Rodney Harrison: Time for Giants to move on from Eli Manning

Jim Bob Cooter : 10/9/2017 11:43 am
Quote:
During Sunday’s “Football Night in America,” Harrison told millions of TV viewers that the team should finally turn the page on the durable but immobile Manning.

“The Giants have to start thinking about replacing Eli Manning,” Harrison said.

Yes, the Giants offensive line stinks. Harrison called tackle Ereck Flowers “pathetic” and said “there’s no way he should be on NFL roster.”

Quote:
Then there’s Terry Bradshaw treating the proud Giants organization like a laughing stock on “Fox NFL Sunday.” During Sunday’s pregame show, Bradshaw compared the winless Giants to a possum: “They’re dead at home and they get killed on the road,” he guffawed.

NBC's Rodney Harrison: Time for Giants to move on from Eli Manning - ( New Window )
Harrison is right
Mike from Ohio : 10/9/2017 11:48 am : link
The Giants struggles are not primarily his fault, but it is time to rebuild and you don't do that with a 36 year old QB.

And Bradshaw? Nobody takes him seriously. He's become a caricature of himself, which was no great shakes to start with. He isn't in the studio for analysis, he's the court jester.

Eli is playing well, while he is not the future, he still has two productive years left in that arm. Not his fault that the FO didn't think it necessary to upgrade that pathetic OL.
Harrison still butt hurt over that Tyree catch
Sensationalism. It fucking sucks.
NorwoodWideRight : 10/9/2017 11:52 am : link
He said "The Giants have to start thinking about replacing Eli Manning." That doesn't mean, as the article would lead you to believe, you release or trade him.

For the record, I agree with what Harrison said. It's time to start thinking about replacing Eli. It's past time.
I said it on another thread

Yes, the OL is crap, but Eli's immobility is part of the problem too.

So anyone who played in the past that has a valid point is a turd because they are butthurt? Great sense there

But prior to week 1 vs Cowboys, Harrison said the Giants defense is legit dominant and the Giants are a scary team. At that point he was not butthurt and people praised his comment...

I'm tired of this mantra. Eli's mobility was fine when he was a 2 time Super Bowl MVP. Nothing has changed except he doesn't get any time now.
Let's face it,
Doomster : 10/9/2017 12:04 pm : link
there are a lot of options out there, for next season...

Think this OL will be fixed in one season?

Think the defense will be fixed in one season?

We will never get in return, what Eli is worth to a team, that has a good OL, and running game....

If no Eli, who throws to OBj? And what has happened to OBj, this season is possibly a precursor, of what happens when you invest the Farm in a receiver, who may have health issues going forward....

And exactly, who is going to make these decisions? Reese?

You play for the future, or for now.....this hybrid model we have been working with for 6 seasons is not working.....

Maybe you're the outlier, but most people's bodies age and change between the ages of 30 and 36. They don't get more mobile.

It ain't anymore. The game's changing. Unless you're Tom Brady, you need to be able to move in the pocket and run. It's time to move on.
If Eli Is Thinking About His Future
Jeffrey : 10/9/2017 12:13 pm : link
he should take the road his brother took and agree to move on to another team that might have more chance for success in the next two years. The problem is that there are not that many teams with an offensive line that can really protect an immobile QB. Many of them have their QB already. Perhaps the Vikings?
That possum joke

is old and it's supposed be, "they PLAY dead at home..." I think Terry messed it up a little.

Broncos are a good fit .

LOL......do you see much difference in Eli's mobility when he was 30, because I don't.

He even ran for a nice TD run two weeks ago.

He's pretty much the same player, except the team around him blows (no OL, no run game, and poor scheme).
The Flowers comments are tiresome...
2ndroundKO : 10/9/2017 12:40 pm : link
Small sample size but he and Pugh have been our best linemen three weeks straight. He shut Engram down yesterday, which is no small feat. Run game needs work but looks to me like he's building confidence and it shows.
with the upcoming draft
froggerjoe : 10/9/2017 12:44 pm : link
having the potential of being a great QB draft class...a part of me can see the Washington Foreskins cutting Kirk Cousins (after drafting a QB) and signing a just-released Eli to cross the bridge for their newly drafted QB.

Mobility?

You'd need Usain Bolt behind this pathetic line. Eli is the bravest man on the planet!

Unfortunetly that's true. He can't escape anything. And he must lead the league in sack fumbles. He's gonna get hrt in my opinion as season is over.
Eli's the one who providing the defense...
Crispino : 10/9/2017 1:25 pm : link
with fourth quarter leads that they can't hold. Maybe Harrison should be calling for the Giants s to move on from the defense.
I watched what he said live
arniefez : 10/9/2017 1:26 pm : link
it had nothing to do with Eli and everything to do with the Giants are a total mess. He's 100% correct. His point was the Giants are so bad they need to start thinking about the next era of Giants football. It won't get better in the year or two Eli has left.
Why do some people insist
BBelle21 : 10/9/2017 1:29 pm : link
That Eli can’t escape anything when he only just showed it in terrific fashion yesterday on his TD to Odell? That wasn’t even the only time he eleuded pressure to make a great play. And then last week he ran it in a TD. Just stop saying Eli can’t evade pressure because it’s not true.
Btw
BBelle21 : 10/9/2017 1:30 pm : link
Rodney Harrison says some strange stuff on that show. His Eli comment was one of the silliest. It made me wonder how much Giants football he’s been watching this season.
Game is changing quite a bit...
brunswick : 10/9/2017 1:37 pm : link
Eli'a lack of mobility is huge.

His inaccuracy yesterday certainly led to a couple of the WR injuries.

Harrison is right...time to move on from Mr. Sloppy.

Not true. He is more immobile than ever and his ability to throw while rolling out has become borderline comical. It wasn't always like that.
White noise
BlackLight : 10/9/2017 2:18 pm : link
Pretty much the only way Eli isn't on the Giants roster next season if he retires.
Not one throw from Eli led
BBelle21 : 10/9/2017 2:20 pm : link
To those injuries. There are some insane comments here today.
He’s also more mobile
BBelle21 : 10/9/2017 2:20 pm : link
Than in years past.

Watch the helmet catch again (screw you Roidney Harrison). Think 2017 Eli can make a play like that with his feet anymore?

Eli is immoble now. But that play is an example of how Eli in his prime could move when need be.
.
liteamorn : 10/9/2017 2:25 pm : link
Eli has no passing lanes and no time . It's amazing he hasn't been killed back there. Yeah, many of his throws are high, but that line has a LOT to do with it.
Eli is immobile???
BBelle21 : 10/9/2017 2:26 pm : link
Did he not run for a TD last week? Evade defenders for his TD to Odell?
Suck it Harrison...

Well, to be completely fair - the TD to Odell wasn't really a prime example of his mobility, unless standing there and letting the blitzer run right by him makes him look like Randall Cunningham.
Right

Well, that's to be expected since Rivers won the head-to-head yesterday and Roethlisberger beat them to the punch when he suggested he should have retired already.

Big Ben said yesterday, "mayb I don't have it anymore." Chargers could very well be drafting Rivers replacement in next year's draft.
The Giants use the pick on QB.

The QB sits behind Eli for 1 year. Eli retires with dignity.

True...nothing has changed...except for the HC, OC, QB coach, Offensive line personnel, Running backs, TE...
