Eli to Jacksonville for 2018 season

Section131 : 10/9/2017 10:46 am
Team isnt Super Bowl caliber and won't be for a while. Eli is a statue behind this brutal o-line. I'm sure Coughin would love to take Eli for his final 2-3 years. We can save some cap space and see what Webb is about. Saves money, can give some to Beckham assuming ankle is ok long term.

NFL is now about mobile QBs that can make plays out of the pocket. Here's the list

Rodgers
Smith
Wilson
Dak
Wentz
Watson
Taylor
Mariotta
Cam
Winston

Don't think Eli is the right fit at QB for Giants anymore
He's going to uproot his family

And waive his NTC to play in Jacksonville. Ok.

Serious question.

Are some of you smoking crack this morning?
Eli has complete control with a NTC.
GiantFilthy : 10/9/2017 10:51 am : link
I believe it would also cost the Giants more in dead cap money next year than what they would actually pay him in 2018 if they trade/release him.
Eli is in control
bluepepper : 10/9/2017 10:56 am : link
only if you think he is okay sitting on the bench this late in his career. Giants can say, you don't like that trade? Fine, here's a clipboard.
Isn't Brees a FA this off-season?
BrettNYG10 : 10/9/2017 10:58 am : link
I think he'd be higher priority for a franchise close to contending. I don't see good landing spots for Eli this year.
Jags are doing fine without him
HomerJones45 : 10/9/2017 10:59 am : link
They have already won as many games as they did all last year. This is a team that hasn't won more than 5 games in a season since 2010. If they finish at .500, they will be on Cloud 9.

For now, they don't need a super qb with the 240 lbs terror in the backfield. They will get another draft under their belts, see if Bortles develops and be ready when Eli becomes a free agent or if the Giants release him if they think they are really ready to contend.
Alex Smith to Jags would be perfect
superspynyg : 10/9/2017 11:04 am : link
They traded up in the first round to get Mahomes. You don't do that and keep Smith. Smith is a good qb who would manage that team right.
Can't
Rong5611 : 10/9/2017 11:05 am : link
I'm not an expert by any stretch, but I think his contract makes it difficult to trade/release him. I thinking he's with us at least one more year.
Weird that there is dead money

when a guy is traded. Why?
Btw Fournette is a beast

Scored one td by vaulting three yards over the DL for a td, then scored another on a 90 yard td where he outran the Pitt DB's.
Why would the Jaguars want to pay
Mike from Ohio : 10/9/2017 11:13 am : link
$22M a year for a 36 year old QB? Are they in some sort of closing championship window they need to take capitalize on?

The signing bonus gets spread out through the entire contract.
If Bortles leads the Jags to playoffs
NYSports1 : 10/9/2017 11:16 am : link
why would the Jags give up anything for Eli?
Also who the hell let Eli
BigBlueDownTheShore : 10/9/2017 11:16 am : link
get a NTC. It's like the only time I have ever seen that in a contract in the NFL.
Winston

If you think there's even a chance the franchise would do that, well, that doesn't speak well of your understanding of reality.
Eli

Also has a no trade clause.
why won't the giants contend next season?

one bad year doesn't mean two.

If you think Johnny will be content in paying $16 MM in cash for Eli to hold a clipboard, you are mistaken. $5 MM roster bonus, $10.5 MM salary, and $500K workout bonus. By the way, the Giants would have 3 days to orchestrate a trade - Eli has $5 MM reasons not waive his NTC. Any team inquiring about another player under contract is tampering.

Shades of a young BJac. TC must have been thinking that when he was drafted.

Fournette is on an entirely different plane than Jacobs, no disrespect to Brandon.

Eli will cost $22.2M in cap space next season if he's on the team vs $12.4M if he's not on the team (i.e. retires, cut, or traded).

BS - Winston won't win any sprints, but he is mobile. He isn't Russell Wilson or even Aaron Rodgers, but he can move and he is pretty big.
ELI IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE
GMAN4LIFE : 10/10/2017 11:16 am : link
Period.
I was just thinking of starting a thread on this exact topic
NoGainDayne : 10/10/2017 8:02 pm : link
this makes too much sense to me.

That defense is looking like one of the best if not the best in the league and Bortles is terrible. Eli never needed star receivers and thrived with play action before the Giants decided to stop committing resources to the running game.

I think a conditional pick like 4th rounder if they miss the playoffs 2nd round if they are in and 1st rounder for the Super Bowl makes a lot of sense.

Time to start the rebuild

Nobody would confuse bortles for good. He was a hair away from getting cut in preseason. If the jags make the playoffs it's not because bortles led them anywhere.

Marrone had said earlier this season when asked how many pass attempts would be ideal for Blake, and he replied "zero". Awesome vote of confidence. Regardless how the season plays out for Jax, any record above .500 is a success. Also, Blake is not what the team wants going forward. They had to pick up his 5th year option as it was a gamble between that and potentially using the franchise tag on him next year if he plays well this season. With no improvement from him, I would not be surprised if they end up pulling him later this year and give him the RG3 treatment so that he doesn't suffer an injury that puts the franchise on the hook for his 5th year option.
