Two moves that need to be made

UberAlias : 10/9/2017 9:28 pm
#1 - Cut Geno and insert Webb as the backup. Then fill the roster spot with someone else. There was a time when Geno made some sense. He was the veteran backup you would bring in if you needed to win a couple games to endure an Eli injury. But at this point, he serves zero purpose except keeping Webb free of any pressure. But at least if he is the backup you can get some looks to evaluate him and if Eli did go down there is less than zero reason to bring in Geno.

#2 - Bench Flowers today (insert Pugh at LT), but give him from now until after the bye week to work out at left guard and see if he can take the spot. The guy is a liability but may be better suited for OG. You may salvage something from him after all, but not at OT. Moving him to RT won't help much -he's still playing in space and the pass rushers are just as fast. At guard he can stay on the left side but box him in and see what he can do. The team needs to know what they have in him and McAdoo needs a wild card from somewhere. At this point Flowers is a huge liability and there is nothing to lose --in a best case you resurrect a top 10 pick.
what the obsession with the 53rd roster spot held by Geno?

the player that gets it is going to be a scrub that is inactive most games

I didn't say you do it for that reason, you dope. You do it because Geno serves zero purpose and have every motivation to give opportunities to get a look at Webb.
If Eli went down
UberAlias : 10/9/2017 9:44 pm : link
You would clearly want the opportunity to go to Webb so you could evaluate him. Playing Geno gives you zero benefit. It is an obvious move.
the giants dont operate that way
ron mexico : 10/9/2017 9:45 pm : link
they will do their best to win each game. Geno gives the team a better chance than Webb.
Nobody can say Geno gives them the better chance to win
UberAlias : 10/9/2017 9:50 pm : link
That remains to be seen.
Flowers is the least of our problem right now

The right side is far more of an issue..
I used to think Flowers was a

great RG prospect, but I've changed my mind. His run blocking is surprisingly bad. I'd still bet he's a better G than T, but he's not a good football player.
Geno is the scout QB in practice
George from PA : 10/9/2017 10:10 pm : link
They are not going to ask Webb to run other teams plays.....

They want him to get their plays down pat

You want to put Webb in with this crappy oline? How can you evaluate

him if he running for his life?

with flowers being at the top of the list. He may not be a legit LT in this league but he is our 2nd best offensive lineman. He is at least 4th on the list of things to do right now. Bobby Hart needs to be the first one gone but we have maybe 6 healthy guys for 5 spots.
Benching Flowers
nyynyg : 10/9/2017 11:01 pm : link
At this point makes no sense. Giving him reps to come around when the games matter and then don't give him reps when they do not? How does that make sense for us?

I could buy into trying out Wheeler at LT and giving Flowers a go at RT or hell with it, try him at RG.
You know I agree..
prdave73 : 10/10/2017 1:01 am : link
It's a start. Trying out flowers at the Guard position might be a good option, the problem is I really think this GM and HC are inept and down right dumb. If you think about how many franchises would have made this move if they had Flowers?? Probably all. This is the part that makes you think this Organization has some real deep issues. The fact they have ignored and not tried to do this yet is insane..
This I'd be into

Very good post. Everybody chirping about "seeing what we have in Webb" when I would like to see what Wheeler has to offer us. Kid looks decent as far as feet and maybe playing against some tough comp might bring the best out of him. Might have our LT of the fiture already on the roster.

Same for Flowers. Okay, he was tried at LT, it didnt work out. Im very sorry. Leonard Davis made the shift and he was a monster at G. Maybe see how that size and strength translates to where it can really be used.

Try Flowers at RT and RG with
NoGainDayne : 10/10/2017 1:56 am : link
in different pairs. Hart, Jones, Fluker. Try Hart at RG. See if either of them are worth a damn at those positions.

