...When Wright underwent a laminotomy procedure on his lower-back, his third surgery in less than two years, many fans again wondered (again) if this was the end. But Dr. Andrew Hecht, orthopedic surgeon and chief of spine surgery for the Mount Sinai Health System, said this procedure isn't the end for Wright. It's quite the opposite, in that it gives him a better chance of getting back to playing. Dr. Hecht has not treated Wright but is familiar with Dr. Robert Watkins, Wright's surgeon in Los Angeles, and has performed laminotomy procedures on several athletes, including members of the Jets and Islanders. According to Dr. Hecht, the recovery period is quick and the success rate is high. It will greatly improve Wright's chances of getting back on the field and greatly reduce the pain of spinal stenosis..... |

....He's aware of Wright's disk fusion surgery and his rotator cuff surgery, which will still take 6-9 months to rehab, and said this procedure isn't related, nor should it have any effect on his shoulder. Dr. Hecht explains it as a choice an athlete makes when they have come to the end of the conservative road with the treatment of spinal stenosis. Non-operative procedures are always preferred over going under the knife, but a laminotomy is the result of Wright having exhausted all options when it comes to the management of his spinal stenosis. "We see this quite a bit in athletes and many of them have no symptoms at all, but occasionally you see someone symptomatic, like David Wright," Dr. Hecht said. "Dr. Watkins is a terrific surgeon, just very familiar with the management of this particular problem. He had all of the conservative treatment he was going to have. He had physical therapy extensively, he had spinal injections, he had anti-inflammatories -- a lot of these things typically will get somebody out of pain and back into participation in sport. "But sometimes, despite all of the best efforts of the greatest doctors, somebody doesn't get better with conservative treatment. |
Best of luck to Wright for not giving up. Most players would have called it a career and moved on to something else.
and Kevin Long will be retained as the hitting coach
Some fans on here would say "Wright isn't the kind of player to string his career along collecting a paycheck, if he can't play he'll retire"
I still feel the money is too much for him to walk away.
If you're being serious, it's because he has a guaranteed contract thru 2020. I don't believe any doctor has told him he can't play.

I used to think differently but now I am starting to believe it. He has nothing to prove to anyone he needs to retire. He will have plenty of job opportunities either in broadcasting or in the Mets organization. Even if he is pain free he will not be even a league average player after all the time he has missed and the surgeries performed.
they never win any bidding war. Cheap fcuks
-DeFrancesco was a nice hire for AAA. Surprised how quickly the love for Pedro Lopez dissipated.
It's kind of more about talent and where I can be successful than money.
But maybe I'm being naive and it begins and ends with money.

It's both. Joe Maddon was well aware of the talent the Cubs had on the way when he became the highest paid manager in baseball. Had another team offered him more who knows if "money talks". But the Mets are known for not paying for managers so when you take 1. Worst situation aka less talent and less payroll 2. Unlikely to offer significantly more money than Boston. IF the Sox want him he's almost certainly going there. The caveat would be a team dragging it's feet and a team like the Mets or Tigers acting fast and offering him the job.
I wouldn't worry about them doing that. Outside of Girardi (which obviously isn't happening now) there isn't a "splash" manager to be had. If they think fans are going to get excited about Robin Ventura then they are morons. As I said I really like Cora, I have a few other favorites but at the end of the day it's going to get more ink than it's worth. The roster on the other hand... or the putrid farm system...
I personally like Chip Hale. But would be fine with Ventura or McEwing if it meant Don Cooper would be pitching coach.

Don Cooper isn't going anywhere. He has no "ties" to Ventura. He's been in Chicago for 4 different regimes. The PC will likely be one of Bones, Romanick or Dave Eiland.
Viola is a goner
Also, why not John Farrell?
Also, why not John Farrell?
The Mets reportedly are not interested in Farrell. There may or may not be some off-field stuff we are unaware of (with the Sox the whispers come whether they are true or not). DiSarcina has been a hot name for a while now. I have no real opinion of him either way but I haven't heard the Mets connected to him in any way (doesn't mean they won't be).

I think what I mean is, the constant media obsession with David Wright...should be focusing on guys that are out there or the farm system. His last semi healthy season was 2014. and 2020?! Damn. Didn't realize that. Yikes.
David Wright, while a great player once, needs to retire, but that's easy for me to say I don't have 20 million at stake!
Jon Heyman predicts that Alex Cora will be the Mets next manager.

Heyman also says that the hot 3 names for manager jobs right now are:
Brad Ausmus
Alex Cora
Mickey Callaway
Callaway sure seems like "fun". Can't say I know much about his potential managerial style but it would be a nice roll of the dice . Throw a guy like Wakamatsu with him or someone of that ilk.

I think that only happens if Boston is zeroed in on Ausmus

No way. 100% just guessing. Teams haven't even spoken to most of their candidates yet. Not saying he's "wrong" but he doesn't "know" anything at the moment.
Trust me. A name manager is going to want more than one mil to manage in NY. So you dont have to worry about that.
