I know that yesterday isn't a measure of anything, but he was being used much more earlier in the season. Did he screw up? Did opponents take him out of the game? My sense is that his skill set isn't being used to its full advantage in play design and assignments.
he might even be the #2 if Marshall is out.
He had more targets, catches and yards than any other game.
It's only one game.
so I started him... leave it to our inept offense to not exploit it.
Is this offense that bad or does he not get separation. 1st round picks should at least not be invisible.
to feed him the ball as much as possible and hopefully set him up as a core piece moving forward.
Not sure what you mean. This was the only game he never got involved in. He was pretty steadily involved in the previous 4.
The OP makes it sound like he got 15 targets the first two games and hasn't caught a pass since.
Or maybe it doesn't suit him that well. He just looks to my uneducated eye that the things he's being asked to do are not those to which his talent is best suited.
But I'm probably not seeing something.
Over the first 4 games it looked to me like his role was expanding.
I don't know why he didn't see more action yesterday. My guess is the coaches are the problem there.
How do they fail to call several plays to get him the ball in space in every game? There should be screens to him, shuffle passes (like KC does with Kelce), and more of the motion plays we see with Reed in WAS. They have the Reed type plays. We've seen them a few times. They should be called a few times every game. Didn't see it yesterday.
No One is fitting in with this offense.
he's going to have games where he disappears. Doesn't mean he's blameworthy or no good.
that Engram should have been the #2 target opposite Beckham.
Except Ben McAdoo.
This guy was supposed to be a matchup nightmare for linebackers and safeties.
I'm sure that he is...it's just that his head coach has no idea how to make it work.
wondering why we have our elite speed weapon running 4-yd crossing routes in front of a zone defense. Just because the defense is giving you soft spots underneath doesn't mean by design you should run Engram into them. He's not best at breaking away after making the catch with 1-2 defenders coming in hard on him underneath.
His best attribute should be threatening safeties and LBers deep. He should be causing defenses to worry more about him getting behind them and less used as a safety valve target underneath zone coverage.
0-4. Losing to an 0-4 team flying from the West Coast. 3 of our top 4 WR's down and we still aren't drawing up plays to Engram.
This is the 1st round TE we just HAD TO HAVE over OL help. This team is truly sickening, it's almost unbelievable how bad they botched everything.
he is inept schematically for 3 years. Why this comes as any surprise is scary.
You could see something intensely angry bubbling under Coughlin's skin when he got axed. Almost like it killed his love of the Giants. He knew he was the only guy who knew WTF he was doing and didn't like the parting shots. He knew how ridiculous it was choosing McAdoo over him. He knew how much cap space they were going to have. He bit his tongue....barely. Wouldn't shake Mara's hand though.
that's what I think too. His best attributes seem to be long speed and hands and I'd like to see more of him getting the ball in space rather than tight coverage. Do you think Big Mac knows how to use him, or did he get saddled with a pick that is sub-optimum for his style of football?
and can't figure out how to use him. Also with running game working, shouldn't that have opened middle of the field for tight ends?
are like shiny sports cars that we are trying to drive over rough and muddy roads... Every now and then we see the speed but more likely we can't get it going very well or its very slow going. With no Oline, very little running except against the worst run defense in the league and our sports cars might as well stay in the garage.
A guy who can go down the seam and eat cover 2 where there is a gap between Ss. That's why we allegedly got him.
we have so so TEs getting deep on our D yet we cant seem to do get anything close to similar results out of Engram and his 4.4 speed.
Is he getting open and Eli is not finding him, or has he been covered?
Development is not linear. And, his play caller and entire unit are inconsistent, mistake-prone, and struggling.
The head coach has no idea how to utilize his first round draft choice
