NFT: Richmond Coliseum parking advice needed

davek3698 : 10/10/2017 11:14 am
Taking my teenage son to see Foo Fighters Saturday night at the Richmond Coliseum. Never been there before. Any advice on parking in the area? Thanks.
It won't be a problem.

There's a lot of street parking, and several pay lots.
Check this out, too....

just popped up in my twitter feed:

Awesome, thanks Britt

Any good restaurants close by you could recommend (keeping in mind a 14 year old boy)?
Yeah, tons. What do you guys like, and what are you looking to spend?
Britt in VA : 10/10/2017 11:31 am : link
Also, where are you coming from?

How close do you want to be?

Also, be advised that the coliseum is a crumbling dump. Just don't have high expectations for the venue.
Coming from DC

Budget is open. Boys weekend. Had to get tix through stubhub, so financial prudence is already out the window. His palate is pretty limited to burgers, Mexican or Italian.
I mean, there are a bunch of good restaurants just a couple of blocks
Greg from LI : 10/10/2017 11:38 am : link
south on Grace St, but I don't know that many of them would appeal to your son. Maybe Secret Sandwich Society.

Capital Ale House might work, it's a steaks and burgers kind of place, but it's a bit further away, maybe 8 blocks or so.
Are you staying in Richmond overnight?
Britt in VA : 10/10/2017 11:39 am : link
Mexican: En Su Boca on Boulevard near the Diamond

Burgers: Capital Ale House on Main Street
here's the menu for SSS

En Su Boca is a little further away...

but it's a straight shot down Broad Street. This is where I would recommend.

Also, across the street practically from En Su Boca, Boulevard Burgers and Fries. I'd pick one of these. They're on your way in from DC and right off the interstate, then an easy drive to the Coliseum.
En Su Boca is kind of far from the coliseum
Greg from LI : 10/10/2017 11:42 am : link
It's also overpriced with a rude waitstaff, but that's a different argument.

Anyway, I was assuming that you wanted to eat within walking distance of the show - yes/no?

If they're coming from DC they can get off 95 at Boulevard and be right there, then a straight shot down Broad to the Coliseum. Five-ten minute drive.

Scott's Addition way more happening and exciting for a Saturday night. Downtown will be dead, but I agree depends on if they want to walk or not.

Secret Sandwich Society is okay. I ate there last time I went to the national.

Another place downtown is Juan Gonzalez, right across from Secret Sandwich Society. Mexican/Asian Fusion.
Wong Gonzalez, that is.

Eh
Greg from LI : 10/10/2017 11:49 am : link
If I'm getting off at Boulevard for Mexican, I'd just go a bit further down the street to Chicken Fiesta. It's not the most varied menu, but the food is excellent, you get plenty for your money, and instead of sneering hipsters you have very friendly staff.

Chicken Fiesta is awesome and I've been going there for years since they opened their very first one on Midlo Turnpike.

That said, it's in a building that was formerly a dairy queen and has zero atmosphere, and this is a boys night out with his 14 year old son before a Foo Fighters concert.
Former Dairy Queen?
Greg from LI : 10/10/2017 12:14 pm : link
Ummm, do you really want to get into what En Su Boca used to be? hahahaha....

A lot more exciting for a 14 year old boy, wouldn't you agree? :)
anyway, another option if you're not against eating a short drive away

Britt mentioned Boulevard Burgers, which is decent, but I like Citizen's burgers better. It's not far away either.

Yep, Citizen Burger is great, I love it, and if you're in Cary Town, another option is Burger Bach.

Thanks guys

driving back after the concert. I waited too long to book a hotel, and all the ones close to the coliseum were already full.
Lots of good option here, dave....

Rappahannock is great, highly recommend, but may not suit his 14 year old's appetite for burgers and mexican.
Rappahannock on the higher end, a little more upscale...
Britt in VA : 10/10/2017 1:16 pm : link
if you choose to go that route, there is also always Tarrant's and Comfort.
yeah, I don't see Rappahannock as a favorite for teenagers
