It will be interesting to see how this offseason is handled.
They will be 30 million under the cap. Seems like a lot but consider:
Richburg, Pugh, Casillas, Robinson are free agents. I wouldn't think they bring them back, and there are no young players waiting in the wings (IMO)
OV and JPP will each have a cap hit of 17 million. That 34 million is 20% of the allotted salary cap.
Like I mentioned earlier, cutting/trading JPP creates 5 million in dead money. Cutting/trading OV only gains the Gmen 5 million in space. Then consider you'd be spending resources filling the holes they leave when you already have a team with holes everywhere.
is to start developing (that doesn't mean starting but it does mean backup) Webb as the future QB. That way the Giants can keep Eli one more season. Trade down in RD 1 next year and secure multiple picks. They have to rebuild the Oline and get some Dline depth.
We need to sign guys who fit our scheme and not just guys who have put up numbers elsewhere. Now, that means we need to know who the coaches are so the schemes can be identified. Look at the Patriots, they sign guys like Amendola, Hogan etc. that fit their scheme, not just guys who were big time players elsewhere.
Right now we seem to have a lot of parts but not a whole team.
just signed a massive contrace, and has half a hand. What are they going to get for him, some rolls of tape?
Let's say we get a second for him. Reese is still drafting! I'm sure there's a WR or pass catching TE at Alcorn State he's got his eye on.
The Giants have no core of young, drafted players and bill for the free agent spending has come due. The structural deficiencies will continue to be an issue for this team for a while. Just watch out though, in 2019!
To say he's overpaid at the moment would be an understatement.
Next offseason, trading or cutting him would cost the Giants 5 million in dead cap space.
His contract is a disaster.
