Is it possible Flowers becomes a serviceable LT this year?

adamg : 10/9/2017 5:54 pm
Asking B in ALB, Sy, and the OL people of BBI here (and everyone). He graded out as our second best player per PFF yesterday. Is it possible he turns a corner this year and we have fewer holes on the OL by years end?

Or was yesterday just a mirage? Or does PFF just not know wtf happened yesterday?
he took a step forward

Seemed to play well

Unlike Hart.
If he goes into next year as the starting LT
robbieballs2003 : 10/9/2017 6:04 pm : link
Then the whole new staff should be fired before OTAs start.
Like the Giants D

But the Chargers don't have shitty DEs. Bosa and Ingram are awesome players. Having a good game against those ER should bode well, no?

I watched Flowers on most plays yeTerday

He was a positive
He's going to be moved next season
B in ALB : 10/9/2017 6:11 pm : link
is my guess at this point. He still struggles in space, his feet are still playing catch up, but he's been a bit better. Once he engages there is no escaping, his strength is undeniable.

But moving forward I am leaving toward the RT or G camp. Provided that a better option is uncovered via FA. I don't think a LT currently exists in the draft that would be worthy of the position from which the Giants will likely draft - ie top 5.
He’s no longer worthy of whipping boy status

So there’s that

I still think Denver forces Eli into early retirement - but that’s another
Story
Thanks B

Agreed. - id be comfortable with him at RG and there is no shame in that. I wish we had seen more Richburg this year, then I would be cpmfortable saying, "re-sign Richburg and Pugh, move Flowers to RG and then draft/sign tackles."

Signing/drafting to starting tackles in one offseason should be easy enough, right?
Von Miller and Denver's front seven will
B in ALB : 10/9/2017 6:28 pm : link
be a real challenge for Flowers and the entire OL. Again, they're just way too predictable in the running game and rely a ton on that trap play from both guards. And now PA is minimized because of the WR situation.

But Gallman had done a GREAT job being patient and letting the running lanes develop, then picking his spot and exploding. I saw both Flowers and Pugh get pushed back at the POA and the run was stuffed. They had better luck when Fluker was in and they ran right. The trap worked well with Pugh to that side.

The Giants have to run the ball this week and find the TEs. Or the line will start to wilt quickly and Flowers will start that lonely ride again where he loses all confidence.
Being an elite LT for Flowers is not in the cards
xman : 10/9/2017 6:43 pm : link
Maybe he could achieve average but maybe the ceiling would be higher for him as a G? So then who is the new LT? It didn't take the Giants this long to move William Roberts from T to G where success was achieved out of failure.
It should be a priority
hitdog42 : 10/9/2017 6:46 pm : link
To see what flowers can do at rt at some point this year- or at guard.

The giants need to know what spots they have and don’t have.

Left tackle he still has to hold too much when he doesn’t get his hands extended
As a follow-up question...

(to the same named posters and to others who know) - should we give Pugh a shot at LT before he hits FA?
I have hope that Flowers can be a damn good RT
Jay on the Island : 10/9/2017 7:52 pm : link
Similar to Kareem McKenzie. He has been better at LT but he will never thrive there.
He's
AcidTest : 10/9/2017 8:09 pm : link
not a LT, probably also not a RT. Guard or bust.

I am no expert on the OL, but the thing that has also bothered me is when he dips his head and takes his eye off of the defender

It's G or cut. My guess is cut.
That's actually a big fear of mine....
BillKo : 10/10/2017 9:27 am : link
...that he shows some progress and they decide to keep him there.

He needs to be moved, you aren't winning anything of value (playoff games, Super Bowl) with him at your left tackle.

I think they need to move him inside, but also draft for his replacement in case it's just totally not going to work.

I think that would certainly raise his value. But of course, Pugh probably realizes he is already the best OL on the team, and that in fact gives him great value in regards to the Giants bringing him back.

I'd love to see Pugh go to LT, and Flowers be tried at another position.

I know you don't want to experiment, especially with Eli back there, but it could even be something where Flowers comes into the game mid-game and they get a pulse of what he can do.
As the season has moved forward....the OL is not the issue
AnnapolisMike : 10/10/2017 9:34 am : link
we had feared. Injuries and a struggling D are my concerns.

The rest of this season is basically training camp for the Giants. Hoping they can develop what they have and dump the unneeded parts.

False start.
He's not an LT, and at this point I am not

even sure he should be playing. He is a first round bust, that is the only thing I'm sure about.

But don't take it from me, check out a review of him and his linemates from the Tampa Bay game:
