Davis Webb

Thinblueline : 10/10/2017 4:14 pm
Should the Giants start giving him playing time to get a better idea what they have in him? At the rate we are going we'll have a shot at drafting the top QB in this years draft.... If Webb can show he's a player we would be more comfortable to trade back for multiple picks to build our O-line...
Probably

but you know if Eli gets hurt, we're going to see the ex-Jet.
it probably

won't happen until the Giants are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. and it's probably better that it happens in a low pressure home game environment against a weaker opponent rather than a nationally televised game against a difficult defense with the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th string receivers on the depth chart.
Wish they would

Once we're eliminated, however, I don't see Eli getting benched
Who's he going

to throw to?
The same guys

he threw to in preseason.....
Webb's presence creates an interesting problem...

With all the name QBs in next years draft, and the Giants most likely having an early pick, it sure would be nice to know if this guy can play and can be the next up when Eli is done. If he can play, we can ignore the QBs and go after much needed OL or other.
Eli shouldn't
joeinpa : 10/10/2017 4:30 pm : link
Be benched. What kind of way is that to treat a guy who has meant so much to this franchise.
Don't see that for Webb this year
BillT : 10/10/2017 4:32 pm : link
It's a red shirt year for him and I think they'll stick to that. It's probably what best for his development and possible future with this team.

AcidTest : 10/10/2017 4:32 pm : link
won't see the field unless Eli is hurt, which is unfortunately a real possibility. Smith would come in first, but Webb could replace him at some point.

Assuming Webb doesn't play, the Giants will have the most important decision since 2004, namely whether to stay with him or draft a QB in the first round.

Oh, and this, too. In spades.
I don't
Thinblueline : 10/10/2017 4:33 pm : link
Think they should do it in the next few weeks but let's face it we couldnt win with our starting WRs we sure in hell aren't going to win with back ups. I'm not saying not to start Eli just would like to see him get a few series a game... How can it hurt?

Like Eric says it won't happen unless Eli gets hurt and then they would play Smith which makes 0 sense to me... I'm just a fan what do I know.
Tell me why they were so fixated
Bluesbreaker : 10/10/2017 5:44 pm : link
on Josh Johnson he was terrible no way were gonna win
long term with either one . Unless Webb was so bad with the
playbook or something he should have seen more time .
Too friggen late now .
If we're 2-8 with four games left,
CT Charlie : 10/10/2017 6:08 pm : link
I think Webb should see playing time in the second half of games that are blowouts. We need to assess him under fire, in order to inform our decisions in the draft. Four games won't tell the whole picture, but they'll tell us more than a season or two of practices.

Oh FFS, the team still has to figure out their future. They wouldn't be benching him as a punitive action. They can approach it like the preseason and let Eli play the 1st quarter and let Webb come in for the rest of the game, if they wanted to do so.

The fact is, Eli is 36 and has two years remaining on his contract. It's unlikely that he's going to be around beyond his current contract. They can handle it diplomatically and still see what they have in Webb.
According to some on here

he's worth passing on a QB in the first round in next year's draft. If he's that good, he should get some starts.

No, read my post. I said we need to see what we have in Webb before we run off and use our #1 on another QB. The guy has the stats and size too, just like them. The difference is we already have Webb. If he isn't the right guy then we can draft a QB to be the future, either next year or the year after.
If the Giants start Webb they are saying Eli is done!
SterlingArcher : 10/10/2017 6:23 pm : link
They will no start Webb then start Eli, that is no how it works.

Agee but there would be nothing more futile than Geno leading this current group. At least Webb gives fans something to tune in for.
I agree with the depth chart that has Geno behind Eli...
DonQuixote : 10/10/2017 9:19 pm : link
...that is, while to objective is to win games and compete for the division.

Now that the objective is more about player development, I would bump Webb past Smith. It seems a little unfair to Geno, who has skills, but it seems necessary in case the Giants are drafting top 5.

We need to see what this kid can do. Maybe not this week, but we need to see him in more then 1 or 2 games. Any blow out he should play at this point.
