Worth calling the Browns about Gordon?

not.
Hell no
BigBlueShock : 10/10/2017 10:36 am : link
Why? Bring in another guy with character issues to a team already in the verge of imploding? Yikes
we are going to play the young guys and hopefully end with a good pick
mphbullet36 : 10/10/2017 10:37 am : link
no point in winning meaningless games the rest of the way. Give the young guys like eagan/rudolph/king

no need to go after vet options at this point. Better of just sucking and getting a top pick. And we really don't have to tank. Our schedule is brutal we play a ton of people off there bye weeks. We will be 0-7 after our bye..and have a brutal schedule to finish. I don't even know if we will be favored to win one game the rest of the way with OBJ out for the season.
play the young guys
Giants86 : 10/10/2017 10:42 am : link
get that great draft pick and hopefully have someone other than Reese making that pick.
I would.
pjcas18 : 10/10/2017 10:42 am : link
if he doesn't cost much and was willing to sign an incentive laden contract extension, it can't hurt.

what's the worst that could happen? he's suspended or injured.

so?

Upside is far greater.
And as far as the "young"
pjcas18 : 10/10/2017 10:43 am : link
guys, Gordon is younger than Tavarres King.

Sure, why not.
guitarguybs12 : 10/10/2017 10:43 am : link
So what, he doesn't work out and we go from shitshow to double-shitshow? Big Whoop.

Or maybe he has changed and we land a potential superstar 26 year old WR.

I really don't care at this point.

This was essentially my thought.
He wouldn't be the first
Metnut : 10/10/2017 10:44 am : link
guy to have a substance issue and turn his life around. His upside is a top 5 WR in NFL.

I guess the questions are (1) how much compensation would Cleveland want for him, (2) how many years of control under a cheap cap number would you get him for? (2) is important because if you're going to take a flier on a guy like this, you at least want to have the bigtime upside rather than him restablish his value and leave right away.
There is no downside at this point, other than compensation.
Brown Recluse : 10/10/2017 10:46 am : link
Season is already in the tank.

And a possible Beckham/(clean)Gordon combo next season minus Ereck Flowers sounds fun.
No

Dan, with all due respect, they are 0-5. Why trade for anybody?

Let the season play out.

My thought process is talent wise he's a potential dominant partner for OBJ. If the price were low enough pick wise it might be worth gambling on a 26 year old player. At 26 he conceivably could have 4-5 years of top level play if his head is on straight. Beckham + Gordon would be a nice way to begin an offense for our next QB. I was more just intrigued by the video than anything else.
Being 0 - 5
pjcas18 : 10/10/2017 10:51 am : link
means you can't try and improve your team for the future?

You have to sit there like it's a death sentence and do nothing?

a Gordon trade wouldn't necessarily be about 2017, it could be about the future.

I'm not suggesting it has to happen, or even should necessarily, but I would be fine with it and as stated I see more upside than downside depending on the cost.
Lets
DanMetroMan : 10/10/2017 10:53 am : link
not lose track of the fact the guy had a season of 87 catches for 1,646 yards (over 14 games with a shitty qb no less).
There's a better chance
JonC : 10/10/2017 10:53 am : link
he's out of football in the near future, it makes no sense to plug that nutjob into a chaotic locker room lacking leadership.
The Giants stunk
fivehead : 10/10/2017 11:12 am : link
With Odell and Marshall in the lineup, so bringing Gordon in won't solve anything.
for the right price (5th or lower)

Marshall is washed up.

There might have never been a WR core with the talent that a Beckham-Gordon one would have.
I like the idea because the cost should be low
Mike from Ohio : 10/10/2017 11:17 am : link
but I do wonder how pairing him and OBJ together would work. I'd love to see OBJ surrounded by some high character guys who could help him mature, but those guys likely won't have the same upside as a guy like Gordon.

Interesting idea, but largely moot because he is not the kind of guy the Giants would sign anyway.
Fantastic move
Sackrecord92 : 10/10/2017 11:18 am : link
Let's see what he has left. Smart move for 2018.
.
arcarsenal : 10/10/2017 11:20 am : link
Gordon has been away from the game for quite some time now. I'd question whether or not he's still got it even if he's still young.

I guess there's no real risk to a move like this, but it's not something I could see the Giants doing.
The problem is he's such a remote longshot
jcn56 : 10/10/2017 11:26 am : link
that he's worth nothing in a trade - so why would the Browns do it?

At this point they're better off retaining his rights to see if he ever comes back to do anything of note than they are taking a 7th rounder for them.
if it means trading draft picks, I'm out. They are likely to be
Victor in CT : 10/10/2017 11:28 am : link
top 6 in every round.

Sure, try and improve. Why not try guys like Shephard (when he returns) or Perkins, Lewis, King in the return role? See what Lewis and King can do in a full time WR role? or heaven forbid, play 2 or more of the talented TEs they have at the same time and move them around, see if they can help the OL in the running game and create mismatches in the passing game? Let's see if McAdoo is capable of running anything other than that shit "11" formation. Let's see if he can rally the troops and at least keep the team focused and playing hard. The last 11 games should be an audtion of sorts for him too to see how he handles adverstiy. There are ways to try and improve without taking on somebody elses headaches.

My biggest fear here is that they now start to use the injuries as an excuse for this disaster. It's already showing up in some of the papers.
LOL, Gordon like Jason from Friday the 13th
ZogZerg : 10/10/2017 12:12 pm : link
he just doesn't Die!!

And, people keep wanting to draft him in fantasy...

It's funny to watch people continue to add/drop him speculatively in fantasy leagues every year. I have friends who just can't let this guy go.

The mere mention of him possibly playing again and someone adds him immediately.. only to realize he won't be playing any time soon.
since we're on the subject....

But in a new documentary on Uninterrupted, the athlete-driven site started by LeBron James and his business partner, Maverick Carter, Gordon reveals that his drug problems went way beyond weed.

Ive used alcohol on many, many occasions, Xanax on many occasions, cocaine several occasions, marijuana most of my life, codeine, cough syrup, methazine is very prevalent where Im from, Gordon says. Its what I grew up using."

So yeah, he's not just a guy who likes the occasional bong rip.
who cares about his past? and to be honest his future?
pjcas18 : 10/10/2017 12:55 pm : link
I don't care if he's high as a kite 24/7 as long as he can play football at a high level and not get busted he can be on my team.

of course you'd think if he was high 24/7 passing a test would be hard, but my point is a big Jay Cutler....I don't care.
he seems to have had some trouble with the whole
Greg from LI : 10/10/2017 12:56 pm : link
"not getting caught" part in the past though, no?

Right, in the past. That's why if you were to consider acquiring him it would not be for anything substantial.

Probably moot, Giants wouldn't do it. Patriots possibly would.
