine that with the countless issues on offense and it might be 2-3 seasons before the NYG are good again.
Yup, but...
trueblueinpw : 10/8/2017 7:59 pm : link
If the offense weren’t so bad the defense might have had a chance to come together. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not happy about the defense, they’ve been terrible. But this offense is utterly and ridiculously bad. The head coach is completely lost. And with the offense lost at sea, it’s not like McAdoo can do anything to help out Spags with whatever is ailing the defense.

Remember too, everyone in the world knew this OL was suspect but we thought the D and some key additions to the skill positions would help. Instead, every single player on this team has gotten worse under McAdoo. It’s stunning. I have no idea what this coaching staff is doing during the week. The team comes out flat, there’s zero imagination in play design, play calls are predictable and the players take dumb penalty after dumb penalty. It’s like they aren’t practicing at all. McAdoo is completely over his head.
This team sucks

Top to bottom, left to right.
Plenty of things going wrong, but don't tell me this oline
Jimmy Googs : 10/8/2017 8:09 pm : link
was helpful today because they gave up pressures in 1 second...
It's a complete fail at almost every level
ChaChing : 10/8/2017 8:12 pm : link
today comparing bad Ds, the Chargers had 5 sacks, 7 TFLs. We had 0 sacks & 2 TFLs vs immobile Rivers no less. That might also say something about our OL even tho at least 2 of those sacks were on Eli

We had 2 takeaways for once, but haven't seemed to get close to too many TOs in prior games, while last year we were decent and made huge plays this preseason (completely fwiw of course)

Eli back to TOs in bad spots, whether or not it's his fault w/ pressure, drops, no run game

Playcall seemed to completely ignore the consistent run success today tho

The only positives were the run game, improved STs, Gallman...??? Really grasping at straws tho
Wrong
KWALL2 : 10/8/2017 8:13 pm : link
It's the OL.

You're blaming the defense after the offense fumbled on the 10 with a few minutes left?

Offense avg 22/game the last 3? That isn't a good number. It puts you in the bottom half of the league. And the reason for it is the OL.
Defense has not been
joeinpa : 10/8/2017 8:22 pm : link
Good no matter how you try to spin it.

They can t get off the field on third down. To think this defense is not a problem would be a real problem going forward.
A team this bad
santacruzom : 10/8/2017 8:48 pm : link
Presents multiple units and phases to rest the blame upon.
Anybody here think the Charger's Tight Ends wouldn't
Jimmy Googs : 10/8/2017 8:55 pm : link
catch a touchdown pass?

Anybody here think Melvin Gordon wasn't going to be the clear cut target when they got close at the end?

The answer is no. But everybody forgot to tell the Giant Linebackers...

I don't blame him foe aspiring to be the next LT but he ha sheen struggling as has the rest of the defense for some reason. And that is alarming and upsetting !
Go Terps takes a lot of shit
Reb8thVA : 10/8/2017 9:10 pm : link
But he is right in the sense that there are tens of millions invested in the DL and they are not generating enough pressure. Even last year much of the pass rushing came from blitzes.
it's not a defense of the OL
bluepepper : 10/8/2017 9:34 pm : link
it's a critique of the organization and their evaluation of the defense. Nobody in the FO thought the OL was going to be good. They thought they could win with a subpar OL because of a real good defense. I bet if you told them the offense would score 20 plus points and have 4th Qtr leads in 3 of the first 5 games, they would be reasonably satisfied and would figure that would be good enough to be in the thick of things, certainly not 0-5.
The criticism of Landon Collins does not do him justice.
idinkido : 10/9/2017 5:53 am : link
Football is a team game. It is very hard for a player to perform at his best when he can't rely on his teammates. It affects reaction time and even judgement. Collins has had his mishaps and also has made big plays. This is the one player on defense that gives 100 % effort and is by far our best defensive player.
spags has a chance here

to be coach of a historically bad defense for the 3rd time in his career.

I would say he is the most ove f2f rated defensive coordinator but there are a ton of frauds out there . Posing as such
The eye test suggests the defense packed it in
aimrocky : 10/9/2017 8:32 am : link
after the offense couldn't put together longer than 90 second series through the first ten quarters of the season. As a whole, this group is very hard to root for, starting with the stubborn, arrogant coach.