He hasn't practiced at G. He's not getting it done at LT and is clearly not the answer there. His best shot to make an impact is at OG. So I'm giving him a shot. You can't just insert him at G because they didn't give him any work there.
I don't think the Giants
Simms11 : 10/10/2017 6:41 am : link
are going to experiment now. They want to win some games and changes like putting Flowers in on the right side or Wheeler at LT do not give them the best chance of being successful. I do agree, however, that these moves might be given consideration in the last few games of the year. Giants could treat those games as an extension of pre-season if you will
You forgot to add

Fire McAdoo at seasons end
Whose decision

I’m just wondering if the coaches are deciding who plays where or it comes from above.

The purpose for the rest of this season is evaluating players to see iwho is part of the solution. That absolutely HAVE to have an answer about Webb heading into the next draft. Flowers was a high pick. Like Scherf in Wash he may be suited for G and be good there. This will require organizational and management skills that so far neither Mac or Reese have shown. This is he best way to make this season a positive (sadly not winning meaningless games). I forgot Pugh at LT. If he can play it then re sign him. Wheeler at LT. If he shows he can play it (yes he needs to be stronger) technique wise than that solves what has been a multi year problem. If Mac wants to prove he is the man going forward then he needs to go in this direction. If we learn NOTHING and go 3-13 this season is a total waste and a disaster.
Flowers did a decent job against the Chargers
jeff57 : 10/10/2017 8:06 am : link
Bench Hart.
Here’s another I forgot
Dave on the UWS : 10/10/2017 8:10 am : link
Hart to OG. He was projected there before his draft and the Giants played him at tackle out of necessity. I would like to see a line of Wheeler-Flowers- Richburg-Hart- Pugh. That would give us some answers.
Enough with the “he played well against the Chargers “ crap.
Dave on the UWS : 10/10/2017 8:15 am : link
We won’t win with “serviceable” we need more- look at his skill set it screams OG. Teams around the league, draft gurus etc all said he might be an excellent guard. Only the Giants were too stubborn to consider it. We need to find out. I could give a crap that he was selected 9th. If he became an All pro guard than nobody would complain.
Don't think there is any need for "now' moves
TheMick7 : 10/10/2017 8:21 am : link
If our record continues to get worse & worse,I believe Webb will see considerable time as going into the draft as they will need an evaluation of his play as whether or not they go QB w/their #1.Smith being on the roster doesn't enter into the equation.

I think the same thing applies to Wheeler & perhaps,Bisnowaty. There will be in-season evaluations of many of the younger players going into the 2018 draft. It still seems strange that a month ago we were Super Bowl hopefuls & now we're in the running for the #1 pick. But,it is what it is & they need to adjust to our new reality.

The Giants being the Giants,I think McAdoo is back next year. Wouldn't be my choice but the injuries this year will certainly buy him some time. I think the long term question is next year-Do we retool for the run we were supposed to make this year or do we blow it up,go young & start over?
Not sure they want to put Webb out there behind a struggling OL
JonC : 10/10/2017 9:20 am : link
Also, his presence on the roster isn't going to preclude the Giants from drafting a QB in the 1st round, if that's the eventual situation.

They're in a tough spot with Flowers, and I don't think he's mobile enough to pull and trap consistently at OG.

Not really - the right side was clearly better at run blocking then the left. I'd say equally inept at pass blocking.

If there's a QB in the first round that they are in love with,I agree, they'll probably take him. However,OL or not, they need to take a look at Webb & how he plays in NFL situations this year before going into the draft. If,and it's a big if,they feel he is definitely their future QB, they have many other areas they could address w/the assumptive high picks!
Eli just had his neck examined after last game.
Heisenberg : 10/10/2017 10:47 am : link
Reducing the number of QBs is a bad idea.
even if Webb gets some burn
JonC : 10/10/2017 10:55 am : link
it will be very limited, and it still won't likely factor much into their draft decision.
It's also more likely they stick with Eli
JonC : 10/10/2017 11:07 am : link
Even if they draft a QB #1, Eli will still be here next season starting. If there's no QB they covet, then it could get really interesting because it doesn't appear there's a franchise DE or LT ready to rise to the top of the 2018 draft as yet.
