For those wanting a QB with our first pick (Darnold, Rosen)

superspynyg : 10/11/2017 12:54 pm
We should probably start watching their games (especially ones against good matchups) carefully.

USC plays ND in less that 2 weeks. While ND is not a top 5 team, they have a much better defense than last season. According to ESPN the Irish are favored to win (not sure I agree) but that will be a good test against Rosen and UCLA in November.

As for Rosen he has games vs top 5 Washington, Utah, and Cal.

I personally want Penn State RB Saquon Barkley with our first pick (which I believe will either be pick 3 or 4). I will be paying attention to him very closely.
I'm an advocate for Barkley too

Then scout them and let us know what their strengths and weaknesses are.
1. are you part of the NYG scouting team?
giants#1 : 10/11/2017 1:00 pm : link
If yes, you suck at evaluating OL talent! If no, what difference does it make if you watch these guys closely or not?

2. They've played 5 games. Way too early to predict where they finish up draft order wise.
RB figures well down the list
JonC : 10/11/2017 1:00 pm : link
unless he grades out far beyond the premium positions NYG tends to focus on.
If they are picking in the top 5
Jay on the Island : 10/11/2017 1:02 pm : link
Then they need to come away with a franchise QB. If that means trading up then so be it. One QB that intrigues me is Josh Allen.
The Giants schdule
blueblood : 10/11/2017 1:05 pm : link
combined with the fact they have been terrible on offense now for a season and half PLUS they lost their top three WR's, two of them definitely for the year, and a defense that is not playing lights out.. and a MUCH tougher schedule than last year, AND an offensive line which is NOT good, does not bode well for the Giants finishing with a good record.

Out of the remaining schedule I see three possible wins and even those are suspect because they are all on the road against West Coast teams.

This team can EASILY be winless at the bye week.

Rosen's

mechanics are near perfect, and seems to have some balls on him. Darnold seems to be more of the full package, with more leadership qualities.

I am a big fan of Rosen. If the Giants had the #1 pick he would be my choice. I am very intrigued by Allen's upside.

That is my motto for the rest of the year. While I acknowledge it is risky to not take one of these QB's, I also believe that Barkley is a generational talent. You sign 1-2 lineman, draft another OL along with Barkley. Pair that with Odell, Shepard and Engram, and you have the base for a VERY good offense.
QB

and a mauler rounds 1-2 would be extremely ideal if we land in the top 3-4.

Agreed give me a QB and a LT or top G and I would be very happy.
Love Barkley

but taking him instead of Rosen or Darnold would be brutal.
would take
mdc1 : 10/11/2017 1:16 pm : link
Darnold out of the bunch, Rosen lacks the emotional intelligence needed at this level, maybe he should stay in college for a while, Mayfield can't see open receivers as evidence in that mind boggling loss over the weekend unless he was on the take.

pass on running backs as we have no oline and they are a commodity now. not many Lynch's out there that do not need a line but they only last a few years.
God
ryanmkeane : 10/11/2017 1:16 pm : link
are we getting excited for the first 3 rounds of the draft already? Yikes. Is it too early to start drinking on a Wednesday?
Barkley
ryanmkeane : 10/11/2017 1:18 pm : link
behind a competent OL would be a sight to see. Problem is, we are 3 OL away from being competent.
They're probably gonna win just enough
David B. : 10/11/2017 1:18 pm : link
to screw themselves out of a blue chip QB falling in their lap. But if they can get one -- even by moving up, they probably should.

Davis Webb was a nice idea when they didn't expect to be drafting high in 2018. And hopefully they won't be drafting in the top 10 again so soon. So if the stars align, now would be the time to draft the next Franchise QB. And have the luxury of not having to play him immediately.
O- Line

Take Cam Robinson...nevermind that was last year. Kidding aside- he's been great for the Jags this year. Imagine signing Whitworth, drafting Robinson and grabbing another Olinemen in the 3rd round. I suspect this season would have gone a lot differently...

And trying EF at RG just to see if he has a future in the NFL at all. But even just sitting him...that group is probably at least 1-3 ... likely 2-2...and have a hope....even with the WR injuries.

Need to be wary of Rosen's party boy reputation. His interviews are going to be quite important for him.

Its too early to be evaluating QBs
NNJ Tom : 10/11/2017 1:45 pm : link
You have to wait until the end of November when the games really matter. That's when you'll find the real players and the guys with stones enough to play in NY.

I like what I see in Darnold
gmen9892 : 10/11/2017 1:47 pm : link
Rosen has some nice tools too, but I think Darnold has the better personality for NY. Rosen could be a rocky experience, and he takes a LOT of chances.
This USC grad picks..
LostinLA : 10/11/2017 1:50 pm : link
Rosen. Watching him since High School. Competitive as hell.. maturing as all teens do... Projecting to the NFL... he will be the most accurate, most Rodgers like. Will light up NYC.

I would love to have a QB who can move and make plays with his feet.
Vincenzo : 10/11/2017 2:02 pm : link
I love Eli and everything he has done here, but we are at a pretty big disadvantage compared to some of the other teams around the league.

While the majority of the recent Super Bowl winners have been more traditional pocket passers (Russell Wilson being the exception and Rodgers being a unique beast), you can see the trend beginning to change.

Watching guys like Deshaun Watson, Dak, Rodgers, Cam, Tyrod Taylor, and Mariota make plays with their feet makes you wonder how many drives would've continued and how many more first down conversions we might have.

You'd have to think a mobile QB benefits Odell as well.

Seth : 10/11/2017 2:10 pm : link
If Reese gets canned wouldn't it be in the Giants best interest to do it very soon after the season ends so that a new regime can evaluate the teams needs in advance of the draft? I would hope we don't follow the NY Knicks model of having Jackson handle the draft only to fire him days later.

to the "draft a quarterback" talk. I've paid a small amount of attention.

If the Giants picked Barkley (assuming they'd be high enough on the board to do that), are ALL these hot-shot "franchise QBs" going to be gone by the 2nd pick?

Trading Down
Sammo85 : 10/11/2017 2:39 pm : link
Only way I'd stomach it, is if it is an absolute haul.

We're talking 2-3 1st rounders, and multiple picks in the 2nd/3rd round range over a few years.

Only teams that have this ammo coming up are the Bills and Browns I believe and the Bills are hurting their draft position.

Trading out of a premium spot, down a few spots is risky, as you could lose one of the players you still desire, and often the return is just a couple mid-round picks.

Well the team once again has considerable holes to fill. In no particular order:
- 2 to 4 spots on the OL
- Future QB (although Webb may be the answer)
- CB
- RB
- WR
- LB
- FS
- Edge rusher
The Giants need to play Webb
GeofromNJ : 10/11/2017 3:51 pm : link
They may already have a Carson Wentz. If so, they'll have the opportunity to take a premier pass rusher, offensive tackle, wide receiver, center, cornerback, or linebacker. I would not spend a top 5 pick on a running back or a tight end.
Rudolph
Marty866b : 10/11/2017 6:43 pm : link
Might be a systems quarterback .Way too risky to pick very high.
