Rumors every year its his last in New Orleans...I for one would love to see him here but it drives me crazy the defense in NO has been awful since 2010.
The Saints have been a mess for a while now. Brees is really the only thing that has been keeping that team from being abysmal. But in a lot of ways, they're like us in that the team just hasn't seemed to get right over the last handful of years.
Since 2011, they have one 11-5 season and the rest have all been sub-.500 campaigns.
Much like.. us.
I'd love to have Payton back as an OC but I wouldn't want him running this whole thing here. I suspect someone else will offer him a HC job.
Ownership likes HC's with NYG background. After being burned by a rookie HC, we will want experience. Offensive minded HC is ideal for a franchise QB. I think Payton needs a change of scenery too. Makes sense.
was suspended for a year for his involvement in bounties. Got caught stealing Vicodin. Had a mistress that wasn't quite so hidden as most. And there are a couple of other things that didn't make the news.
If people think he's even a candidate here, I don't know what to tell you.
It's very unusual for them to hire a HC with no history in the organization. They've done it something like twice since WWII. I looked it up and posted it on here once. It's a clear trend, but it's not a hard-and-fast rule.
Sean Payton has a Giants connection, and he fits the current trend toward offensive-minded coaches. So at a glance it makes sense. I think Payton is overrated and will never again match his earlier success as an NFL coach. But he may be a bad idea whose time has come.
I think John Mara was (and maybe still is) expecting Sullivan to be a future Giants HC, but I don't think that's coming anytime soon.
I don't have the energy to do the research right now, but what other offense-minded coaches with a Giants connection are out there? That's probably the list they keep on file.
If McAdoo's fired (something I'm not entirely sold on), Giants need to look first & foremost for a high floor guy to steady this sinking ship...someone with HC experience who at the very least you know won't be in over his head. Payton is clearly that, although beyond that is unclear. And the shadiness factor will be indeed salient for the Giants' ownership.
Gun to my head, the NYG coach in 2018 is Ben McAdoo.
The Maras blackballed Fassel, I don't think they are going to take this guy on with his track record. Plus he's at the top of Jerry's list if Garrett doesn't make the Super Bowl.
Who else would they get? I REALLY didn't think the Giants would fire Macadoo this season, but the DRC thing seems to be like they are at the tipping point. If it doesn't happen at bye week , I think chances are that they do clean house. GM candidates? Coaching candidates. Please no one mention Cowher or Belichick. Its not gonna happen. And as much as I liked Payton and Fox when they were here and for the success they had afterwards, I don't want them. I do not like him but Harbaugh? more importantly, a good GM who knows how to build a front office and scouting department.....
Reeves and Coughlin. Both were successful elsewhere. Reeves didn't work out because he and George Young didn't get along. Can't say I blame Reeves for that, except that he knew the rules coming in.
Coughlin had success obviously because he knew the mistake he made with the Jags was trying to wear two hats.
The other HCs were hired with no NFL HC experience.
I could imagine how the new GM will hire the new HC.
If people think Fassel fucked up with the boat thing, Payton has about 3 skeletons in his closet worse than that.
Plus, he's done nothing without a Brees in his prime.
Since 2011, they have one 11-5 season and the rest have all been sub-.500 campaigns.

Not exactly NYG HC material.

No
Do you mean Gregg Williams?

is a douchebag who had no issue having Greg Robinson on his staff.

Yes. Williams.
Good catch.

Better than an offensive head coach that only has a good defense and a historically dreadful offense, right?
He's Tampa Bay's DC
